2024 - English This bachelor's thesis works with Mary Shelley's Novel Frankenstein and deals with a literary analysis of elements in the Gothic Novel. The aim of this thesis is to present the literary context and circumstances concerning the creation of Mary Shelley's work. The thesis includes a brief characterisation of the beginning of the 19th century in English literature and defines the terms Gothic Novel and Romanticism. The core of the thesis is the analysis of the novel Frankenstein and an interpretation of horror elements of the Gothic Novel. The thesis also concentrates on the description of the surroundings and landscape, which sets the mysterious and ominous atmosphere of the story and eventually presents characteristics of Romanticism. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá románem Mary Shelleyové Frankenstein, práce se věnuje literárněvědné analýze prvků gotického románu. Cílem práce je přiblížit literární kontext a okolnosti vzniku díla Mary Shelleyové. Práce zahrnuje stručnou charakteristiku počátku 19. století v anglické literatuře a definuje pojmy jako gotický román a romantismus. Hlavní náplní práce je analýza románu Frankenstein a interpretace hororových prvků gotického románu. Práce se dále zaměřuje na popis prostředí a krajiny která udává zlověstnou a tajemnou atmosféru příběhu a případně vykazuje znaky romantismu. 2024 - English The Bachelor thesis titled "The English Custody of Mary Queen of Scots" focuses on the life of Mary, Queen of Scots, and her captivity on English territory during the reign of her cousin Elizabeth I. The first part of the thesis is devoted to Mary's life and upbringing in France. The second part draws comparisons between Mary's life and characteristics with those of Elizabeth I. The final section focuses on her captivity. It also describes the conditions of the given places during Mary's stay, her experiences and, finally, her impact on the current state of these locations. Bakalářská práce s názvem "The English Custody of Mary Queen of Scots" se zaměřuje na život Mary, královny Skotské a jejím zajetí na Anglickém území za vlády její sestřenice Alžběty I. První část práce je věnována Maryinu životu a dětství ve Francii. Druhá část porovnává její život a osobnost s Alžbětou I. Poslední část je zaměřena na její pobyt v zajetí. Dále popisuje podmínky daných míst během Maryina pobytu, její zkušenosti a v neposlední řadě její vliv na současnou podobu těchto míst. Symbolism in William Golding's Lord of the Flies

2024 - English The subject of this thesis is W. Golding's novel Lord of the Flies, which was written in the post-war years of the 20th century as an experimental allegorical work set in a fictional dystopian future and is at the same time a relatively realistic depiction of possible events in a closed human community. The thesis starts with an introduction of the author of the novel and his life experience that influenced the work. It will then attempt to place the work in the context of British post-war prose with regard to the genre of dystopia and, in an interpretive analysis, it will examine elements of allegory and literary symbolism, the development of individual characters, and the transformation of specific symbols in the novel. The core of the thesis will be an analysis of the main theme of evil, the dark side of human nature, and the failings of a closed community made up entirely of children (boys). The thesis will conclude by reflecting on possible alternatives to the existence of similar communities in an isolated environment and the possibilities of a positive scenario in the given situation. Předmětem zkoumání práce je román W. Goldinga Pán much, který vznikl v poválečných letech 20. století jako experimentální alegorické dílo odehrávající se ve fiktivní dystopické budoucnosti a je zároveň poměrně reálným obrazem možných událostí v uzavřeném lidském společenství. Práce v úvodu představí autora románu a jeho životní zkušenost, která měla vliv na celkovou podobu díla. Dále se pokusí zařadit dílo do kontextu britské poválečné prózy s ohledem na žánr dystopie a v interpretační analýze bude zkoumat prvky alegorie a literárního symbolismu, vývoj jednotlivých postav a proměnu konkrétních symbolů románu. Jádrem práce bude analýza hlavního tématu zla, temné stránky lidské povahy a selhání uzavřené komunity tvořené výhradně dětmi (chlapci). Práce se v závěru zamyslí nad možnými alternativami existence podobných společenství v izolovaném prostředí a nad případnými možnostmi pozitivního scénáře v dané situaci. Rick Riordan and Dante Alighieri: Mythological Encounters in Contemporary and Renaissance Literature

2024 - English This thesis will examine mythological features in the works of Rick Riordan and Dante Alighieri, with particular reference to the mythological tradition of Greek religion. The theoretical part will present in detail a selection of gods, monsters, and heroes as they are described in classical mythology. A separate chapter will be devoted to the life and works of Rick Riordan and Dante Alighieri. The practical part will analyze specific mythological elements in their works. The final chapter will include a comparative analysis of mythological encounters in the works of both authors. The mythological encounters refer to the characters Percy Jackson and Dante the Pilgrim meet during their travels. Tato diplomová práce se bude zabývat mytologickými prvky v dílech Ricka Riordana a Danta Alighieriho, se zvláštním zřetelem na mytologickou tradici řeckého náboženství. V teoretické části bude podrobně představen výběr bohů, monster a hrdinů, jak jsou popisováni v klasické mytologii. Samostatná kapitola se bude věnovat životu a dílu Ricka Riordana a Danta Alighieriho. V praktické části budou analyzovány konkrétní příklady využití mytologie ve zkoumaných textech. Závěrečná kapitola bude zahrnovat komparativní analýzu mytologických setkání v dílech obou autorů. "1984" and "The Sleeper" - An Analysis of a Dystopian Novel Film Adaptation and its Parody

2024 - English The master´s thesis is concerned with the movie adaptation of Nineteen Eighty-Four, which is based on the novel by George Orwell, and the film "The Sleeper", a parody of the famous novel. The theoretical topics of the theory of movie adaptations, dystopia, the life of George Orwell and Woody Allen, screenplay of "The Sleeper", are described with my own interpretations of elements of Allen´s parody in Orwell´s work. The master´s thesis then analyses The Sleeper parody and offers an interpretation of its features. Analysis of Nineteen Eighty-Four is also done from various perspectives. Magisterská práce se zabývá filmovou adaptací Nineteen Eighty-Four, která byla natočena na základě slavného románu George Orwella, a filmem "The Sleeper" parodií slavného románu. Teoretická východiska jako teorie filmových adaptací, dystopie, životů George Orwella a Woodyho Allena, autora filmu "The Sleeper", jsou popsány v této práci s vlastní interpretací parodie Allenova filmu v díle George Orwella. Tato magisterská práce poté analyzuje film "The Sleeper," a nabízí interpretaci jeho parodie. Analýza adaptace Nineteen Eighty-Four je také vytvořena z různých pohledů. Impact of water deficit stress on leaf quality, predator and herbivore communities in Ficuses

2024 - English This thesis addresses the mechanism by which drought affects tropical plant-insect interactions via leaf traits, focusing on Ficus species. I discovered that both drought intensity and duration indirectly influenced the leaf palatability of Ficus through changes in leaf mechanical traits such as leaf water content and specific leaf area. Furthermore, my research revealed that drought increased leaf herbivory by altering leaf latex outflow, without affecting insect communities. Additionally, I observed that drought enhanced Ficus indirect defense through changes in herbivore-induced plant volatiles. My findings suggest that the impact of drought on Ficus-insect interactions may vary between greenhouse and tropical rainforest environments and may be species-specific. This work underscores the importance and urgency of researching tropical plant-insect interactions under climate change. Rozpoznávání rytmu

2024 - English Rytmus je důležitou součástí hudby. Pro lidi je často snadné slyšet rytmus písně, ale automatická detekce rytmu je komplikovaná. V této práci představíme algoritmus na automatickou detekci rytmu v písních s konstantním tempem. Algoritmus sestává z následujících kroků: detekce počátků not, analýza tempa, detekce dob a detekce rytmu. Pro každý krok představíme různé postupy. Cílem práce je tyto postupy porovnat. Sou- částí práce je balíček napsaný v jazyce Python, který implementuje algoritmus na detekci rytmu a nabízí všechny popsané postupy. Balíček použijeme v experimentech, z jejichž výsledků určíme nejlepší postupy. Rhythm is an important part of music. It is easy for humans to hear or feel the rhythm of a song, but automatic rhythm recognition is a complicated task. In this work, we in- troduce an algorithm for automatic rhythm recognition in songs with constant tempo. The algorithm follows these steps: onset detection, tempo analysis, beat detection, and rhythm detection. We introduce different approaches for each step. The goal is to com- pare the approaches to find the best one. We provide a Python package implementing all of the described approaches and steps. We also conduct experiments to determine the best approach in each step.
