The birth of the national mythology as a theoretical construct and a practical act

This contribution first describes Vladimír Macura’s approach to 19th-century Czech literature and his concept of mystification. It then explores the correlations between his scientific concept of national awakening and his interest in Estonia, including his organization and translation work connected with that interest. Příspěvek charakterizuje přístup Vladimíra Macury k české literatuře 19. století a jeho pojetí mystifikace. Macurův vědecký koncept národního obrození pak usouvztažňuje s jeho zájmem o Estonsko a s ním spjatými aktivitami organizačními a překladatelskými.

Typographical description of the print Melanchtons Latin grammar of the Czech adaptation of Nigellus

This study is aimed at genesis and typographical description of Melanchton’s Latin grammar adaptation to Czech language. It was originally worked out by Valentin Trotzendorf for Silesian school in Goldberg (town Zlatorija in Poland today). It was prepared for printing by Laurentius Lodovicus – teacher from Zhořelec. Trojan Nigellus from Oskořín adapted this work on the Czech milieu in 1594 and its first edition was published in the printing press of Daniel Adam from Veleslavín. In Otmar’s reprint of this work is an evident effort to imitate its original design of Veleslavín’s edition. In the second half of the 17th century was its Czech adaptation from Nigellus printed in Jan Dadan’s printing house in Žilina. Článek se věnuje genezi a typografickému popisu české adaptace Melanchthonovy latinské gramatiky, kterou původně pro slezskou školu v Goldbergu (dnes Złatorija v Polsku) vypracoval Valentin Trotzendorf a pro tisk ji připravil zhořelecký učitel Laurentius Lodovicus. Do českého prostředí ji v roce 1594 adaptoval Trojan Nigellus z Oskořína a první vydání vzniklo v tiskárně Daniela Adama z Veleslavína. Pro Otmarovu reedici je patrná snaha důsledně napodobit sazbou i dekorem předlohu z veleslavínské tiskárny. Ve druhé polovině 17. století vyšla Nigellova česká adaptace v žilinské tiskárně u Jana Dadana st.

This study focuses on parallel instruments (etymology, archeology, and ideological discourse) that played a role in the mythical conceptions of Slavs and Celts during the Romantic and Pre-romantic periods (Travelogue of Jan Kollár from 1843; creators and critics of the Celtic-Gallic origin concept). Studie se zaměřuje na obdobné instrumenty (etymologie, archeologie, ideologický diskurz), které se v romantickém i předromantickém období podílely na mytickém pojetí Slovanů a Keltů jako výjimečných národů (Cestopis Jana Kollára z r. 1843; tvůrci a kritikové kelto-galské původnosti).

The analysis of the Gautier´s famous novel Captain Fracasse is governed by principles of historical poetics, i. e. by taking into account the presence of generic and discursive models or their elements distributed in the novel´s structure (like roman comique, theatricality, novel od adventure, journey topos). Analýza slavného románu Théophila Gautiera Kapitán Fracasse se v rámci historické poetiky zaměřuje na žánrové nebo diskursivní modely a jejich elementy (např. tzv. divadelní román, teatrálnost, dobrodružný román, topos cesty) ve struktuře příběhu.

The study about a different situation of two bipolar editorial staffs of Lidove noviny in Brno and Prague and connections between them is based chiefly on a quotations of the letters used to send by chiefeditor Arnost Heinrich from Brno to Prague editor Eduard Bass. Goal of the study is looking behind scene of a preparation of the reputable newspaper and it is new trial to tell its true and bitter story by eyes its best programme editor. Anotace: Studie pojednávající o dvou redakcich deníku Lidové noviny v Brně a v Praze a vztahu mezi nimi je založena především na citacích dopisů zasílaných šéfredaktorem Arnoštem Heinricha pražskému redaktoru Eduardu Bassovi. Cílem studie je nahlédnutí do zákulisí přípravy proslulého meziválečného deníku a nový pokus o vyprávění jeho pravdivého i trpkého příběhu očima jeho programového tvůrce.

Machine Work. On the Technology of Writing before 1914

The typewriter was a novelty in the Czech milieu at the beginning of the 1890s, which is evidenced by both the popularisation articles in dailies and professional journals and the first satires. Despite the parallel existence of multiple competing systems, the typewriter gradually found its application in administration (including the administration of publishing houses and periodicals), but very slowly in the creative sphere. A handwritten manuscript was considered to be an expression of the personality of its author and was highly valued in particular in connection with literary production. Generations of symbolists and decadents therefore placed emphasis on calligraphic writing. A writer initially selected a typewriter for very pragmatic reasons: joint diseases etc.); 2) the legibility of the resulting text (as a consequence of changes in typesetting technology and its multiple acceleration, the requirements on the handwritten text became much stricter); 3) the anonymity of the text (unlike the handwriting, the typescript does not point directly to its author). However, a typewriter found favourers among writers, it was used by Josef Kalousek or Eliška Krásnohorská, Václav Tille or Karel Matěj Čapek Chod. Psací stroj byl na počátku 90. let 19. století v českém prostředí novinkou, o čemž svědčí jak popularizační články v denících i odborných časopisech (např. Český mechanik), tak první satiry (např. Ignát Herrmann pod pseudonymem Vavřinec Lebeda v časopise Švanda dudák 1892). Přes paralelní existenci mnoha konkurenčních systémů se psací stroj postupně prosadil v administrativě (včetně administrace nakladatelství a periodik), ve sféře tvůrčí ovšem velmi pomalu. Rukopis byl považován za vyjádření osobnosti svého původce a byl ceněn zvláště v souvislosti s literární tvorbou. Generace symbolistů a dekadentů proto kladla důraz na kaligrafické psaní. K volbě psacího stroje spisovatele zpočátku vedly velmi pragmatické důvody: 1. zdravotní stav pisatele (zdravotní postižení, zvláště slepota, vleklé kloubní choroby apod.); 2. čitelnost výsledného textu (požadavky na rukopis se v důsledku proměny technologie sazby a jejího mnohonásobného zrychlení zpřísnily, přesto ještě ve 30. letech 20. století máme doklady rukopisu odevzdávaných sazeči /Karel Čapek/); 3. anonymnost textu (na rozdíl od rukopisu strojopis nepoukazuje přímo na svého autora). Nicméně své příznivce si psací stroj mezi spisovateli našel. Neobešli se bez něj Eliška Krásnohorská, Karel Matěj Čapek Chod nebo Václav Tille.
