The essay is focused on teaching philosophy at high schools. It orders to survey a space for philosophizing which is opened between the impossibility of teaching philosophy as a systematic discipline with the testable advancement of the knowledge and the sensibility of young people to the irreconciable cruelties of the world. Esej tematizuje problém výuky filosofie na střední škole. Zkoumá prostor, který se otevírá mezi nemožností učit na této úrovni vzdělávání filosofii jako systematickou disciplinu s testovatelným postupem osvojování si znalostí a mezi citlivostí mladých lidí k nesmiřitelným krutostem světa. Využívá přitom modelově výklad o smrtelnosti jako bytostném rozlišovacím rysu mezi člověkem a zvířetem.

Bolzano has been aware of the fact that the „content“ of a concept is just a set of subconcepts whereas concepts themselves are the ways these subconcepts are interconnected: thus Bolzano’s Tudory is a theory of structured concepts. Bolzano si byl vědom toho, že ´obsah´ pojmu je pouhá množina jeho podpojmů, kdežto pojmy samy že jsou způsoby, jakými jsou tyto podpojmy vzájemně propojeny.

Bolzano and the Early Husserl

The paper deals with the historical and philosophical aspect of the relationship between the work of Bernard Bolzano and the early Edmund Husserl. A short historical sketch is followed by a discussion of the main philosophical motives of Bolzano’s work that inspired Husserl’s thought – idea of the pure logic, rejection of the logical psychologism, concept of the ideal content of representation. The final section of the paper explains the fundamental difference of both thinkers – Bolzano’s “phenomenological naivety”. Článek se zabývá historickým a filosofickým rozměrem vztahu díla Bernarda Bolzana a raného Edmunda Husserla. Po krátké historické skice následuje rozbor hlavních filosofických motivů, v nichž se nechal Husserl inspirovat Bolzanovým dílem – idea čisté logiky, odmítnutí psychologismu, myšlenka ideálního obsahu představy. V závěru je charakterizován základní rozdíl obou myslitelů – Bolzanova „fenomenologická naivita“.

Logical games and truth values

Formal game theory allows for an alternative view on logical systems: we can see verification of a certain statement as a game - formalized dialogue of two players. The rules of the game correspond to the properties of the system in the framework of which the statement is formalized. The article deals with the relation between properties of logical games and the number of truth values of the corresponding logical systems. Formální teorie her umožňuje zkoumat logiku z netradičná perspektivy. Zkoumání pravdivosti určitého tvrzení lze chápat jako hru - formalizovanou polemiku dvou hráčů. Pravidla hry pak odpovídají logickému systému, v jehož rámci je tvrzení formulováno. Článek se zabývá vztahem mezi vlastnostmi logických her a dvoj resp. vícehodnotovosti odpovídajících logických systémů.

Communication as a game: a misleading metaphor?

The author criticises the account of linguistic communication as a kind of game, in which rules (linguistic conventions) apply on moves (utterances, as made in given context) and give meanings of utterances as out-puts. Autor kritizuje pojetí jazykové komunikace jako hry, v níž se pravidla (jazykové konvence) aplikují na jednotlivé tahy (promluvy) a přiřazují jim významy.

The paper attempts to figure out the message of the dialogue from its text alone, without recurring to other dialogues or to an "unwritten doctrine". Socrates defeats Hippias in the discussion not by a superiority in positive knowledge but by his wits. He implicitly shows the reader that it is wrong to believe with Hippias that the morality of the character would be an ability of the kind of a positive knowledge. The message of the dialogue results in understanding that the human wit is more than knowledge, makes it possible, and enables us to use it morally well or evil. It is wit which makes us human, not knowledge. Studie chce pochopit smysl dialogu výhradně z jeho textu samého, bez pomoci jiných dialogů či "nepsané nauky". Sokratés poráží Hippiu v diskusi nikoli svou převahou v pozitivním vědění, nýbrž svou rozumností. Implicitně čtenáři ukazuje, že je chybou se domnívat, že charakterová zdatnost by byla záležitostí pozitivního vědění. Lidská rozumnost je víc než vědění, teprve na jejím základě je vědění vůbec možné a jedině ona nám umožňuje užívat vědění k dobru či ke zlu. Co nás činí lidmi, není vědění, nýbrž rozumnost.
