Soil nematodes in ungulate grazed and ungrazed forests of the Křivoklátsko Biosphere Reserve -- first results of an ongoing project
Háněl, Ladislav
2009 - English
The effect of ungulate grazing on various woodland ecosystems was studied in oak-hornbeam forest, subxerothermic oak forest, and herb-rich beech forest of the Křivoklátsko Biosphere Reserve. Samples of soil nematodes were taken in May 2006 from plots within enclosures established in 1993 and from plots outside the enclosures. The total abundance of nematodes varied from 248.7 to 790.0 x 10.sup.4./sup. ind.m.sup.-2./sup. and was always greater outside the enclosures. In two cases out of four the difference was statistically significant. Bacterivores were the most numerous nematodes. Their abundance was greater only in one plot outside the enclosure in the oak-hornbeam forest and about one half of the bacterivores were short-living .i.Rhabditis./i.. The abundance of root-fungal feeders (mainly .i.Filenchus./i.) was always greater outside the enclosures than within enclosures. 2009 - English
The aim of our work was to describe the impact of a simulated vegetation zone shift to higher altitudes (i) on the quantity and quality of microarthropods and microbial communities, and (ii) on the decomposition rate of allochthonous leaf litter. In November 2002, 480 litterbags filled with oak or beech leaf litter were placed into spruce and beech forests (950 m a. s. l.) on Kleť Mt. (1083 m; Blanský les Protected Landscape Area, South Bohemia). Three different mesh sizes were used for certain soil biota exclusion: > 2 mm, 0.5 mm and 42 μm. Litterbags were sampled after 2, 4, 6, 12, 24 and 36 months of exposure in the field. Litter pH and moisture were determined in the laboratory immediately after retrieval. Soil microarthropods (Oribatida, Gamasida and Collembola) were extracted using Tullgren funnels. Soil bacteria and micromycetes were isolated using the dilution plate method and specific growth media. Keywords: decomposition; litterbag; microarthropods Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Inoculation of centipedes (Chilopoda) into colliery spoil heaps
Voženílková-Aurová, Klára
2007 - English
Piles of upper soil taken from non-disturbed surroundings of the mine were deposited on the spoil heap area denuded by soil slide to accelerate succession and development of soil fauna on colliery spoil heaps. Development of soil fauna was investigated as from May 1995 till May 1998. Epigeic activity of centipedes was monitored by the method of long term pitfall trapping on the tops of the piles, between piles and on the soil slide in the distance of 50 m from the piles (control plot). The development of the centipede assemblage on the piles was similar to that on the reclaimed spoil heaps. .i.Lamyctes emarginatus./i., known as a pioneer species in young successive stage of the heaps, predominated at the beginning of the experiment. Later on, the numbers of .i.Lamyctes emarginatus./i. decreased because of increasing activity of other centipede species, especially .i.Lithobius microps./i.. .i.Lithobius microps./i.. Po třech letech trvání experimentu bylo společenstvo stonožek tvořeno především druhy .i.Lithobius microps, Lithobius forficatus./i.. Navážka přírodního substrátu formou oddělených hromad neměla na vývoj společenstev stonožek výrazný vliv. Integration of ecological and morphological studies: Micro-distribution of .i.Protaphorura./i.-species (Collembola: Onychiurinae) around a beech stem
Rusek, Josef
2007 - English
The micro-distribution of soil mesofauna was studied around a beech stem in a .i.Luzuleto-Fagetum./i. forest in the Voděradské Bučiny National Nature Reserve, ca 30 km east of Prague, Central Bohemia. The soil type was a cambisol on granite. Fifty soil samples (10 cm.sup.2./sup. surface area and 5 cm deep) were taken in five parallel rows at different distances below and above the stem on a gentle SW slope. Soil arthropods were extracted from each sample in a high-gradient extractor. Soil pH and bulk density were determined for each sample after animal extraction. Three .i.Protaphorura./i.-species were recorded in the samples: .i.P. armata, P. pseudovanderdrifti, Protaphorura./i. sp. nov. The eudominant .i.P. armata./i. reached highest density in samples 50 to 100 cm below and above the beech stem where .i.Protaphorura./i. sp. nov. was present only in a low frequency and at most by a single (exceptionally two) specimen per sample. Ve vzorcích byly zjištěny tři druhy rodu .i.Protaphorura./i.: .i.P. armata, P../i. sp. n. a .i.P. pseudovanderdrifti./i.. Litter attractivity for soil Oribatida in litterbag decomposition experiment
Farská, Jitka
2007 - English
Oribatid mites in litterbags and in soil samples were studied during one year. The litterbags with oak or beech litter were exposed in beech and spruce forest on the Kleť Mt. (Blanský les Protected Landscape Area, Czech Republic). Four habitat-litter combinations were investigated - oak litter in beech forest, oak litter in spruce forest, beech litter in beech forest and beech litter in spruce forest. Soil samples were taken from oak, beech and spruce forests. Species diversity of oribatid mites increased with litter decomposition in the litterbags. Communities of oribatid mites in the litterbags exposed in spruce forest had higher species richness (59 species) than those exposed in beech forest (33 species). Species composition was dependent on the forest type where the litterbags were exposed. The influence of the litter type on the oribatid community was lower. Communities in the litterbags and in the soil samples were compared. V průběhu jednoho roku byli studováni pancířníci v opadových sáčcích a půdních vzorcích. Opadové sáčky s dubovým a bukovým opadem byly umístěny v bukovém a smrkovém lese na Kleti (CHKO Blanský Les, Česká republika). Byly studovány čtyři kombinace les-opad – dubový opad v bukovém lese, dubový opad ve smrkovém lese, bukový opad v bukovém lese, bukový opad ve smrkovém lese. Půdní vzorky byly odebrány z dubového, bukového a smrkového lesa.
