Goldinga Pán much, který vznikl v poválečných letech 20. století jako experimentální alegorické dílo odehrávající se ve fiktivní dystopické budoucnosti a je zároveň poměrně reálným obrazem možných událostí v uzavřeném lidském společenství. Práce v úvodu představí autora románu a jeho životní zkušenost, která měla vliv na celkovou podobu díla. Dále se pokusí zařadit dílo do kontextu britské poválečné prózy s ohledem na žánr dystopie a v interpretační analýze bude zkoumat prvky alegorie a literárního symbolismu, vývoj jednotlivých postav a proměnu konkrétních symbolů románu. Jádrem práce bude analýza hlavního tématu zla, temné stránky lidské povahy a selhání uzavřené komunity tvořené výhradně dětmi (chlapci). Práce se v závěru zamyslí nad možnými alternativami existence podobných společenství v izolovaném prostředí a nad případnými možnostmi pozitivního scénáře v dané situaci. The subject of this thesis is W. Golding's novel Lord of the Flies, which was written in the post-war years of the 20th century as an experimental allegorical work set in a fictional dystopian future and is at the same time a relatively realistic depiction of possible events in a closed human community. The thesis starts with an introduction of the author of the novel and his life experience that influenced the work. It will then attempt to place the work in the context of British post-war prose with regard to the genre of dystopia and, in an interpretive analysis, it will examine elements of allegory and literary symbolism, the development of individual characters, and the transformation of specific symbols in the novel. The core of the thesis will be an analysis of the main theme of evil, the dark side of human nature, and the failings of a closed community made up entirely of children (boys). The thesis will conclude by reflecting on possible alternatives to the existence of similar communities in an isolated environment and the possibilities of a positive scenario in the given situation. Mechanism of retrograde transport in contact-dependent inhibition (CDI) toxins through the bacterial translocon

Due to the constant pressure, strategies to allow competition and communication have been developed within bacterial communities. In this respect, Contact Dependent Growth Inhibition (CDI) is often of relevance. The aim was to elucidate a newly found pathway of transport of the CDI toxins across the inner bacterial membrane via Sec translocon. Since all proteins are transported via Sec translocon in an unfolded state, and there is no obvious mechanism which would drive or facilitate this transport in the retrograde fashion, the hypothesis that the effector domain of CDI toxins evolved an anisotropic energy landscape of mechanical unfolding was constructed. That would allow the toxin to be mechanically more labile in the direction of translocation and mechanically stable in the orthogonal directions. This anisotropy would permit efficient translocation and overall thermodynamic stability at the same time. The unfolding landscape was assessed by a molecular dynamics simulation combined with umbrella sampling. Developed methodology, complemented with a rational design of "circular permutants", helped to estimate the forces required to unfold the toxins under different geometries. The portrayal of class in Charles Dickens' works

2023 - anglický Bohatství a společenské postavení mělo ve viktoriánské Anglii velký vliv na vnímání a sudbu člověka takřka ve všech směrech. Charles Dickens v tomto období vyrůstal jako člen právě té nižší sorty lidí, na kterou toto pojetí společnosti mělo ten největší dopad. Kvůli dluhům svého otce žil dlouhou dobu spolu s rodinou ve vězení pro dlužníky, a kvůli matce se mu nedostávalo důkladného vzdělání. Ve své podstatě jim křivdu nikdy nedokázal odpustit, a to, spolu s dalšími faktory, se také odráží v jeho pozdější tvorbě. Cílem mé bakalářské práce je studium zobrazování tříd v Dickensových dílech v kontextu s jeho životem a dobou, jejíž názory tak ovlivnily jeho literární příběhy. Za pomocí postav z jeho knih, které zastupují jednotlivé sociální skupiny, se pokusím vykreslit Charlesovo vnímání, pojetí a následné zakomponování témat společenské nerovnosti do jeho tvorby. Wealth and social status in Victorian England had a great influence on perceiving a person in nearly all directions. Charles Dickens grew up in this time period as a member of the lower class of people on which this perception of society had a huge impact. Thanks to his father's debts, he lived, together with his family, for quite a long time in a debtor's prison, and he lacked a sufficient amount of education because of his mother. In essence, he was never able to forgive them, which got portrayed, as well as many other factors, in his later works. The aim of my bachelor's degree thesis is a study of the depiction of social classes in Dickens' writings in the context of his life and period, whose opinions influenced his literary stories. With the help of the characters from his books, who represent each social class, I will try to picture Charles' conception and inclusion of the topics of social inequality in his work. V první části bakalářská práce krátce představí autorův život nejen jako kritika, ale také jako esejisty a novináře, začátek jeho literární kariéry a proces psaní zmíněných děl. Prostřední část práce se bude věnovat utopii a dystopii: její definici, historii a vývoji vliteratuře jako fiktivním žánru aideologii totalitarismu. Vposlední, klíčové části bakalářské práce přistoupíme přímo k analýze děl Farma zvířat a 1984 a budeme zkoumat jejich žánrové zařazení. The purpose of the bachelor's thesis Genre analysis of anti-utopia in George Orwell's works is to analyse the anti-utopian works Animal Farm (1945) and 1984 (Nineteen Eighty-Four, 1949) written by British writer George Orwell. The first part of this bachelor thesis will shortly introduce the author's life not only as a critic but also as an essayist and journalist, the start of his literary career, and the process of writing the literary works mentioned earlier. The middle part of the thesis is dedicated to utopia and dystopia: its definition, history, and its evolution in literature as a fiction genre and ideology in totalitarianism. In the last, crucial part of the bachelor's thesis, we will proceed to the analysis of the works Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four and we will be examining their genre classification. Feminism in The Scarlet Letter and comparing Hester Prynne with Margaret Fuller's writings in Woman in the Nineteenth Century

2023 - anglický Tato práce zkoumá otázku feminismu jako jednoho z přístupů k postavě Hester Prynne z románu Šarlatové písmeno od Nathaniela Hawthorna. Tento román je považován za feministický nejen kvůli tomu, jak je v něm Hester vykreslena, ale také kvůli faktu, že kniha byla napsána v době vzrůstu feministického hnutí a také kvůli tomu, že měl Hawthorne blízko k Margaret Fullerové, která byla jednou z předních feministek své doby. Na základě srovnání poznámek z knihy Fullerové Žena v Devatenáctém Století a diskuze o dalších přístupech k románu tato práce ukazuje, že Hester Prynne, ačkoli vykazuje známky feminismu, není ani tak moc feministkou jako spíše transcendentalistkou. Toto je zřejmé, když si čtenář uvědomí, že Hester nezměnila pohled společnosti na nezávislé ženy, které usilují o své cíle, ale že se snaží žít sama pro sebe v souladu s Bohem a přírodou. This thesis explores the issue of Feminism as one of the approaches to Hester Prynne from Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel The Scarlet Letter. The novel is considered feminist not only because of how Hester is portrayed in the book, but also because it was written during the rise of the feminist movement and also because Hawthorne was close to Margaret Fuller who was one of the leading feminists of her day. Having compared notes from Fuller's Woman in the Nineteenth Century and having discussed other approaches to the novel, this paper shows that Hester Prynne, although she does show signs of it, is not as much a feminist rather than a transcendentalist. This judgment is evident when the reader realizes Hester did not change how society views independent women pursuing their goals, but rather trying to live for herself in harmony with God and nature. Oscillation of plural forms in English nouns

2023 - anglický Některá anglická podstatná jména přejatá z jiných jazyků si zachovávají cizí (nepravidelný) tvar množného čísla, přičemž je možný i tvar určitý. Gramatické příručky tuto možnou oscilaci v tvoření množného čísla pouze konstatují, ale neuvádějí, která forma v současném jazyce převažuje, ani do jaké míry je forma množného čísla závislá na kontextu a žánru řeči. Tato práce tedy bude analyzovat užívání tvarů množného čísla v současném jazyce u vybraných podstatných jmen pomocí korpusových nástrojů a vyhodnotí výsledné tendence. Součástí práce bude rešerše toho, jak toto téma popisují gramatické příručky, a na základě toho tato práce vymezí vzorek podstatných jmen pro následnou analýzu. Mou vůlí bude získat jednotlivá podstatná jména ze vzorku ze synchronního anglického korpusu a určit četnosti jednotlivých tvarů v závislosti na žánru pramene. Výsledné tendence pak vyhodnotím. Some English nouns borrowed from other languages retain the foreign (irregular) plural form, while a definite one is possible. Grammar books merely note this possible oscillation in plural formation but do not indicate which form prevails in the present language or to what extent the plural form depends on the context and genre of speech. Thus, this thesis will analyze the use of plural forms in contemporary language for selected nouns using corpus tools and evaluate the resulting tendencies. The thesis will include a search for how grammar handbooks describe the topic, and, on this basis, this thesis will define a sample of nouns for subsequent analysis. My will is to retrieve individual nouns from the sample from a synchronic English corpus and determine the frequencies of each form, depending on the genre of the source. I will then evaluate the resulting tendencies. Na základě proniknutí do hlavních témat a relevantních otázek souvisejících s tímto tématem studie představuje nejen různorodou škálu perspektiv přítomných v odborných pracích, ale také roli genderové korektnosti na rovnost v jazyce. Práce vymezuje klíčové pojmy genderové korektnosti a její význam pro moderní společnost. Po srovnání perspektiv různých publikací představuje kritický pohled na současný stav literatury o genderové korektnosti. Představuje tak nejen současný pohled na genderovou korektnost, ale také její omezení a rezervy. Přináší také možné podněty pro budoucí práci na toto téma. Celkově tak poskytuje dobrý vhled do diskurzu genderové korektnosti. This thesis deals with a comprehensive examination of gender correctness in the English and Czech linguistic literature, analysing and comparing the perspectives of individual publications. By delving into the main themes and relevant issues related to this topic, the study presents not only the diverse range of perspectives present in scholarly works but also the role of gender correctness on equality in language. The paper defines the key concepts of gender correctness and its relevance to modern society. After comparing the perspectives of different publications, it presents a critical look at the current state of the literature on gender correctness. Thus, it presents not only the current view of gender correctness but also its limitations and gaps. It also provides possible suggestions for future work on the topic. Altogether, it provides a good insight into the discourse of gender correctness. STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS IN THOMAS HARDY'S NOVELS

2023 - anglický Bakalářská práce se zabývá postavením žen ve Viktoriánské době, konkrétně ve fikci Thomase Hardyho. Cílem práce je analyzovat a charakterizovat Hardyho hrdinky, které navzdory zavedeným Viktoriánským společenským normám, vyčnívaly z davu. Thomas Hardy poukázal na problémy tykající se žen, které byly v té době převážně přehlíženy. Porovnáním hrdinek s tradičním představou viktoriánských žen, odhalíme jejich odlišnosti. Základem této práce je analýza tří ženských románů a jejich protagonistek - Bathsheby Everdenové z Daleko od hlučícího davu (1874), Eustacie Vyeové z Rodákova návratu (1878) a Tess Durbeyfieldové z Tess z D'Urbervillů (1891). První kapitola se bude soustředit na popis Viktoriánského období a jeho společnosti, obzvláště žen a jejich status v patriarchální společnosti. Následující kapitoly se budou věnovat již zmíněným ženským postavám, jejich modernímu smýšlení a pokusům vzdorovat Viktoriánským ideálům. Tyto ženy čelily tradičním genderovým rolím Viktoriánské společnosti a usilovaly o zrovnoprávnění. The bachelor thesis focuses on the position of women in the Victorian Era, concretely found in the fiction of Thomas Hardy. The principle of this work is to analyse and characterise Hardy's heroines who, in defiance of the established Victorian social standards, stand out in a crowd. Thomas Hardy brought the female-related issues, at the time mostly overlooked, into focus. We reveal the dissimilarity of the heroines by comparing them to the traditional Victorian portrayal of women. The core of the thesis is the analysis of three feminine-centred novels with their protagonists - Bathsheba Everdene from Far from the Madding Crowd (1874), Eustacia Vye from The Return of the Native (1878) and Tess Durbeyfield from Tess of the d'Urbervilles (1891). The first chapter centres on the description of the Victorian era and its society, especially women and their status in a patriarchal society. The following chapters will be devoted to the above-mentioned female characters and their modern mindsets and attempts to defy the Victorian ideal. These women face the traditional gender roles of Victorian society and struggle for emancipation.
