Tomographical investigation of the historical metal bracelets

The work was focused on the method definition for the investigation of historical metal artifacts employing the X-ray tomography. Two metal bracelets made of brass and plated with silver were investigated in the laboratory. The goal was to determine the technology of manufacturing and damages, possible also to visualize the silver layer. Práce byla zaměřena na vytvoření metodiky využívající rentgenové (RTG) tomografické zobrazování pro průzkumy historických artefaktů na bázi kovů. V laboratoři byly touto metodou zkoumány dva kovové náramky z mosazi s postříbřeným povrchem. Průzkum byl proveden za účelem odhalení technologie výroby a případných poškození, případně řešení napojení stříbrné vrstvy.

On May 7, 2019, a survey was carried out in the winter garden of the Otto Petschek Villa, the\nresidence of the Ambassador to the USA. The aim was to clarify the distribution of metal reinforcements\nand other structural elements in the floor of the room. The survey was carried out in\ncooperation with the designer Ing. Zdeněk Rieger. Dne 7. 5. 2019 byl realizován průzkum zimní zahrady ve vile Otto Petschka, residenci velvyslance\nUSA. Cílem bylo objasnit rozložení kovových výztuží a dalších konstrukčních prvků v podlaze místnosti.\nPrůzkum byl proveden ve spolupráci s projektantem Ing. Zdeňkem Riegerem.

Verification of protective properties and usability of NF Protect Wood for the needs of preservation effectiveness. Moisture, vapour permeability, wettability, water absorption, colour stability were evaluated and a test in climatic chamber was performed. Ověření ochranných vlastností a použitelnosti pro potřeby památkové péče nátěrového prostředku NF Protect WOOD. Byla hodnocena navlhavost, paropropustnost, smáčivost, nasákavost, barvostálost a byla provedena klimatická degradační zkouška.

How to repair decayed historical timber constructions using all-wooden lap joints

Most common issue when some moisture or insect- induced decay is present in historical timber structures is the use of lapped scarf joints. This technology keeps the look of the original construction, the decayed part is removed while keeping the healthy wood in the structure. The work presents the guidelines written for the purpose during four years of intensive research activities. The guidelines describe experimental results but also results of numerical and mechanical models. It is intended to be valuable for structural engineers, carpenters and workers of the cultural heritage institutes. The technology is suitable for repair of valuable historic timber structures. Nejčastější opravou při citlivých rekonstrukcích dřevěných konstrukcí je plátový spoj, který dovoluje nahradit pouze část poškozeného prvku protézou a zachovat tak maximální možné množství původního materiálu v konstrukci. Chybějící metodika pro navrhování těchto spojů byla vyvinuta v minulých čtyřech letech v rámci programu NAKI. Výsledky uvedené v metodice jsou založeny na experimentálních výsledcích, ale i na numerických a mechanických modelech. Je vhodná a srozumitelná pro statiky, tesaře i pracovníky památkových ústavů, je vhodnou referencí pro opravy cenných střešních konstrukcí památkových objektů. Obsahuje jak část návrhovou tak část prováděcí (technologickou).

Within the scope of the lecture, methods of structural and technical surveys and their use were presented. The need for this kind of diagnostics, its significance for design projects, and various forms of survey outcomes were discussed, such as identification of tree species, identification of damage type, a detailed evaluation of moisture content in wood, identification of biological damage scope, and evaluation of damage degree. V rámci přednášky byly představeny metody stavebně-technických průzkumů a jejich použití. Diskutována byla potřeba diagnostiky, její význam v projektové činnosti a různá podoba výstupů průzkumů, jakými jsou např. přesná identifikace dřeviny a druhu poškození, podrobné hodnocení obsahu vlhkosti ve dřevě, identifikace rozsahu biologického napadení a posouzení stupně poškození.

Research report. Experimental study of effects of various consolidants on mechanical characteristics of historic lime render

The chemical-physical properties of the historical lime render to be restored were tested and then the tests of consolidation effects using liquid consolidants based on ethyl silicate and nano-calcium dispersion were performed. The highest strengthening effect was achieved by double treatment of the render with product Remmers KSE 300 (based on ethyl silicate). Due to the required hydrophilic properties of the render after consolidation, the final treatment of the render with a nanolime suspension, eg CaLosil IP 15 or CaLoSiL E 25, was recommended. Byly zjištěny chemicko-fyzikální vlastnosti historické vápenné omítky vyžadující zpevnění a provedeny zkoušky zpevnění ethylsilikátem a nanovápennou disperzí. Nejvyššího zpevnění bylo dosaženo dvojnásobným ošetřením omítky prostředkem na bázi ethylsilikátu s koncentrací SiO2 300 g/l. Z důvodu požadovaných hydrofilních vlastností omítky bylo doporučeno finální ošetření omítky nanovápenným prostředkem, např. CaLosil IP 15 nebo CaLoSiL E 25.
