The influence of Colonialism in J.F. Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans

The diploma paper is generally concerned with the influence of colonialism in J. F. Cooper's most popular literary fiction The Last of the Mohicans (1826). The aim of this thesis is to analyse the era of colonialism in the eastern part of contemporary USA, the stereotypes in the portrayal of Indians and interracial relationships as they are depicted in The Last of the Mohicans. The work is divided into three chapters where the theoretical and analytical parts are interconnected.

Syntéza a charakterizace vanadocenových komplexů s dithiokarbamátovými ligandy

Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá prípravou vanadocenových a 1, 1´-dimetylvanadocenových komplexov s ditiokarbamátmi a ich charakterizáciou analytickými a spektroskopickými metódami. Príprava komplexov spočíva v reakcii Cp2VCl2 (1), resp. (MeCp)2VCl2 (1a) s príslušnými ditiokarbamátovými ligandami vo vodnom prostredí. Touto reakčnou cestou boli pripravené komplexy [VCp2(DeDtc)]Cl (7), [V(MeCp)2(DeDtc)]Cl (7a), [VCp2(MorDtc)]Cl (8), [V(MeCp)2(MorDtc)]Cl (8a), [VCp2(PipDtc)]Cl (9), [V(MeCp)2(PipDtc)]Cl (9a), [VCp2(DPhDtc)]Cl (10), [V(MeCp)2(DPhDtc)]Cl (10a), [VCp2(DBuDtc)]BPh4 (11), [V(MeCp)2(DBuDtc)]BPh4 (11a). Priebeh syntézy a izolované produkty boli študované pomocou EPR spektroskopie. U komplexu [V(MeCp)2(MorDtc)]Cl (8a) bola navrhnutá štruktúra potvrdená RTG analýzou.

Performance management has become top on attention of the public-sector management because many services in advanced economies, such as those of the U.K. and Scandinavia and other developing countries, have come under pressure to become more efficient and effective, to reduce their demands on taxpayers, while maintaining the volume and quality of services supplied to the public. To achieve this, they have been subjected to the introduction of various performance management techniques. Content analyses of published and unpublished articles, books, strategic plans of selected public sector, were selected randomly through different sources that contains the application of PMT in local government. It was observed from the analyses that performance management is diversely in management practice in the selected metropolitan boroughs.

This bachelor thesis focuses on the life of Victorian women, gender roles, and stereotypes and shows them on the example of two heroines from books The Lodger by Marie Belloc Lowndes and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. The first part of the paper deals with patriarchal concept and its influence on the everyday life of people. The difference between lives of men and women are presented. It also focuses on gender stereotypes and phenomena of The Angel in the House and The New Woman. The second part of the paper deals with finding these phenomena in the books mentioned above and description of the two female heroines from these books.

This thesis is devoted to sentence forms and functions in discussion forum contributions from the viewpoint of stylistics and pragmatics. The theoretical part discusses different types of clause structures and functions they express. Furthermore, the concept of speech acts focusing on a direct and indirect speech act is described. The analytical part studies the clause structures, functions and speech acts in travel forum contributions.

This bachelor thesis deals with the depiction of the island topos in the novel Web (1980) by John Wyndham. The theoretical part deals with the terms closely related with the thesis and outlines the perception of islands throughout history. The frequent island motives that appear in literature are then used for the analytical part. The core part of this thesis is to analyze the island topos in the aforementioned novel and compare it with the chosen island literature.

The Bachelor Thesis deals with infinitive clauses in the administrative style. The main attention is paid to the identification of the function of the infinitive structures from the syntactic point of view and to the frequency of their use. The theoretical part of the work gives details about the system of non-finite structures, with a preferential treatment to the infinitive clauses. The practical part is based on the analysis of three English texts of the administrative style where the frequency of occurrences of the infinitives in the particular function is discussed.

This bachelor thesis deals with ellipsis and its occurrence in administrative and journalistic style. The paper consists of two parts, the theoretical part and the analysis. In the theoretical part, ellipsis will be defined and classified in terms of recoverability type
of ellipsis and its position within a construction. Moreover, the attention will be also drawn to ellipted sentence elements and their possible combinations. The analytical part subsequently studies the types and frequency of ellipsis identified within the administrative and journalistic style. The task of the analysis is to find out which type of ellipsis is preferred in the particular style.

The Depiction of Irish Community in The Leenane Trilogy by Martin McDonagh

This Bachelor Thesis is focused on the problematics and analysis of three plays by Martin McDonagh, which together form so the called Leenane trilogy. It is The Beauty Queen of Leenane, A skull in Connemara and The Lonesome West. The first theoretical part introduces British drama with focus on the transformation and evolution of Irish drama in the second half of the 20th century with subsequent brief placement and introduction of the author. Last theoretical part presents a popular theatre of the 1990's wave called In-Yer-Face, because it is often connected with the analyzed trilogy. The practical part of this thesis is focused on own analysis of the Leenane trilogy, paying attention to the way the author depicts the life in a typical Irish community, with consideration of the environment and time in which the plays take place. The whole thesis is then finished by a short chapter covering an analysis of a life-performance of the last part of the Leenane trilogy and a short summary of the findings.
