2011 - English
This study evaluates the resistance against multiple sterilization processes of radiolucent composite materials for use in medicine as an intraoperative imaging device material. The composite materials under investigation here are composed of carbon fibers, polyphenylene sulfide and polyetheretherketone matrix. The influence of multiple sterilization processes on changes in their mechanical and structural properties are determined. The radiolucency of the proposed composites is verified.

Application of geochemical analysis in the research of chemical fossils
Havelcová, Martina; Sýkorová, Ivana; Trejtnarová, Hana
2011 - Czech
Biomarkers (also termed chemical fossils) are specific organic compounds in geological samples which are derived from biochemical precursors by reductive or oxidative alteration processes. Chemical structures of biomarkers can be related back to the original compounds and utilized as indicators of biogenic, paleoenvironmental and geochemical processes. Examples of identified biomarkers in several studied coals, sediments, and wood fossils remnants are presented.

Dynamics and fragmentations of meteoroids during their flight in the atmosphere
Kalenda, Pavel; Borovička, Jiří; Spurný, Pavel
2011 - Czech
The dynamic fragmentation of meteoroids during their flight in the atmosphere is described. The examples of very weak meteoroids, which easy fragments, up to strong meteoroids, which produce the explosive fragmentation, are described.

The investigated composites reinforced with Nextel720 fibers reveal acceptable mechanical properties for applications exposed to temperature up to 1300 °C. Mechanical properties were studied after three-hour exposition at 1300, 1400 and 1500 °C without a protective atmosphere. This temperature treatment increases the mechanical strength up to 15 %.
