The aim of this bachelor paper is to depict fights and disputes of heterosexual couples in the plays Closer by Patrick Marber and Dogs Barking by Richard Zajdlic. The first part of the thesis focuses on cultural and historical background of in-yer-face theatre that was developed in the 1990s in Britain. The second part of the work represents a portrayal of modern society and its influence on contemporary heterosexual relationships. The third part offers a thorough analysis of the plays Closer and Dogs Barking. The concluding chapter compares the conflicts between the partners in these dramas.

Puritanism and the portrayal of women in The Scarlet Letter

This paper focuses on the changing roles of women in the US society, especially in the Puritan colonies of the 16th century New England, where The Scarlet Letter is set. The theoretical part deals with Puritanism and their beliefs, the roles of women in the Puritanical society that are contrasted with women in Southern and mid-Atlantic colonies; it also briefly mentions the history of the author, Nathaniel Hawthorne and his ancestors, that certainly had an impact on the novel. The second part of the paper analyzes major women characters in The Scarlet Letter and describes them on the background of Puritanical society.

Cílem práce je nalézt efektivní systém jak sběru tak i třídění odpadu z balené pitné vody v Ghaně. Jako koncepční rámec byla zvolena rozšířená zodpovědnost výrobce a eko-efektivnost.
Disertační práce je koncipována tak, že postupuje od rešerše, která poskytuje materiál k pochopení situace vývoje a současné situace v Ghaně a ve světě. Kapitolu doprovází bohatá citace pramenů. Průmysl balení pitné vody je hlavním přispěvatelem plastového odpadu v Ghaně, a proto byl vybrán k výzkumu.
Druhá část se věnuje více tématice plastů a strategií plastových odpadů s procesy, které se odehrávají v rámci sociálně-ekonomické oblasti recyklace v Ghaně.
Třetí část zužuje téma dále na odpad sáčků balené vody a jeho dopady na životní prostředí.
Čtvrtá část analyzuje koncept rozšířené odpovědnosti a jeho realizaci. Studie využívá vybrané analytické rámce pro identifikaci a vyhodnocení výzvy a příležitosti v oblasti účasti výrobce v řízení odpadů. Disertační práce navrhuje akční plán s odpovídajícími politikami tak, aby bylo přesunuto břemeno plastového odpadu na výrobce. Tato studie zahrnuje i multidisciplinární přístup se zahrnutím společenských věd.

This dissertation is organized as follows. Chapter 1 presents an in-depth literature review. Chapter 2 presents the isolation and characterization of chitin and chitosan from Brazilian Atlantic Coast. Chapter 3 focuses on the preparation and characterization of new wound dressing based on hyaluronan and chitosan with using non-woven fabric. Chapter 4 focuses on the conclusion and future work.

Influence of the Iroquois League of Nations on Thomas Paine's Political Thought

This diploma paper is interested in a relatively new academic hypothesis which asserts that the Iroquois League of Nations profoundly influenced the political constructs of the early American Republic. The diploma paper primarily deals with the Anglo-American radical democrat Thomas Paine's political thought as it was expressed in his pamphlet Common Sense (1776) and Agrarian Justice (1797) in the context of this general hypothesis. The aim of this diploma thesis is to demonstrate a possible influence of the Iroquois League of Nations on Paine's political constructs of an early American Republic such as the state of nature, human rights and notion of property.

Určení zatížitelnosti lepených spojů je důležitým parametrem konstrukcí či zařízení při jejich konstrukčním návrhu. V současné době se vyrazně zvyšuje podil lepených spojů při výrobě automobilů či kolejových vozidel. V některých aplikacích je spojování lepením již hlavním způsobem spojování dilů. Pro určení zatížitelnosti lepených spojů je dnes možno využít poznatků lomové mechaniky a chování spojů simulovat s využitím metody konečných prvků. V případě této disertační práce byl použit software ABAQUS. Pro simulace byly uvažovány nelegované konstrukční oceli s různými mechanickými vlastnostmi (rozdílnou mezí pevnosti). Jako lepidla byla použita epoxidová lepidla s rozdílnými mechanickými vlastnostmi - Veropal HE20 a Carboresin. Modely pro řešení zatížitelnosti s využitím metody konečných prvků byly vytvořeny pro rozdílná konstrukční uspořádání lepených spojů. Ověření modelů bylo provedeno srovnáním s reálnými vzorky. Porovnáním síly pro porušení lepených spojů získaných při simulačních výpočtech a při experimentech byla zjištěna odchylka maximalně 18%. Cílem práce bylo vytvoření parametrické studie, na jejímž základě bylo možno získat rovnici pro zatížitelnost lepeného spoje s ohledem na geometrické a materiálové parametry lepených spojů. Pro určeni únosnosti spojů byly navrženy tři parametry spoje L/t, ?Đa/?Đy and F/?Đyt, které se ukázaly, že mají největší vliv na kvalitu lepených spojů.

New concept for metallic protection against corrosion: volatile corrosion inhibitors

Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI) are being extensively used as a powerful tool for corrosion inhibition in metals and their alloys. VCI are active compounds able to eliminate certain causes of corrosion such as acidity etc., forming a protective monomolecular layer on the metal inside a packing.
This thesis describes a new concept of corrosion inhibitors and the conditions for their application. The technology is based on volatile corrosion inhibitors, active substances building upon a new concept of using water as a carrier, either in liquid or in gas phase. The developed products carry a generic name in this work: The VCI-active.
As opposed to the literature and to current practice which recommend avoiding the contact of water with the surface of the metal to be protected, in this thesis water is employed as an active carrier of corrosion inhibitors. It bases on the fact that the majority of volatile corrosion inhibitors distill/evaporate with water steam, thus in liquid as well as in gas phase they form a protective film on the surface of metal (in this thesis, iron) products, which very effectively prevents corrosion.
The thesis presents the principles of this development together with actual cases demonstrating and proving the anti-corrosive effect in metals in laboratory as well as in industrial applications. Thanks to positive results of this new concept, further investigations can now focus on application in industrial scale.

This thesis focuses on the use of evaluative language in newspaper discourse. The theoretical part describes the language of media and its main characteristics. Furthermore, it focuses on the differences between the quality and the popular press. It also describes the functions and characteristics of newspaper discourse, news values and the evaluative language. Additionally, evaluative parameters are classified. In the practical part, findings from the theoretical part are applied to the particular newspaper reports, and the evaluative language is analysed.

The fairy tale “The Adventures of Pinocchio” (1883) by Italian author Carlo Collodi is well known all over the world. However, there is another story for young readers adapted from “The Adventures of Pinocchio” published in 1936, and that is “The Little Gold Key or the Adventures of Burattino” by Russian writer Alexei Tolstoy. In Tolstoyʼs book, the name of Pinocchio is changed to “Burattino”, literally “wooden puppet” in Italian. As Alexei Tolstoy emphasized in “Preface” (1936), his tale was inspired by the story of Pinocchio, but “as the book (“The Adventures of Pinocchio”) got lost”, he told “each time a different story, inventing such adventures that did not exist in the original text.” “The Little Gold Key or the Adventures of Burattino” by Alexei Tolstoy, serves as the main corpus for our study on “child ↔ adult” relationship terminology expressing different positions of “partners”, such as the “inferior ↔ superior” relationship in French and Vietnamese – two entirely opposite language categories. Kinship and social relations are very hierarchical in the Asian peoplesʼ culture and traditions, such as the Vietnamese. Translating relationship expressions or terminology from French, a language which is very limited regarding personal pronouns or substitute pronouns, into Vietnamese is therefore a big challenge for translators.

American Prairie in the Selected Short Stories of Willa Cather

The main purpose of this thesis is to describe the experience of early years of prairie settlement and its depiction in Willa Cather's short stories as well as to analyze the role of women and their feelings about life on the prairie situated in the Great Plains region. In the first part, key terms connected to the thesis are explained, the description of the prairie region is provided and historical circumstances leading to the settlement as well as the experience of the first settlers are explained. The second part focuses on selected short stories of Willa Cather and analyzes her depiction of the prairie environment and weather conditions. Finally, the analysis of Cather's portrayal of the settlers' life and the role of women and their memories is provided.
