Witch in Miller's The Crucible as compared to Kramer and Sprenger's Malleus Maleficarum

Arthur Miller was a twentieth century American playwright who wrote a play The Crucible about witches and witch hunts in Salem as an allegory to the McCarthyism which was the period of the persecution of putative communists in America. Heinrich Kramer and Jacob Spreger were German inquisitors living in the late fifteenth century in Germany who wrote the treatise on the prosecution of witches Malleus Maleficarum, which encouraged people to the persecution of witches. The aim of this paper is to analyse in detail the portrayals of women and witches in Salem compared with the condemnatory attitude of the authors of Hammer of the Witches. The bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of selected works of the author Gerald Vizenor. It outlines the history of Native Americans and their literature as well as introducing the author Gerald Vizenor and his body of work. Furthermore, it investigates the trickster character by firstly understanding its use in a variety of traditions and then exploring it as a concept in Vizenor´s novels. Specifically it analyses within the selected literature the writing methods of Gerald Vizenor; including his use of terms, names, neologisms, gender issues and other language techniques. Mountain Topos in Early Twentieth-Century British Literature

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the mountain topos and the human experience of this type of place in 20th century British literature. For the analysis the following works were chosen: Lost Horizon by James Hilton, The Ascent of F6: A Tragedy in Two Acts by Wystan Hugh Auden and Christopher Isherwood, "Amy Foster" by Joseph Conrad and finally Plain Tales from the Hills by Rudyard Kipling. The theoretical part outlines the main features of the mountain tops defined by Daniela Hodrová, Robert Macfarlane and Marjorie Hope Nicolson. The analytical part explores selected fiction and focuses on the relationship between mountains, human behaviour and experiences. With the technological transformation, human beings are also expected to change, transform and evolve. The advancements in bionics, computer and technological devices, cognitive and communication sciences, and robotics, have altered the perception of the human body and made it into more of a design object. Transhumanism stresses that future human beings would be capable of redesigning their bodies, in hope to transcend to a more evolved and higher being. This paper focuses on William Gibson's cyberpunk novel Neuromancer in the light of the concepts of transhumanism, cyberpunk, bionics, singularities, augmented reality, virtual reality, mind uploading, and artificial intelligence. This bachelor thesis deals with the feedback provided in English lessons in Czech elementary school. The paper is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part functions of feedback are summarized and general principles of providing feedback are described. The main focus is on the role of the learner in feedback in terms of English language acquisition. The main purpose of this thesis is to describe how James Fenimore Cooper depicts country in his novels and what roles different types of country play. The thesis analyses the rubrics and tasks in pronunciation coursebooks. In the first part of the paper, a certain attention is paid to the pronunciation features, which are vital to understand. Furthermore, the essential features of coursebooks, tasks and rubrics are explained. The second part of the paper deals with the evaluation of the rubrics and tasks regarding perception and production. Last but not least, the classification of tasks is examined according to the revised Bloom's Taxonomy. The aim of this bachelor paper is to depict fights and disputes of heterosexual couples in the plays Closer by Patrick Marber and Dogs Barking by Richard Zajdlic. The first part of the thesis focuses on cultural and historical background of in-yer-face theatre that was developed in the 1990s in Britain. The second part of the work represents a portrayal of modern society and its influence on contemporary heterosexual relationships. The third part offers a thorough analysis of the plays Closer and Dogs Barking. The concluding chapter compares the conflicts between the partners in these dramas. This paper focuses on the changing roles of women in the US society, especially in the Puritan colonies of the 16th century New England, where The Scarlet Letter is set. The theoretical part deals with Puritanism and their beliefs, the roles of women in the Puritanical society that are contrasted with women in Southern and mid-Atlantic colonies; it also briefly mentions the history of the author, Nathaniel Hawthorne and his ancestors, that certainly had an impact on the novel. The second part of the paper analyzes major women characters in The Scarlet Letter and describes them on the background of Puritanical society. This thesis focuses on the use of evaluative language in newspaper discourse. The theoretical part describes the language of media and its main characteristics. Furthermore, it focuses on the differences between the quality and the popular press. It also describes the functions and characteristics of newspaper discourse, news values and the evaluative language. Additionally, evaluative parameters are classified. In the practical part, findings from the theoretical part are applied to the particular newspaper reports, and the evaluative language is analysed.
