A stranger in his own city: Ostrava painter Salomon Salomonowitz

2017 - Czech Czech-German Jewish painter Salomon Salomonowitz (1902-1958) was born in Moravian Ostrava, studied art in Vienna, Munich, Berlin and Paris. In 1926 he became one of the founding members of Ostrava artistic society Kunstring and with other members he regularly exhibited in the local House of Arts. In 1939 he emigrated to Mandatory Palestine where he continued his artistic work. His artworks are characterized by expressively realistic style. Česko-německý židovský malíř Salomon Salomonowitz (1902–1958) pocházel z Moravské Ostravy, umění studoval ve Vídni, Mnichově, Berlíně a Paříži. V roce 1926 se stal jedním ze zakládajících členů ostravského uměleckého spolku Kunstring, v rámci spolkových výstav pravidelně vystavoval v místním Domě umění. V roce 1939 emigroval do mandátní Palestiny, kde pokračoval ve své umělecké tvorbě, která je charakteristická expresivně realistickým stylem. 2017 - Czech The article tries about a new scope on the medieval mural paintings in the cloister of Emmaus monastery. The clue was found in connections of iconography of paintings and daily liturgy. Some paintings probably reflected the liturgical events in monastery. Studie se snaží o nový pohled na malby Emauzského cyklu. Řešení je hledáno v souvislostech ikonografie a všední liturgie. Některé malby totiž pravděpodobně odrážejí liturgické obřady v klášteře. 2016 - Czech The first part of the article (Jana Marešová) is dedicated to the sepulchral monuments in the Inventories of the Historical and Artistic Monuments published by Archaelogical Commission of the CASA. Specifically, it is focused on two transcription instructins and the difference between theory and reality. The second part (Klára Mezihoráková) is focused on the actual art-historical inventories prepared by the Institute of Art History of the CAS: Umělecké památky Moravy a Slezska [Artistic Monuments of Moravia and Silesia] and Umělecké památky Prahy [Artistic Monuments of Prague]. A systematic attention is devoted to the sepulcral monuments in these topographic series. První část článku (Jana Marešová) je věnována sepulkrálním památkám v Soupisech historických a uměleckých památek vydávaných Archeologickou komisí ČAVU. Konkrétně je zaměřen na dvě instrukce pro přepis a rozdíl mezi teorií a skutečností. Druhá část (Klára Mezihoráková) je zaměřena na aktuální umělecko-historické soupisy připravované Ústavem dějin umění AV ČR: Umělecké památky Moravy a Slezska a Umělecké památky Prahy. V těchto topografických sériích je věnována systematická pozornost sepulkrálním památkám. 2016 - Czech A seventh volume in the series Epigraphica et Sepulcralia, with a concept as a periodical forum for epigraphic and sepulchral studies, and the aim of mapping out the current state of research in two disciplines that are in practice closely linked – sepulchral research and mediaeval and early modern epigraphy. It is intended that individual issues will deliberately include articles with various chronological, thematic, disciplinary, and methodological approaches, and contributions by leading Czech and international researchers together with a selection of high-quality articles by researchers from the rising generation. In the current publication, therefore, in addition to the proceedings from the meeting in 2015, further complementary articles are to be found as outlined above. Czech versus German? Discussions of Style in Prague in the 1820s

2016 - Czech The text contentrates on the construction of loyalty to a distinct national group through the use of certain characteristics in painting to express solidarity with a "national" style. In painting this debate on the existence of national schools in Bohemia can be observed as starting in the 1820s. Subsequent development led to the deliberate idealisation of a Czech school of painting based on adherence to certain characteristics that were considered "Czech" and were defined in opposition to the contemporary notion of German style. Text se zabývá příkladem budování loajality k určité národní skupině prostřednictvím uplatnění určitých charakteristik v malbě (barvy, linie, figurálních typů) z hlediska jejich dobově vyhledávané sounáležitosti s "národním" charakterem umění. V malbě je taková diskuse o existenci národní školy v Čechách sledovatelná od poloviny 20. let 19. století a následný vývoj vedl k vědomému formování české malířské školy na základě dodržování určitých formálních charakteristik považovaných za české a definovaných v opozici k dobové představě o stylu německém.
