Capital letters in the Old Czech Chapter Psalter

2021 - Czech The article deals with the influence of the notation of capital letters on the text of the Old Czech Psalters from the 14th century. The capital letters have a different function in the Psalters than in other contemporary manuscripts, where they usually serve for syntactic division of the text, while in the Psalters they mark the beginnings of verses and are written into the text additionally in a different colour of ink. In most Old Czech Psalters, the scribes supplemented the capital letters according to the prescribed letters. However, this does not apply to the so-called Chapter Psalter from the 1380s, whose scribe in some cases relied on his own judgment and added a different capital letter to the text than was prescribed. This could lead not only to a change in one word, but also to the overall meaning of the given Psalm verse, the scribe thus contributed significantly to the final version of the Old Czech Psalms. Článek se věnuje tomu, jaký vliv měl zápis majuskulí v staročeských žaltářích ze 14. století na obsahovou stránku textů. Majuskule mají v žaltářích odlišnou funkci než v jiných soudobých rukopisných zápisech, kde zpravidla slouží k syntaktickému členění textu, zatímco v žaltářích označují začátky veršů a jsou do textu zapisovány dodatečně odlišnou barvou inkoustu. Ve většině staročeských žaltářů rubrikátoři doplnili majuskule podle předepsané reprezentanty. To však neplatí pro Žaltář kapitulní z 80. let 14. století, jehož rubrikátor se v některých případech opíral o vlastní úsudek a doplnil do textu jiné velké písmeno, než mu předepisovala reprezentanta. Tím mohlo dojít nejen ke změně jednoho slova, ale i k celkovému vyznění daného verše, rubrikátor se tak nezanedbatelnou měrou podílel na výsledném textu staročeských žalmů. A Play for the Informed. Rhyming Riddles in National Revival Magazines

2021 - Czech Rhyming riddles and word plays (anagrams, logogriphs, palindromes and charades) in the cultural and social magazines and newspaper supplements of the national revival period represented a genre aimed at passing time. Their encrypted messages pointed to personalities and acts from an environment where a national society was being formed and was accessible mainly to those readers who identified with nationalist circles. A successful solution to a riddle was a key to this certain community. Veršované hádanky a slovní hříčky (anagramy, logogryfy, palindromy, šarády ad.) představovaly v kulturně-společenských časopisech a novinových přílohách období národního obrození žánr určený k ukrácení volné chvíle. Jejich zašifrovaná sdělení však odkazovala k osobnostem a počinům z prostředí utvářející se národní společnosti, a byla proto přístupná především těm čtenářům, kteří se identifikovali s vlasteneckými kruhy. Úspěšné řešení hádanky bylo klíčem k tomuto výlučnému společenství. 2021 - Czech Příspěvek pojednává o takzvané japonské čajovně, kterou na pražském holešovickém výstavišti u příležitosti Jubilejní výstavy v roce 1908 provozovali bratři Joe a Karel Hlouchovi. Autoři se domnívají, že tento podnik přitahoval své hosty nejen nabídkou občerstvení, ale stejnou měrou, ne-li více, také příslibem exotického zážitku, modelovaného po vzoru podobných atrakcí v západních zemích. Text sleduje, jakým způsobem byla tato exotická atrakce konstruována, a zasazuje ji do kontextu díla a podnikatelských aktivit japonofila a autora sentimentálních románů o Japonsku Joe Hlouchy. Nastiňuje také, jak tato atrakce souvisela s dobovým obrazem Japonska na Západě obecně, se společenskou módou japanismu a s tím, jak se tyto odrážely v zábavě středostavovských společenských vrstev. Na citacích z humoristických a publicistických článků o čajovně studie ukazuje, že návštěvníci si byli umělosti „hry na Japonsko“ částečně vědomi, aniž by to ovšem zcela kazilo jejich radost z „exotického zážitku“. Historical Configurations of Czech Bagpipes Bands in the Production of Conterporary Folklore Ensembles

2021 - Czech Chamber instrument configurations of bagpipes, a violin and a clarinet in various variations are in the Czech regions documented latest from the 19th century. Exclusive position is taken by a so-called small country music band, trio of (short) violin, bagpipes tuned to e-flat and e-flat clarinet, the score of which was recorded by Ludvik Kuba in the region of Chodsko in the 1890s. The contribution comments on sustainability of these historical configurations in modern musical work, changes in their function and new utilisation of the compositions and arrangements for various bagpipes bands in repertoire as well as on stage productions of folk groups and bands from Southwest Bohemia. A dominant position in the environment of folkloristic movement - also thanks to a long-standing media performance of Konrady Bagpipes Music Band from the town of Domazlice - is held by a configuration of big bagpipes band with a double bass and contra violin. More often that earlier, however, we hear on the recordings and see at concerts and festivals a duo of bagpipes - violin, or the above mentioned ‘country’ trio. A novelty originating from the environment of folklore groups is a genre of virtuoso compositions for solo bagpipes, or even for two or three bagpipes. An interesting outcome of the current research is acknowledgement of the above standard knowledge most creative personalities of the modern bands show as far as historical sources of Czech bagpipes music are concerned, which is a promise of a quality presentation of the cultural heritage and sustainability of their artistic and popularisation activities. Komorní nástrojové sestavy dud, houslí a klarinetu jsou v českých regionech v různých variantách doloženy nejpozději od 19. století. Výjimečné postavení v nich zaujímala tzv. malá selská muzika, trio (krátkých) houslí, dud v ladění in es a es-klarinetu, jehož partitury na Chodsku v 90. letech 19. století v terénu zaznamenal Ludvík Kuba. Příspěvek konstatuje životnost těchto historických sestav v novodobé tvorbě, proměny jejich funkce a nové využití skladeb a aranží pro různé dudácké sestavy v repertoáru a jevištní produkci folklorních souborů a kapel z jihozápadních Čech. Dominantní postavení má v prostředí folklorního hnutí – i díky dlouholetému mediálnímu působení Konrádyho dudácké muziky z Domažlic – sestava velké dudácké muziky s kontrabasem a houslovou kontrou. Mnohem častěji než dříve se však na nahrávkách i na koncertech a festivalech uplatňuje duo dudy – housle či výše zmíněné „selské“ trio. Za novotvar vzniklý v prostředí folklorismu lze považovat žánr virtuózních skladeb pro sólové dudy či dokonce pro dvoje či troje dudy. Zajímavým výsledkem aktuálního výzkumu je konstatování nadstandardní poučenosti většiny tvůrčích osobností současných souborů ohledně historických pramenů české dudácké hudby, která je příslibem kvalitní prezentace kulturního dědictví a udržitelnosti jejich uměleckých a popularizačních aktivit. Celtic mercenaries in the military services of the medditerranean states and their homecoming to the countries of the Middle Europe

2021 - Czech Activities of the Celtic mercenaries in the Mediterranean environment are surprisingly often mentioned by the ancient writers. They used to appear in services for authorities there, in the Near East, “Magna Graecia” and other parts of southern Europe and also in Egypt or Carthage. They completed armies of the states fighting each other or against the Roman republic when they joined the fighting for domination in this area, and the last troops were still in service during the last decades before the change of the era. The findings discovered during the archaeological research, mainly coins that had been produced in the Mediterranean area and which appear in the Middle Europe (Roseldorf, Němčice nad Hanou, Nowa Cerekwia) led to a hypothesis that some of the mercenaries returned to these places after finishing their service. The article comes up with arguments enabling a support for such hypotheses. O působení keltských žoldnéřů v mediteránním prostředí se překvapivě často zmiňují antičtí zpravodajové. Objevovali se ve službách tamních států, na Předním Východě, ve Velkém Řecku a v dalších částech jižní Evropy, a také v Egyptě nebo Kartágu. Doplňovali vojska mocností bojujících mezi sebou anebo proti Římské republice v době, kdy se zapojila do zápasů o dominanci v této oblasti, a poslední jednotky byly ve službě ještě v desetiletích před změnou letopočtu. Nálezy získané při archeologických výzkumech, především mince ražené ve Středomoří, které se objevují ve střední Evropě (Roseldorf, Němčice nad Hanou, Nowa Cerekwia) vedly k nastolení hypotézy, že se někteří z žoldnéřů do těchto míst po skončení služby vraceli. V článku jsou uváděny argumenty, které umožňují podpořit takové domněnky. Regulation and Restriction of Entertaining Activities in the Environment of the Unity of the Brethren in the Pre-White Mountain Period

2021 - Czech The effort of the Unity of the Brethren as a church group was to form a Christian community according to the biblical image of the Apostolic Church, in which the supreme authority is the Scripture, which also serves as the highest measure of proper conduct at all levels. The behaviour of all Brethren members was to be adapted to this accordingly. Although the social structure of the Brethren members changed over its existence, the principles of order and discipline, characterised by an emphasis on moral quality of life, obedience and God’s commandments applied to all its members, regardless of estate or social status. On the basis of\nnormative sources derived from fraternal leaders or issued in synodal resolutions, as well as narrative sources, especially sermons, it is possible to observe how the Brethren viewed the entertainment activities of its members, celebrations related to human life events, holidays, music and games. However, the strict rules necessarily led to their violation when applied in practical life. \n Snahou Jednoty bratrské, jakožto církevního uskupení, bylo utváření křesťanského společenství podle biblického obrazu apoštolské církve, v němž je svrchovanou autoritou Písmo, které zároveň slouží jako nejvyšší měřítko správného konání na všech úrovních. Tomu mělo být přizpůsobováno i chování všech jejích členů. Ačkoli sociální struktura členů Jednoty se v průběhu její existence měnila, pro všechny své údy uplatňovala bez rozdílu společenského stavu a sociálního postavení zásady řádu a kázně, jejichž charakteristickým rysem je důraz na mravní kvalitu života, poslušnost a plnění Božích přikázání. Na základě pramenů normativní povahy, pocházejících z pera bratrských představitelů či vydaných v rámci synodních usnesení, i pramenů narativních, zejména kázání, lze sledovat, jak Jednota nahlížela na zábavní aktivity svých údů, oslavy spojené s životními událostmi člověka, svěcení svátků či na provozování hudby a her.
