Is it Possible to Speak about Existencionalism in the Czech Literature?

Instead of existencionalism in the Czech literature it is better to speak about existencional poetry, not only relating to Orten's generation but also in František Halas' and Vladimír Holan's poetry in his late period. Stať ukazuje, že místo o existencialismu v české literatuře je vhodnější hovořit o existenciální poezii, a to nejen v souvislosti s generací Ortenovou, ale i u Františka Halase a u Vladimíra Holana v jeho posledním tvůrčím období.

Článek poukazuje na aspekty a témata, jimiž se historikové budou muset zabývat, pokud budou chtít nalézt zdroje husitské teorie svaté války a rekonstruovat názory pražských univerzitních mistrů.

On the Comeniological Studies by Jan Patočka

The paper concentrates on the topic of Patočka´s Comeniological conception. Patočka, in his lifelong work on Comenius, sought an answer to the question what position Comenius occupies in the development of European thinking. He saw Comenius´ contribution above all to be in his creation of a systematic philosophy of education and in his founding of a systematic pedagogy. Education is for Comenius a way in which mankind may be returned to the path of general order and panharmony. Comenius´ labyrinth is, in Patočka´s view, also the labyrinth of modern humanity. As a result we need, even today, a pedagogy of the universal conversion, the prototype of which is, according to Patočka, Comenius´general education. Příspěvek pojednává o komeniologické koncepci Jana Patočky. Patočka ve svém více než třicetiletém komeniologickém bádání hledal odpověď na otázku, jakou pozici zaujímá Komenský v evropském myšlení. Přínos Komenského spatřoval především ve vytvoření systematické filosofie výchovy a založení systematické pedagogiky. Výchova je pro Komenského cesta k všeobecnému návratu k všeobecnému řádu a panharmonii. Komenského labyrint je podle Patočky i labyrintem dnešního lidstva. Také my dnes potřebujeme pedagogiku universální konverze, jejímž předobrazem je podle Patočky Komenského Vševýchova.

The presentation of the World War I in the Czech literature is studied on the works of authors who spent the war in the Czechoslovak legions as well as of those who experienced it in the Austrian army. The attention is focused above all on book by J. John, on Kratochvíl´s novel „Prameny“ (Sources) and especially on Hašek´s novel and on Vančura´s „Pole orná a válečná“ (Arable and War Fields). Obraz první světové války v české literatuře je sledován na dílech autorů, kteří ji prožili v československých legiích, i těch, kteří válku strávili v rakouské armádě. Pozornost se soustřeďuje na knihu J. Johna, na Kratochvílův román Prameny a zejména na román Haškův a na Vančurova Pole orná a válečná.

Gender and nation:The woman and the visual culture in the era of national emancipation

The article is focused on gender aspects of visual culture. National culture was articulated during the process of national emancipation in Bohemia in canonical artworks which were created by great national artists (men). It was also the time when women struggled for recognision as creative beings. This could be seen as democratic deficit of national culture. The aim of the new interpretation of Czech national canonical works of art is to used gender studies to denaturalised static understanding of national culture. Tématem studie je zkoumání genderových aspektů vizuální kultury v době národní emancipace v Čechách. Národní kultura se vyznačuje nedostatkem uznání pro ženy jako tvůrčí bytosti i specifickými způsoby zobrazování žen. Tento demokratický deficit je charakteristickým rysem kanonických děl, s nimiž se identifikuje národní kultura. Pozornost je proto věnována tomu, jak se vytvářel obraz velkých národních mistrů a rozboru klíčových děl českého umění z pohledu genderových a kulturních studií.

Significant historical personalities usually have important influance on ideology too. The radical thinkers who prepared the revolution in 1848 (e.g. E.Arnold) presented Jan Žižka as a Republican or a Democrat according to period needs. Významné historické postavy prožívají svůj "druhý život" obvykle ve sféře ideologie. Radikální myslitelé, kteří v Čechách připravovali revoluci r. 1848 (např. E. Arnold), představovali Jana Žižku v souladu s potřebami doby jako předchůdce demokratických a republikánských snah.
