CFD Simulation of Hydrogen Production by Biomass Partial Oxidation
Tukač, V.; Hanika, Jiří; Veselý, Václav; Lederer, J.; Kovač, D.; Nečesaný, F.
2010 - English
Nowadays hydrogen demand caused by deep fuel refining and the other sustainable processes leads to utilization of new raw materials. Simultaneously, extensive biodiesel production creates great amount of biomass wastes transcendent over feeding potential of farm animals. One of potentially useful process of hydrogen production from renewable natural sources seems to be partial oxidation (POX) and gasification of biomass material like rape meal from rape oil production and/or distillery slop originated from bioethanol. The goal of this work was to develop simulation models of pilot POX reactor working with mixture of fuel oil and biomass.

Solubility of Ionic Liquids in Binary Systems with Water and Pseudobinary Systems with Solution Methanol/Water (1:1 Proportion of Weight)
Machanová, Karolina; Bendová, Magdalena; Sedláková, Zuzana; Wagner, Zdeněk; Aim, Karel
2010 - English
In this work, a study of solubilities of the above-mentioned ionic liquids in binary systems with water and pseudo-binary systems with solution methanol/water (1:1 proportion of weight) is presented. Knowledge of solubility of ionic liquids in these particular systems is helpful in the design and optimization of homogeneous catalytic processes, such as biphasic and reversibly biphasic catalysis. The solubilities were investigated by two experimental methods – the cloud-point and volumetric method.

Colloidal Silica as an Efficient Binder for the Preparation of Al-SBA-15 Pellets
Topka, Pavel; Karban, Jindřich; Soukup, Karel; Jirátová, Květa; Šolcová, Olga
2010 - English
The objective of this contribution was to examine the possibility of using colloidal silica as a binder for the preparation of extrudates or pellets from mesoporous molecular sieves. Al- SBA-15 pellets with different content of colloidal silica were prepared and their textural properties and mechanical stability were investigated. The catalytic activity of the pellets in Friedel-Crafts alkylation of toluene with benzyl alcohol was directly compared to that of binder-free pellets and powder catalyst.

Behavior of Rising Bubbles - Effect of Liquid Properties
Wichterle, K.; Smutná, K.; Večeř, M.; Růžička, Marek
2010 - English
Air bubbles with volumes 10 mm3 < V < 1000 mm3 were studied in liquids with different density ρ, viscosity μ, and surface tension σ: i. e. water, glycerol solutions, calcium chloride solution, PAA solution, and butyl alcohol. In countercurrent downward flow of the liquids, the bubble shape, position, and motion can investigated experimentally for a quite long time interval.

Influence of Interphase Meniscus on Bubble Formation at a Plate
Stanovský, Petr; Růžička, Marek
2010 - English
This work is focused on a single bubbling from orifice at the plate as the first step for modelling of multi-orifice bubble formation at perforated plate. We explored experimentally an influence of design parameters (orifice diameter, plate thickness, liquid viscosity, gas chamber volume) on the interphase meniscus behaviour. The influence of an external acoustic field on the meniscus and bubble formation was explored also to simulate an influence of the sound field produced by other bubbles in real process. Acquired characteristics of the meniscus were incorporated into the model of bubble formation process.

Theoretical Description of Motion of a Spherical Bubble in Neighbourhood of a Falling Particle
Basařová, P.; Vejražka, Jiří; Zedníková, Mária; Hubička, M.
2010 - English
The aim of this work is to broaden the knowledge of the hydrodynamic interactions that occur between bubbles and solids of a comparable size. Focusing on collision processes between a single rising bubble with mobile surface and a larger falling solid spherical particle in stagnant liquid, the theoretical model describing the bubble trajectory is given here. The model is based on forces acting on the bubble and utilizes also equation for the bubble motion. The bubble is considered to be spherical and its motion is straight and rectilinear. The particle is spherical and moves vertically down with a steady velocity; the flow around the particle is axially symmetric.

Wall Shear Rate Components for Wavy Taylor-Couette Flow
Kristiawan, M.; Jirout, T.; El Faye, A.; Sobolík, Václav
2010 - English
Experiments were carried out in the wavy flow between concentric cylinders with the inner cylinder rotating and outer cylinder fixed. The radius and aspect ratios were 0.8 and 44, respectively. The electrodiffusion method with a three-segment and simple micro-electrodes was used for study of the axial and azimuthal components of shear rate at the outer cylinder. The axial distributions of these components were obtained by sweeping the vortices along the probes using a slow axial flow. The wavelength and phase celerity of waves, height of vortices and their drifting velocity were calculated from the measured limiting diffusion currents.
