The summary research report provides an evaluation of the procedure and results of the project SS01010257 - Development of tools to minimise the risks of air contamination by respirable asbestos fibres released from the rock environment by human activities (AZROCK). The solved project had two main objectives. The first one was the creation of two methodical instructions, both for the rock and aggregate sampling with a possible naturally occurring asbestos content and for the subsequent analysis of the presence of asbestos fibers in the samples taken. Furthermore, the project set itself the goal of creating: (1) a specialized map of the risk of asbestos occurrence in the rock environment in the Czech Republic and (2) a web knowledge portal of asbestos. A substantial part of the project solution was based on the collection of samples of rocks and aggregates at almost a hundred selected sites throughout the Czech Republic and their subsequent evaluation using a selected and verified set of analytical methods. Similar information on the occurrence of asbestos in the rock environment of the Czech Republic has not yet been available to interested professionals and the non-specialist public. Souhrnná výzkumná zpráva přináší zhodnocení postupu a výsledků projektu SS01010257 - Vývoj nástrojů pro minimalizaci rizika kontaminace ovzduší respirabilními azbestovými vlákny uvolňovanými lidskou činností z horninového prostředí (AZROCK). Podobné informace o výskytu azbestu v horninovém prostředí České republiky nebyly dosud zájemcům z řad odborné i laické veřejnosti k dispozici. 2023 - English
Geoconservation is an action of conserving and enhancing geological, geomorphological, hydrological and soil features and processes. Particular geoconservation measures are very often applied on the site-level to protect important geodiversity sites. Nevertheless, despite established legal protection and related geoconservation activities, threats to geodiversity sites related to the multiple use and human society demands can arise and reaching a compromise can be difficult. In this contribution, a two-level threat assessment is applied and discussed. The first level of threat assessment is based on the already used criteria within geosite/geomorphosite concept. The second level of threat assessment is represented by Risk Assessment Matrix, which may be considered a useful tool providing a complex view on the threats to geodiversity sites. The methods are applied on two different sites and their advantages and limits are discussed. Based on the assessment, specific management proposals may be implemented in order to balance conservation needs and demands resulting from human activities related to the sites. Keywords: geoconservation; risk assessment matrix; degradation risk; geosites; geomorphosites Fulltext is available at external website.

Evaluation of the risks of the terrain surface influencing from the point of view of geomechanical changes of the rock massif due to the flooding of the mining environment of the Ostrava and Petřvald sub-basins of the OKR by mine water - Interim report IV
Kajzar, Vlastimil
2023 - Czech
Attenuation of the remaining, still active mines of OKD company will mean the end of the primary reason for pumping mine water from mines, which is to ensure the safety of work and operation underground. At the same time, this eliminates the need to maintain the currently determined level of mine water in the already attenuated part of the Ostrava-Karviná district (OKR), i.e. in the Ostrava (ODP) and Petřvald (PDP) parts of the OKR, which are now ensured by the Jeremenko (ODP) and Žofie (PDP) water shafts. After the end of all activities in the OKR underground, the process of flooding of the abandoned mine could be started. The aim of this work is to determine the possible risks caused by geomechanical and rheological changes in the rock massif disturbed by mining activity and, above all, the associated possible risks of affecting the earth's surface. Útlum zbylých, dosud činných dolů OKD, a.s. bude znamenat zánik primárního důvodu čerpání důlních vod z dolů, kterým je zajištění bezpečnosti práce a provozu v podzemí. Cílem této práce je stanovit možná rizika způsobená geomechanickými a reologickými změnami v horninovém masívu, porušeném hornickou činností a především s tím spojená možná rizika ovlivnění zemského povrchu. Keywords: risks of the terrain surface influencing; geomechanical changes; flooding of the mining environment Available on request at various institutes of the ASCR

Determination of the initial stress tensor from deformation of underground opening-theoretical background and applications
Malík, Josef; Kolcun, Alexej
2023 - English
In this paper a method for the detection of initial stress tensor is proposed. The method is based on measuring distances between some pairs of points located on the wall of underground opening in the excavation process. This methods is based on the solution of eighteen auxiliary problems in the theory of elasticity with force boundary conditions. The optimal location of the pairs of points on the wall of underground work is studied. The pairs must be located so that the condition number of a certain matrix has the minimal value, which guarantees a reliable estimation of initial stress tensor. Keywords: initial stress tensor; first boundary value problem of the theory of elasticity; condition number of matrices Fulltext is available at external website.

The content of the presented methodological procedure is guidance on a suitable and reliable method of laboratory analysis of rocks and crushed aggregate for the presence of naturally occurring asbestos. The created methodology follows on from the Methodological guide for sampling to determine the presence of asbestos fibers in rocks, with which it is closely linked. Together, they represent the first methodological documents dealing with the issue of asbestos in rocks and aggregates within the Czech Republic. Reduced basis solver for stochastic Galerkin formulation of Darcy flow with uncertain material parameters
Béreš, Michal
2023 - English
In this contribution, we present a solution to the stochastic Galerkin (SG) matrix equations coming from the Darcy flow problem with uncertain material coefficients in the separable form. The SG system of equations is kept in the compressed tensor form and its solution is a very challenging task. Here, we present the reduced basis (RB) method as a solver which looks for a low-rank representation of the solution. The construction of the RB consists of iterative expanding of the basis using Monte Carlo sampling. We discuss the setting of the sampling procedure and an efficient solution of multiple similar systems emerging during the sampling procedure using deflation. We conclude with a demonstration of the use of SG solution for forward uncertainty quantification. Keywords: stochastic Galerkin method; reduced basis method; Monte Carlo method; deflated conjugate gradient method Fulltext is available at external website.

Numerical realization of the Bayesian inversion accelerated using surrogate models
Bérešová, Simona
2023 - English
The Bayesian inversion is a natural approach to the solution of inverse problems based on uncertain observed data. The result of such an inverse problem is the posterior distribution of unknown parameters. This paper deals with the numerical realization of the Bayesian inversion focusing on problems governed by computationally expensive forward models such as numerical solutions of partial differential equations. Samples from the posterior distribution are generated using the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods accelerated with surrogate models. A surrogate model is understood as an approximation of the forward model which should be computationally much cheaper. The target distribution is not fully replaced by its approximation. Therefore, samples from the exact posterior distribution are provided. In addition, non-intrusive surrogate models can be updated during the sampling process resulting in an adaptive MCMC method. The use of the surrogate models significantly reduces the number of evaluations of the forward model needed for a reliable description of the posterior distribution. Described sampling procedures are implemented in the form of a Python package. Keywords: Bayesian inversion; delayed-acceptance Metropolis-Hastings; Markov chain Monte Carlo; surrogate model Fulltext is available at external website.

2022 - English
For designing precisely the reinforcement of mine gate and reinforcing underground structures in general, knowing stress and deformation states in the rock massive in the immediate vicinity of these mine works as precisely as possible is absolutely decisive. In order to verify the rock mass stress state and its changes induced by longwall mining, the monitoring of rock mass stress changing in connection with the mine out of the coal seam No. 501, longwall face No. II/501/C in the Mine Staszic-Wujek, Poland, was suggested. The aim of the contractual research was the realisation and interpretation of the rock stress state monitoring using the CCBO (Compact Conical ended Borehole Overcoring method) and CCBM (Compact Conical ended Borehole Monitoring method) probes in the forefield of mentioned longwall face within geotechnical station. To verify stress monitoring, the survey of the state of the longwall gate was carried out using a pulse 3D scanner. The purpose was to capture deformation changes ahead of the advancing longwall face, specifically, at five stages in the ± 20 m section on each side from the installed geotechnical station. Current state of geophysical research and surveys in the Czech Republic
Kaláb, Zdeněk
2022 - Czech
The basic research of the Earth's physical fields in the Czech Republic is solved by the research infrastructure CzechGeo/EPOS, which is a comprehensive system for observing geophysical fields operated by geoscience institutions in the Czech Republic. CzechGeo/EPOS is distributed multilayer research infrastructure based on acquisition and distribution of data from geophysical monitoring networks. In the area of exploratory geophysical works, the survey of potential sites for the deep repository of nuclear waste is probably the biggest topic. This is not only a survey of potential sites, but also activities at the Bukov underground laboratory. One of the major challenges facing applied geophysics in the near future is to participate in surveys for the high-speed railway line. Applications of geophysical methods are increasingly penetrating also other fields.\n Základní výzkum fyzikálních polí Země je v ČR řešen výzkumnou infrastrukturou CzechGeo/EPOS, což je ucelený systém pozorování geofyzikálních polí provozovaný geovědními institucemi České republiky. Aplikace geofyzikálních metod ale pronikají stále více do dalších oborů.\n\n Keywords: geophysics; CzechGeo/EPOS; deep repository of nuclear waste; Bukov Underground Research Facility; geophysical survey Available on request at various institutes of the ASCR
