Tests on sustainability of consolidation treatments with CaLoSil nanosuspensions on plaster reference samples
Dunajská, Jana; Tišlová, Renata
2012 - English
The main task of this study was to evaluate novel group of materials based on nanosuspension of calcium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide combined with calcium sulphate which should be used for consolidation of calcerous materials. This research has focused on assessment of consolidation on highly corroded pure lime and gypsum plaster. The evaluation was made through comparison of selected physical, mechanical and microstruce properties. The main task was to assess resistance of consolidated substrates to conditions following the external environment, especially the freeze-thaw cycles, resistance to the salts and humid-air conditions. Keywords: konzervace; průzkum; restaurování; nástěnné malby; kostel sv. Víta v Zahrádce u Ledče nad Sázavou; středověk; research; conservation; restoration; wall painting; middle ages Available in digital repository of UPCE.

Pospíchal, Petr; Ježková, Šárka; Milichovská, Anna
2012 - English
The main purpose of this work is to compare the processes and approaches used in creating neologisms and proper names in the Harry Potter series (in both English and Czech version) and to evaluate their impact on readers as well as the quality of the translation. The theoretical part deals with the definition and general description of the genre of fantasy, presents word formation processes in both languages, reveals the concept of meaning, classifies neologisms and proper names and suggests various methods of translation. The practical part is dedicated to the analysis of neologisms and proper names. Both kinds of words are divided into several groups regarding their meaning. The analysis of neologisms is focused on their origin; in proper names especially the suitability of their translation is examined. The results are discussed at the end of the analysis. Keywords: Harry Potter; neologismy; vlastní jména; tvoření slov; překlad; Harry Potter; neologisms; proper names; word formation; translation Available in digital repository of UPCE.

Native Americans in Sherman Alexie´s Work
Jirsová, Michaela; Bubíková, Šárka; Sampey, Daniel Paul
2012 - English
The aim of this paper is to analyse two important novels Indian Killer and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. These works describe how difficult it has been for Native Americans to assimilate into mainstream American culture in light of the past hardships they have suffered and current difficult living conditions either on or off the reservation. The point of this analysis is to show that Native Americans had to overcome many insurmountable obstacles after European settlers had arrived in Northern America. Despite this backdrop of a painstakingly torrid journey, some Native Americans have successfully adapted into mainstream American culture and became an integral part of a contemporary American society. To provide background for the study of Native Americans living in the U.S., historical-cultural context is explained. Keywords: Američané indiánského původu; rezervace; chudoba; asimilace; Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian; Indian Killer; Alexie, Sherman; identita; urbanizace; Native Americans; reservations; poverty; assimilation; identity; urbanization Available in digital repository of UPCE.

Preparation of scaffold systems for cell cultivation using cryogenic grinding of thin layers of polymeric fibers
Křížková, Barbora; Pouzar, Miloslav; Knotková, Kateřina
2012 - English
The work was focused on cryogenic grinding of electrospun poly-epsolin-caprolactone nano/micro-mesh submerged in liquid media to prepare a microsystem applicable as a scaffold for cell growth. Optimization of the grinding process involved examination of various parameters influencing the quality of the ground product. Characterisation and biocompatibility evaluation provided evidence of the applicability of the system in cell scaffolding. Keywords: Cryogenic grinding; poly-epsilon-caprolactone; nano/micro-mesh; microsystem; characterization; Kryogenní mletí; poly-epsilon-kaprolakton; tenké vrstvy polymerních vláken; mikrosystém; charakterizace Available in digital repository of UPCE.

Public versus Private History in the Works of J.G. Farrell
Soukup, Jaroslav; Vít, Ladislav; Mánek, Bohuslav
2012 - English
The main topic of this work is the post-modern interpretation of history and the issue whether it could be objectively researched and recorded. A special emphasis is placed on defining the concepts of the so-called personal history of an individual and the so-called public history falling under the influence of the social discourse. The work predominantly focuses on the relation of an individual and particular historical event and investigates to what extent an individual can contribute to the overall portrayal of this event or on the contrary, how the society, or rather the system, can influence the individual and through that it can influence the overall perception of history as well. These findings are subsequently applied to the historical novels Troubles and The Siege of Krishnapur by James Gordon Farrell. Keywords: Farrell, J.G.; historie; osobní historie; veřejná historie; historický román; history; private history; public history; historical novel Available in digital repository of UPCE.

Grammatical aspects of the moves in popular scientific reports
Stejskalová, Tereza; Ježková, Šárka; Urbanová, Zuzana
2012 - English
An attempt made in this work is to define the grammatical aspects of the moves in the generic structure of popular scientific reports (PSRs). The basic aspects contained in the theoretical part are move analysis; the process of science popularization, a definition of PSRs and the modified structure of PSRs. In the practical part 35 popularised reports randomly chosen in internet were examined in detail using the modified structure based on the Nwogu's structure (1991). The results obtained from this analysis indicate that PSRs have a schema made up of eight schematic structures called "moves". Each move fulfils a particular purpose and contains the grammatical features typical to it. In this work, a grammatical feature refers to the most frequent grammatical aspect occurring in a concrete move. The occurrence as well as the function of each grammatical feature is always associated with the purpose of a concrete move and sometimes also with the lexical signals of a particular move. Keywords: move analysis; science popularization; generic structure of PSRs; grammatical features; populárně naučné zprávy; gramatické jevy Available in digital repository of UPCE.
