Influence of aging of concrete on the dynamic response of structures

Downtrend of the fundamental natural frequency of a structure with time, detected by periodical diagnostic in situ measurements, can signal damage, starting anywhere in the structure, or the progressing degradation of its material. The influence of aging (creep) of concrete on E-modulus is examined in the paper, using the data found on a real chimney during the first 7 years of its existence. An attempt to take the uncertainty of the measured input data for the prognosis of the future behaviour of the structure into account with the use of the SBRA method, is given. Pokles základní vlastní frekvence konstrukce s časem, zjištěný periodickým diagnostickým měřením na skutečné konstrukci, může signalizovat poruchu, vznikající někde na konstrtukci, nebo postupnou degradaci jejího materiálu. Zde je diskutován možný vliv dotvarování betonu na velikost modulu pružnosti, zjištěnou na skutečném železobetonovém komínu během prvních 7 let jeho existence. Je učiněn pokus vzít v úvahu nejistoty v naměřených hodnotách vlastní frekvence na prognózu chování komínu v dalších letech, s využitím metod SBRA.

Determination of the normal stresses in a cross-section of a beam exposed to two and three component effect of loading using SBRA method

The common tasks during design and reliability assessment of bars exposed to multicomponent load effects are determined by normal stress at considered cross-section. How to proceed in case, when at such cross-sections are, e.g., normal force Nx and bending moment My (possibly also Mz), expressed by corresponding histograms and the normal stress corresponding to elected probability P, are to be ascertained? A probable procedure is proposed in the paper. K běžným úlohám při navrhovaní a posuzovaní prutů namáhaných vícekomponentními složkami vnitřních sil patří určení normálového napětí ve zvoleném bodě průřezu. Jak postupovat v případech, kdy ve vyšetřovaném průřezu jsou např. osová síla Nx a momenty My (případně také moment Mz ) vyjádřeny podle metody SBRA histogramy odpovídajícími křivkám trvaní zatížení, přičemž má pravděpodobnost maximálního napětí ve vyšetřovaném bodě odpovídat žádané hodnotě PI. Problém lze řešit postupem naznačeným v příkladě 12.3 na straně 292 v knize [1]. Následující text vysvětluje a doplňuje dříve publikovaný postup.

This work is completed by technical diagnostic of wood constructions. Technical diagnostic made an inquiry actual condition of these wood constructions by visual and equipment methods. Příspěvek představuje výsledky dendrochronologické analýzy dřevěných konstrukcí renesančního mlýna v obci Slup (okres Znojmo). Pomocí dendrochronologického průzkumu se snaží odkrýt nejasný stavební vývoj této národní kulturní památky a vytvořit tak konkrétnější představu o historickém vývoji objektu. Práce je doplněna o stavebně technický průzkum dřevěných konstrukcí, na kterých byl zjišťován jejich aktuální stav pomocí vizuálních i přístrojových metod.

Příspěvek se zabývá matematickým modelováním s vlastnostmi lineární podélné vlny šířící se v jednorozměrném prvku s náhodnými imperfekcemi modulu pružnosti a hustoty materiálu.

The authors are engaged in interdisciplinary research and non-destructive testing of historic timber structures both in situ and in the lab. Therefore they take advantage of combining the approaches inherent to technical, historical and craft analyses of timberwork. To facilitate the spreading of knowledge of up-to-date diagnostic methods they are preparing an overview guidebook now which is supposed to help the heritage workers, owners, designers or contractors to choose among the possible testing tools and techniques the most proper one. The chapter which is devoted to the applying of ultrasonic methods for the timber non-destructive testing is shown as a sample here. Cílem předkládaného příspěvku je ověření vhodnosti a odborné přiměřenosti připravované metodiky průzkumů dřevěných konstrukcí na základě diskuze v rámci semináře WTA CZ "Sanace dřevěných konstrukcí a staveb 2007", a následné diskuze s autory prostřednictvím níže uvedených kontaktů.

We may classify preserved historical wooden structures as important documents of how advanced the material culture of our ancestors was. An important task for our society is to spread knowledge which helps preserve the maximum number of authentic wooden structures. The objective of the contribution is to get informed about methodological procedures which are used in the construction/historical and construction/technical research of historical wooden building structures. Dochované historické dřevěné konstrukce můžeme zařadit mezi významné doklady vyspělosti hmotné kultury našich předků. Důležitým úkolem naší společnosti je šíření znalostí, které napomohou k dochování maximálního počtu autentických dřevěných konstrukcí. Cílem příspěvku je seznámit se s metodickými postupy, které jsou používány při stavebně historickém a technickém průzkumu historických stavebních dřevěných konstrukcí.

Railway embankment reinforced by geogrid

Numerical study using the programme ANSYS deals with the generation of the numerical model and with the examination of the influence of the geosynthetic grid on the carrying - capacity and deformation of the simple railway's embankment on the less load-bearing subsoil. The stiffening grid is located on the separation of the embankment and the subsoil. The grid effect on the behaviour of the soil construction with the different height of layers is studied. Numerická studie v programu ANSYS se zabývá tvorbou výpočtového modelu a posouzením vlivu geosyntetické mřížky na únosnost a přetvoření jednoduchého železničního náspu na méně únosném podloží. Výztužná mřížka je umístěna na rozhraní náspu a podloží. Je studován její účinek na chování zemní konstrukce s různými mocnostmi vrstev.

Probabilistic methods application in civil engineering is not limited to the reliability assessment of structures only. As the denotation of Performance Based Design methodology suggests, probabilistic methods should allow the direct design of structures components with respect to the specified reliability conditions. In simplest cases the direct probabilistic design of individual members of the structure can be done easily, however the computational complexity grows rapidly with the number of the interconnected members and the number of the conditions to be satisfied. The situation is demonstrated in the following example. Aplikace pravděpodobnostních metod ve stavebním inženýrství není omezena pouze na posuzování spolehlivosti konstrukcí. Jak naznačuje metoda PBD pravděpodobnostní metody dovolují rovněž přímý návrh konstrukcí a prvků s přihlédnutím ke specifikovaným podmínkám spolehlivosti. V nejjednodušších případech může být pravděpodobnostní navrhování jednotlivých součástí aplikováno snadno I když složitost výpočtu rychle roste s počtem propojených součástí a s počtem podmínek které musí být splněny. Následující příklad naznačuje takový výpočet.

Contribution to the solution of a fatigue problem considering the durability of temporary bridges structures

The article presents the fatigue life estimate of a temporary, high strength steel bridge for tram traffic built in 1977 in Prague. Fatigue life assessment is now based on fully probabilistic concept. The loading as well as response history was considered and a fatigue criterion, based on the stress-range concept, was applied. Crack growth was modelled using LEFM procedures and compared with observed real cracks in the bottom flanges after about three and a half years of use. In the end the bridge had to be removed. Článek popisuje určení trvanlivosti provizorního vysoce namáhaného ocelového mostu vystaveného provozu tramvají, postaveného v roce 1977 v Praze. Životnost z hlediska akumulace poškození únavou je hodnocena plně pravděpodobnostním přístupem.
