Currently, great emphasis is placed on air quality and the presence of pollutants. Attention is therefore focused on new gas-sensing materials enabling detection even at low (up to room) temperatures with sufficient response and short reaction time. Here, we investigate the suitability of H-NCD films and their heterostructures with MoS2, GO, rGO, SH-GO, or Au NPs for gas sensing applications. Electrical properties are measured for oxidizing gas NO2, reducing gas NH3, and chemical vapor of ethanol, and at temperatures varied from room temperature to 125 °C. In contrast to the individual forms of employed materials with limited response to the exposed gases, the HNCD heterostructures revealed better sensing properties. In particular, the Au NPs/H-NCD heterostructures revealed a higher response at 125 °C in contrast to H-NCD, MoS2/H-NCD had quite good response even at room temperature and GO/H-NCD revealed high sensitivity to chemical vapor, which further improved for the SH-GO/HNCD. Klíčová slova: gas sensors; nanocrystalline diamond; heterostructures; air quality monitoring Dokument je dostupný na externích webových stránkách.

Due to the high surface to volume ratio, the particles’ surface properties modification defines its properties in general, which is crucial for their use. From this point of view, plasma processing or high temperature annealing can be considered as the universal techniques for efficient modification of materials in the form of powder. In this study, the silicon dioxide microparticles have been treated in a hydrogen, oxygen or vacuum by low temperature plasma or annealing. The change of SiO2 microparticles properties was investigated by photoluminescence spectroscopy at room and low temperature. High temperature annealing in hydrogen induced under UV excitation photoluminescence in the near UV and visible light indicating the change of defect states on the surface of the microparticles. We believe that observed findings clearly demonstrate useful method for analysis of SiO2 microparticles surface modification attractive also for fundamental research. Development and measurement of gas sensors for room temperature applications
Kočí, Michal
2022 - anglický
Gas sensing properties of a nanocrystalline diamond with a hydrogen-terminated surface (H-terminated NCD) and a molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) are investigated as conductivity sensors with built-in interdigital metal electrode structures. The H-terminated NCD was prepared by plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD), and the MoS2 by a carbide-free one-zone sulfurization method. The sensor's responses were measured for oxidizing (NO2) and reducing (NH3) gases by the same equipment and setup. The parameters of the tested sensors are compared and critically evaluated. Advantageously, the MoS2/H-terminated NCD heterostructure enhances the gas sensing response at room temperature compared to the H-terminated NCD and MoS2 layers. Klíčová slova: gas sensor; nanocrystalline diamond (NCD); transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) Dokument je dostupný na externích webových stránkách.

2021 - anglický
The surface energies of 8 crystallographic planes and effects of nitrogen vacancies on the lattice parameter in rock salt-like structure of TiN (σ-TiN) were studied using ab-initio method of density functional theory (DFT) with the generalized gradient approximation functional (GGA) as parametrized by Perdex, Burke and Ernzerhof (PBE). The linear decrease of lattice parameter with the increasing presence of nitrogen vacancies up to ca. 80% was observed.\n Klíčová slova: titanium nitride; TiNx; ab initio simulation; density functional theory; DFT; vacancies; lattice parameter; surface energy Dokument je dostupný na externích webových stránkách.

We employed a custom-built inductively coupled plasma (ICP) 13.56 MHz reactor with up to 300 W RF discharge power. Hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorods were exposed to the ICP plasma with a mixture of hydrogen and argon for up to 30 min, followed in-situ by plasma oxidation. Plasma properties were monitored by optical emission spectroscopy (OES) and by measuring the self-bias potential of the stainless steel sample holder separated from the ground by a blocking capacitor. The exciton-related UV photoluminescence of ZnO nanorods and optical absorption increases significantly after the plasma treatment. We attribute it to the complex changes of ZnO surface electronic states that also give rise to its black color visually. Klíčová slova: ZnO; ICP; photoluminescence Dokument je dostupný na externích webových stránkách.

2021 - anglický
Hydrothermally grown ZnO-based structures were heavily doped with Mo (various doping levels from 2 to 25%). It has been found that Mo strongly affects the ZnO structure and morphology rather resulting in the complex, mixed zinc and molybdenum oxides creation. Moreover, the material phases transformation upon the increased Mo content was observed. ZnO material phase was observed only at low Mo doping level (2 and 5%). This correlated very well to the changes in the luminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance signals. Klíčová slova: ZnO; Mo doping; material phase transformation; luminescence; electron paramagnetic resonance Dokument je dostupný na externích webových stránkách.

2021 - anglický
Deposition of nanodiamonds is found to be able to adjust the work function of transparent conductive oxides that are commonly used in photovoltaics. It also turned out that the change is dependent on the nanodiamond surface termination and that it is not stable in time. 2021 - anglický
This work presents use of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) for multipurpose coating of oxidized high-pressure high-temperature and detonation nanodiamonds. This simple way of nanodiamonds surface modification aims to improve their colloidal stability in biological environments and reduce their proneness to agglomeration. PVP immobilized on nanodiamond surface also provides for nanodiamond-supported AgNPs preparation by in situ synthesis using AgNO3 as a metallic nanoparticles precursor. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and UV-vis spectroscopy were used for evaluation of nanoparticles size distribution and dispersibility in water and after exposition of nanoparticles in saline solution. Images acquired by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscope validate the possibility of binding ~ 10 nm AgNPs to nanodiamonds surface. Compression of ecaped titanium micro-pillars for two principal orientations
Vokoun, David; Maňák, Jan; Tesař, Karel; Habr, Stanislav
2020 - anglický
The thermomechanical processing by equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) is used for certain metals and alloys in order to make their structure fine and to increase material strength. In the previous study done at our institute, grade 2 titanium was successfully processed using four consecutive route A passes via a 90° ECAP die with high backpressure at room temperature. Orientation dependence of compressive and tensile loading of ECAPed titanium samples was demonstrated at macro-scale. However, scarce attention has been paid so far to the mechanical behavior of ECAPed titanium samples at micro-scale. In the present study, compression experiments on titanium micro-pillars, fabricated using focused ion beam, are carried out for two main directions in respect to preceding ECAP pressing (insert and extrusion directions). The purpose of this study is to discuss the orientation dependence of mechanical response during compression of the as-ECAPed titanium micro-pillars. The easy and fast detection of drug content and concentration levels is demanded in biological research as well as in clinical practice. Here we study on microscopic level how nanodiamonds and gold nanoparticles interact with a multifunctional drug molecule directly on a biosensor surface. The sensors are made of interdigitated Au electrodes coated by 5 nm hydrogenated or oxidized nanodiamonds and further combined with Au colloidal nanoparticles (size 20 nm) providing nanoscale composite (spacing 100 nm). Atomic force microscopy is employed to measure local tip-surface adhesion forces and surface topography. AFM adhesion maps show that the drug binds to all types of nanoparticles and the adhesion is also significantly influenced by the substrates on which the nanoparticles are deposited. Role of local AFM tip interaction with nanostructured surface is also discussed.\n Klíčová slova: alzheimer drugs; biosensors; nanodiamonds; nanoparticles Dokument je dostupný na externích webových stránkách.
