SBRA Method and serviceability of structures

This paper is intended to summarize application of the fully probabilistic Simulation-Based Reliability Assessment method (SBRA) on serviceability assessment in scope of proposed integrated system (SBRA guideline) of reliability assessment of structures. Also, the aim of this paper is to contribute to ongoing debate about probabilistic design and assessment of structures, and to its results integration into future fully probabilistic generation of design codes. Příspěvek je zaměřen na souhrn aplikací plně pravděpodobnostní metody SBRA založené na simulační technice z hlediska posudku použitelnosti . Cílem příspěvku je přispět k diskuzi pravděpodobnostního posuzování konstrukcí a k integrovanému navrhování budoucnosti.

This paper is reporting about a new teaching subject -Probabilistic Calculations in Mechanics- which is provided by VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Mechanics of Materials. This subject of teaching is mainly focused on the stochastic mechanics, Simulation-Based Reliability Assessment Method and probabilistic reliability of structures. Příspěvek uvádí nový kurs Pravděpodobnostní výpočty v mechanice, který nabízí VŠB-TU Ostrava, strojní fakulta, katedra pružnosti a pevnosti. Předmětem výuky bude především stochastický přístup a výpočty založené na pravděpodobnostním výpočtu a simulační technice SBRA

Impact of chemical corrosion on mechanical characteristics of wood

The contribution is dedicated to the problem of chemical corrosion of surface layers of wood in buildings, caused by reaction of chemical substances contained in formerly used chemical anti-fire agents, applied by spraying or coating on wooden construction elements. Findings discovered during survey of buildings and laboratory methods (mechanical tests) of testing of impact of damage on mechanical characteristics of wood and wooden construction elements are presented in the poster. Příspěvek se zabývá problémem chemické koroze povrchových vrstev dřeva ve stavebních objektech, vyvolané reakcemi chemických látek, obsažených v dříve používaných chemických protipožárních prostředcích, aplikovaných postřikem nebo nátěrem na konstrukční dřevěné prvky. V posteru jsou prezentovány poznatky zjištěné při průzkumu staveb a laboratorní metody (mechanické zkoušky) testování vlivu poškození na mechanické vlastnosti dřeva a dřevěných konstrukčních prvků.

The article presents the results of a research focused on determination of effect of chemical degradation of wooden construction elements on their mechanical characteristics. The damage of wood was caused by chemical reactions of basic substances of wood mass with compounds contained in anti-fire coatings. This kind of corrosion is called surface defibering of wood. Jednoduché, přírodní nátěry k ochraně konstrukčního dřeva před ohněm a požáry byly užívány již ve starověku. Jejich stopy nacházíme na povrchu některých historických konstrukcí (Drdácký et al. 2005). Rozvoj chemického průmyslu v 19. a 20. století umožnil vývoj a pozdější intenzivní aplikaci nových retardérů hoření na dřevěné prvky běžných stavebních konstrukcí.

When repairing historic buildings, it is possible to consider designing a new mortar as a copy of the historic one. The paper deals with this approach from different viewpoints. Při opravách historických staveb lze uvažovat o použití malty či omítky, která má své složení založeno na dochovaných historických materiálech. Příspěvek se teoreticky zabývá tímto přístupem z různých úhlů pohledu.

The first condition for a reliable structure is a well-judged design, correctly and carefully calculated, and based on authentic input values. So fare we were used to take these values from the Codes and in the case that they can very accidentally, this variability can be respected by means of a coefficient. A more realistic approach is to take into account directly the random nature of the property in question, and to describe it in probabilistic terms (by a histogram). This can be done with the use of SBRA (Simulation Based Reliability Assessment) method. Here some considerations are shown, how the actual Czech Codes should be reorganized for probabilistic design, in the case of dynamic civil engineering problems. In this paper the problems of loading are treated; the problems of structural response and some special examples are shown in the full text on CD. Za výchozí předpoklad návrhu spolehlivé konstrukce je možno považovat dobře navržený postup, správný a pečlivě provedený výpočet založený na odpovídajících vstupních údajích. Příspěvek je zaměřen na aplikaci reálného přístupu uvažujícího náhodné vlastnosti ovlivňujících pravděpodobnostní výpočet. Takový postup nabízí metoda SBRA. Příspěvek naznačuje jak české normy mohou být upraveny pro pravděpodobnostní navrhování při řešení úloh ve stavebním inženýrství.

The author thinks in this paper over the useful contents of design codes for buildings and civil engineering structures. They of course should help, but not trouble the designer, but, implicitly, they should guarantee the safety, serviceability and durability of the work. And they must at the same time reflect the actual state of the society, of its exigencies and economical resources, of the development of technology and science. The symptom of our times seems to be the uncertainty – one should ask about its incidence on our design-praxis. Autor se v článku zamýšlí nad užitečností obsahu norem pro navrhování staveb a inženýrských konstrukcí. Obecně by měly projektantovi pomáhat a ne mu ztěžovat práci, a měly by být zárukou bezpečnosti, použitelnosti a trvanlivosti díla. Zároveň musejí respektovat současný stav společnosti, jejích potřeb a ekonomických možností, a stav vývoje vědy a technologie. Zdá se, že příznakem naší doby je neurčitost, a je třeba se ptát po jejím dopadu na projekční praxi.

Impacts on collapse behaviour of soils

Phenomenon of collapsible soils is a broadly investigated problem of the soil behaviour. A review of the collapse potential of different soils – sand and loess is presented. Various dry unit weights and degrees of saturation are interpreted in terms of the collapse index dependent on applied vertical stress during sample flooding. Fenomén nenasycených prosedavých zemin je široce zkoumaným problémem. Výsledky rešeršní studie a vlastních experimentů byly interpretovány jako jako stupeň prosedavosti v závislosti na vertikálním napětí při zalití pro různé objemové hmotnosti suché zeminy a různé stupně nasycení pro jemnozrnné a hrubozrnné zeminy.

Wood-decay fungi on wooden elements of various roofs constructions

From a large group of wood-damaging fungi, only a few species participate on degradation of wood built in various building constructions. In spite of that, these species often cause significant damage by their activity. Z velké skupiny dřevokazných hub do dřevěných stavebních konstrukcí proniká jen několik málo druhů, přesto však způsobují na zabudovaném dřevě značné škody. Přispěvek prezentuje zkušenosti získané při průzkumech krovových konstrukcí různých staveb v uplynulých deseti letech. Popisuje riziková místa staveb s častým výskytem dřevokazných hub, podmínky růstu dřevokazných hub, způsoby šíření poškození a obvyklý rozsah škod.
