The paper, one of the key speeches of the conference, investingates the role religion (incliding its detraditionalized forms) or opposition towards religion play in European identity, yet unexisting, and in relation to other, i.e. national or state collective identities. Článek – jeden z hlavních referátů konference – zkoumá, jakou roli hraje náboženství (včetně detradicionalizovaných forem) nebo naopak jeho odmítání v (zatím neexistující) Evropské identitě, i ve vztahu k jiným (nacionálním, státním ad.) kolektivním identitám.

Perception of social stratification: Those "at the bottom" – do they deserve recognition?

Text focuses mainly on discursive formation of unequal social categories, symbolic boundary maintenance and social identities. Analysis of 30 interviews with working men and women of different education and social position presents a closer view on ascribed characteristics and attitudes towards social categories/groups regarded by interviewees as "at the bottom" - "“homeless people" and "low-income employees". Differences are interpreted particularly in regard to past experiences and social position of interviewees. Text se zaměřuje na diskurzivní vytváření nerovných kategorií lidí, budování symbolických hranic mezi nimi a sociálních identit. Analýza rozhovorů s 30 pracující lidmi různého vzdělání a sociálního postavení přináší bližší pohled na připisované charakteristiky a postoje účastníků k sociálním kategoriím/skupinám označovaným jako "ty dole – bezdomovci" a "nízkopříjmoví zaměstnanci". Zjištěné rozdíly ve výpovědích jsou interpretovány především ve vztahu ke zkušenosti a sociální pozici vypravěčů.

Regional disparities in housing affordability – project description

The conference paper aims to provide basic information about the project supported by the Ministry for regional development of the CR. The goal of the project is to describe situation and development of regional disparities in housing availability and housing affordability and to analyse selected consequences (unemployment and migration rates, demographic conditions etc.) of regional disparities. The goal of the project, expected outcomes and research activities are described in the conference paper. Cílem příspěvku je podat základní informace o projektu podpořeném Ministerstvem pro místní rozvoj ČR, jehož cílem je zmapování a kvantifikace aktuálního stavu i vývoje regionálních disparit mezi kraji (NUTS 3) ČR ve finanční i fyzické dostupnosti bydlení a komplexní analýza vybraných důsledků těchto regionálních disparit. Příspěvek zejména popisuje jaký je hlavní účel projektu, jeho očekávané přínosy, hlavní a dílčí cíle projektu a očekávané výstupy projektu.

Development of educational inequality in the Czech Republic in mobility perspective – stagnation or dynamics?

This paper shows, with the aid of mobility analysis, how education reproduction evolved in the Czech lands from the pre-socialist period to the end of socialism. Analysis gives detailed insight into the processes that before 1948 and between 1948 and 1989 are concealed behind the observed stability of relative chances. The paper addresses the questions of when, whether, and to what extent the Czech education system became more dynamic and open, and when it stabilised or became closed. Příspěvek pomocí mobilitní analýzy ukazuje vývoj vzdělanostní reprodukce v českých zemích od před-socialistického období (r. 1916) až po konec socialismu. Analýza umožňuje detailnější pohled na procesy, které se před r. 1948 a mezi lety 1948 až 1989 skrývaly za stabilními relativními šancemi. Stať tak odpovídá na otázku, kdy, zda vůbec a do jaké míry během těchto dvou etap došlo ke zdynamizování a otevírání českého vzdělávacího systému, a kdy tento systém stagnoval či se uzavíral.

Sport as status symbol

Sports and physical activites can be linked to stratification system as status symbols. The analysis based on representative survey ISSP 2007 „Leisure Time and Sports“ is focused on position of most common sports in stratification map of the Czech society. Inspite of the most influencing variable in the analysis – demographics (age and gender), importance of social position of respondents can’t be neglected. Na sportování a pohybové aktivity je možné nahlížet jako na činnosti, které jsou svázány se stratifikačním systémem jako statusové symboly. Na základě analýzy dat z reprezentativního šetření ISSP 2007 je hledána pozice nejčastějších sportů ve stratifikační mapě české společnosti. Přestože největší vliv na aktivní provozování sportů mají demografické charakteristiky (věk a pohlaví), lze nezanedbatelný význam připsat i sociálnímu postavení.

Social policy in the Czech Republic: past and future of reforms

The controversies of Czech social policy after 1989 are described. The ambivalent character of the communist welfare state is considered and its theoretical altenatives outlined. After energetic changes, stagnation reigned since mid-1990s and only debates continued. Despite problems, performance of the system is satisfactory, as very low rate of poverty witnesses. However in the long run, dissatisfactory situation of families, frozen pension system and weak work motivation evoke concern. Příspěvek popisuje kontroverze české sociální politiky po roce 1989. Nejprve je ukázán ambivalentní charakter komunistického systému a jeho teoretické alternativy. Po energických změnách proběhlých do poloviny 90. let zavládla stagnace. Přes panující problémy je výkon systému uspokojivý. V delším horizontu však budí obavy neuspokojivá situace rodin, zmrazený penzijní systém a systémem založená slabá pracovní motivace.

This paper is based on analyze of two sociological studies done among professional sportsman and Roma youths. This piece points at the raising importance of sport in the daily life of young generation. There is also mentioned the big impact of social actors on setting up the positive attitude to sport. The article is discussing the perception of sport activity, its evaluation from the minority point of view. The paper is also considering the limits of sport activity and discriminatory conditions. Vztah romského etnika ke sportu je dosud nezkoumaný sociální jev. Příspěvek je založen na analýze dvou sociologických šetřeních zaměřených na romské výkonnostní sportovce a na romskou mládež. Text poukazuje na nárůst důležitosti sportovní aktivity v životě mladší generace Romů a na vliv sociálních aktérů na utváření tohoto vztahu. Dále se zabývá vnímáním sportovní aktivity mezi romskou mládeží, hodnocením jejích přínosů, ale i jejích negativních efektů a omezeních.

The separation of parental couple has two main consequences for the relation of father and his children and for the performance of his parental role. On one hand it is the „bifocalization“ of the household, and on the other the loss of the mediation of the father-child relationship by the mother. Rozchod rodičovského páru má dva zásadní důsledky pro vztah otce s jeho dětmi a pro performaci jeho otcovské role. Na jedné straně je to „bifokalizace“domácnosti, a na druhé straně ztráta zprostředkování vztahu mezi otcem a dětmi jejich matkou.
