Calculations of phase equilibria for polymer blends

Methods of calculations of phase equilibria in polymer blends with specific interactions are analyzed on the basis of the quasichemical Barker theory. Particularly, numerical solution of the equation of the spinodal and subsequent construction of curves of phase coexistence in these systems are performed. Analyzují se metody výpočtů fázových rovnovah ve směsích polymerů se specifickými interakcemi na bázi kvazichemické Barkerovy teorie. Provádí se zejména numerické řešení rovnice spinodály a následná konstrukce křivek fázové koexistence v těchto systémech. This invited introductory lecture concerns the historical perspective of polymeric materials. The role of individualpersonalities and also serendipity in scientific and technological discoveries is discussed. It is shown that the present marked development of commodity polymers is connected with their favourable price/performance ratio. Tato pozvaná úvodní přednáška se zabývá historií polymerních materiálů. Je zdůrazněna role jednotlivých osobností a také náhody při vědeckých a technických objevech. Je ukázáno, že současný pronikavý rozvoj komoditních polymerů souvisí s příznivým poměrem mezi cenou a užitnými vlastnostmi. Kinetics of polymer crystallization

Kinetics of three steps of complex crystallization of poly(N-methyldodecano-12-lactam) were studied by DCS using an Avrami model. Mechanism of respective isothermal steps involves mixed heterogeneous/homogeneous nucleation (primary melt crystallization) or missing nucleation phase (additional crystallization and recrystallization) followed by two-dimensional growth. Kinetika tří dílčích stupňů komplexní krystalizace poly(N-methyldodekanolaktamu) byla studována DSC metodou za použití Avramiho modelu. Jednotlivé stupně izotermní krystalizace probíhají mechanismem dvojrozměrného růstu v kombinaci se směsnou heterogenní/homogenní nukleací (primární krystalizace z taveniny) resp. chybějící fázi nukleace (dodatečná krystalizace a rekrystalizace). The study of crystallization and melting of polymers by temperature modulated DSC

Melting behaviour of poly(N-methyldodekaco lactam) was studied by the temperature modulated DSC. Non-linear behaviour observed is given by melting kinetics and strong temperature dependence of c.sub.p./sub. in the melting region. Pomocí teplotně modulované DSC bylo studováno chování poly(N-methyldodekanolaktamu) v průběhu tání. Pozorované nelineární chování je spojeno s kinetikou tání a silnou teplotní závislostí c.sub.p./sub. v této oblasti.
