Damage identification of structures using the dynamic response

The identification is a process which presents the characteristics of a structure. It uses the dynamic response of a structure due to an impulse by standard load. The response uses the forced vibration and the method can also estimate the fatigue life of a structure.The paper presents a summary of the experiments in a laboratory as well as in situ. Identifikace je stanovení hodnot veličin matematického modelu dynamické soustavy pomocí výsledků měření její odezvy. Některé metody diagnostiky a identifikace byly ověřeny a některé odvozeny i v ÚTAM AV ČR na velkých fyzikálních modelech, některé na skutečných konstrukcích.

Differences between historic and modern lime binders used for preparation of mortars and renders

The paper presents foundings from the field of characterisation of historic mortars and points at potential differences between traditional production of lime binder and preparation of mortars and “modern” ones. The aim of the contribution is to revise the current state of the art and mark out main research directions. Příspěvek ukazuje poznatky z oblasti charakterizování historických malt a poukazuje na potencionální odlišnosti tradiční výroby vápenného pojiva a přípravy malt oproti současné výrobě. Cílem příspěvku je revidovat současné poznatky a vytyčit směry výzkumu v oblasti výroby vápenného pojiva jako tradičního materiálu pro obnovu památek.

Analysis of eigen-values of viscously damped two degrees of freedom system due to changes of parameters of secondary subsystem

The paper deals with an analysis of non-classically damped two degrees of freedom system from the point of view of eigen-values. The theoretical relations between the system parameters for the case of multiple complex eigen-values were derived. The parametric problem was carried out analytically and graphically. The influence of the relative frequency tuning on the overdamping of individual eigen-values with increasing of the secondary damping was studied. The overdamping intervals were defined with respect to the mass ratio and the frequency tuning. The boundaries between respective overdamping intervals represent among others the frequency tuning of system with multiple complex eigen-values. The phase between components of eigen-modes and its relation to the eigen-values were examined with respect to the secondary damping increase. Příspěvek se zabývá analýzou neklasicky tlumené soustavy se dvěma stupni volnosti z hlediska jejích vlastních čísel. V příspěvku byly odvozeny vztahy mezi parametry soustavy, která má násobná komplexní vlastní čísla. Parametrický problém byl řešen analyticky i graficky. Byl také zkoumán vliv vzájemného frekvenčního naladění na přetlumení jednotlivých vlastních čísel s nárůstem sekundárního útlumu. Byly definovány režimy a jejich subintervaly přetlumení s ohledem na zvolenou poměrnou hmotnost a vzájemné frekvenční naladění. Hranice mezi subintervaly představují mj. vzájemná frekvenční naladění subsystémů pro případ soustavy s násobnými komplexními vlastními čísly. V příspěvku byla také zkoumána fáze mezi složkami komplexních vlastních tvarů a jejich vztah k jednotlivým vlastním číslem jako funkcí sekundárního útlumu.

On the basis of long research into the structural integrity of high pressure gas pipelines and the theoretical and experimental results, the authors have prepared a simple engineering method for assesing the integrity of cylindrical shells containing longitudinal part-through cracks in the wall. Na základě mnohaletého výzkumu konstrukční integrity vysokotlakých plynovodů a získaných teoretických i experimentálních výsledků vypracovali autoři jednoduchou inženýrskou metodu hodnocení integrity válcových skořepin obsahujících podélné neprůchozí trhliny ve stěně.

The effect of chemical degradation of surface layers on mechanical properties of wood

The aim of the research was the determination of the effect of chemical degradation on the surface layers of wooden constructional elements and their mechanical properties and also the depth which the damage reaches. The degradation of wood surface layers was caused by chemical reactions of some compounds contained within fire-prevention coatings applied repeatedly on wooden constructions of historic buildings in the past. These include e.g. ammonium sulphate and ammonium phosphate. This paper presents experimental procedures and results obtained through measuring of mechanical properties in the damaged layer of fibrillated wood and in wood without damage. The observed properties were wood compressive and tensile strength and wood hardness. The results proved a loss in cohesion and changes in mechanical properties only in a thin surface layer. Cílem výzkumu bylo zjištění vlivu chemické degradace povrchových vrstev dřevěných konstrukčních prvků na jejich mechanické vlastnosti a hloubky, do které toto poškození zasahuje. Degradaci povrchových vrstev dřeva konstrukčních prvků způsobily chemické reakce některých sloučenin obsažených v protipožárních nátěrech v minulosti opakovaně aplikovaných na dřevěné konstrukce historických objektů. K takovým chemikáliím patří např. síran amonný a fosforečnan amonný.

Problems with the quality of lime mortars modified with metakaolin in the field of conservation of building heritage

The paper presents a case of failed application of air lime mortar modified with metakaolin as the replacement of decayed or missed render rep. jointing mortar from historic wall. Detailed material characterization of applied mortar results in determination of causes leading to low durability of mortar applied on historic walls. V příspěvku je prezentován problematický případ, kdy byla k opravě historické zdi použita vápenná malta s metakaolinem: oprava hřbitovní zdi kostela sv. Václava v Chlumu u Třebíče. Na základě podrobné analýzy vlastností staveništních malt jsou stanoveny příčiny nízké životnosti tohoto materiálu při zmíněných aplikacích.

Influence of Recurrent Overloading on the Integrity of Gas Pipes

During hydrostatic tests of gas pipelines the tested pipeline sections are also subjected to recurrent overloading depending on the type and purpose of the test. Recurrent overloading of older piping in operation, in the walls of which the occurrence of cracks cannot be excluded, may be surrounded by some uncertainties as regards their integrity, which may be damaged. On the basis of experimental results obtained on a gas pipe with artificially generated fatigue cracks the authors analysed (from the position of the latest knowledge of fracture mechanics) the conditions that result in the bursting of the ligament in front of the crack tip during recurrent overloading, and discuss the potential mechanisms of reduced fracture pressure during recurrent overloading. Při realizaci některých tlakových zkoušek plynovodních potrubí jsou zkoušené plynovodní úseky podrobeny i opakovanému přetížení, a to v závislosti na druhu a účelu tlakové zkoušky. Právě opakovaná přetížení starších provozovaných potrubí, v jejichž plášti nelze vyloučit výskyt trhlin, jsou předmětem určitých nejasností, pokud jde o zachování či porušení jejich integrity. Na základě experimentálních výsledků, získaných na plynovodní trubce s uměle vygenerovanými únavovými trhlinami, jsou z pozic soudobé lomové mechaniky analyzovány podmínky, vedoucí k protržení ligamentu před čelem trhliny při opakovaném přetížení a jsou diskutovány možné mechanismy sníženého lomového tlaku při opakování přetížení trubky.

Study of historic mortars - Inspiration for the lime industry?

Study of historic mortars is motivated by the desire of understanding of these materials and also by the contemporary approach towards repair of architectural heritage. Detailed study contributes to new scientific findings for example about durability of materials and their degradation agents. Results of study of historic mortars can be an inspiration for production of modern lime based mortars. The focus on authenticity and understanding of historic materials leads to a reintroduction of production of some binders for repair of historic buildings. The 2nd Historic mortars conference joined with the RILEM TC 203-RHM - Repair mortars for historic masonry -was held in Prague earlier this year. This paper refers about selected contributions of this conference. Studium historických malt je motivováno touhou po poznání těchto materiálů a také současným přístupem k opravám architektonického kulturního dědictví. Detailní studium přispívá i k novým vědeckým poznatkům např. ohledně trvanlivosti materiálů a jejich degradačních činitelů. Výsledky studia historických malt mohou být i inspirací pro výrobu současných malt. Důraz na autentičnost materiálů a opětovné poznání kvalit může vést i k znovuzavedení výroby některých pojiv za účelem oprav historických staveb. V letošním roce se v Praze konala druhá mezinárodní konference o historických maltách HMC2010 ve spojení se závěrečným workshopem technického výboru organizace RILEM TC 203-RHM -Repair Mortars for historic masonry. Tento článek referuje o vybraných příspěvcích z této konference a závěrečného workshopu.

Auto-parametric vibrations of simple systems related with inverse pendulum

The aim of this study is to point out one special class of auto-parametric systems related with basic properties of the inverse pendulum. Sensitivity of these systems after the dynamic stability loss is significantly higher than the others as their effective stiffness has rather a softening character. Cílem studie je upozornit na speciální třídu auto-parametrických systémů, které mají podobný charakter dynamického chování jako inversní kyvadlo. Citlivost těchto systémů po ztrátě dynamické stability je mnohem větší než v jiných případech neboť jejich efektivní tuhost má měknoucí charakter.
