Masaryk and Nietzsche in the Thoughts of F. X. Šalda

2007 - Czech The paper examines impact of the philosophy of T. G. Masaryk and Friedrich Nietzsche on thoughts of Czech eminent critique F. X. Šalda. Despite of Masaryk's rejection of Nietzsche's philosophy the modernist literary generation of 1890s perceived his personality and thinking through prism of Nietzsches´s ideas and understood Masaryk in Nietzschean way as a great "destructor" and "creator". The later Šalda's criticism of Masaryk refers to Nietzsche again when he arguments that the notion of life can´t be deprived of subconscious and chaotic realms. After 1918 Šalda criticised the way the Masaryk´s conception of democracy was turned into the politic reality. Studie zkoumá ohlas filozofie T. G. Masaryka a Friedricha Nietzscheho v myšlení českého kritika F. X. Šaldy. I když Masaryk Nietzscheho filozofii odmítal, literární generace 90. let často vnímala jeho osobnost a myšlení právě prizmatem Nietzschových myšlenek a Masaryk jim představoval velkého bořitele a tvořitele. Později Šalda kritizoval Masarykovu redukci pojmu života o stránky podvědomé a chaotické, po roce 1918 pak i způsob prosazování pojmu demokracie do politické reality. 2007 - Czech Six studies on founding values of Czech modern society between the end of the 19th century and the mid1900 investigate the nature of Czech political culture. The findings indicate that shared political values are prevailingly democratic. Consequently, they support the thesis that the nature of the first Republic and its society was democratic. V šesti studiích o konstitutivních hodnotách české společnosti od konce 19. do poloviny 20. století je zkoumán charakter politické kultury. Sdílené hodnoty jsou vesměs demokratické a podporují tezi o demokratickém charakteru první republiky a společnosti, která ji tvořila. 2007 - Czech The work Democracy Today and Tomorrow by Edvard Beneš has a theoretical nature, it is meant neither for practical politics or as directions for "popular democracy". Its value orientation is democratic. Democracy in a broader sense, including political, social and economic aspects, perceives as "humanistic" democracy, not "socializing" as some authors claim. The work promotes individual and civic freedoms against national a state totalitarianism. He considered the conditions on which the cooperation between democracy and the Communists would be possible. As the main objective of democracy he perceived the strengthenning its social aspects, called economic. Práce je teoretická, nejde o návod k politické činnosti, vůbec už ne praktickou instrukci k lidové demokracii. Základní hodnotová orientace práce je demokratická. Hlubší a dokonalejší demokracii politickou, sociální a hospodářskou charakterizuje jako demokracii humanitní, nikoli socializující, jak se někteří autoři domnívají. Obhajuje individuální a občanské svobody proti národnímu a státnímu totalismu. Zvažoval podmínky, za nichž bude možné spolupráce a sblížení komunismu s demokracií. Před demokracií viděl úkol přerodit se v demokracii sociální a tzv. hospodářskou. 2007 - Czech The paper is concerned with the relationships of Czech political Catholicism towards the democratic system of the First Republic. It refutes the generally established view that Catholics opposed democracy. Drawing on archival sources and periodical press, the author proves clearly that the majority of Catholics identified themselves with the system, while only marginal groups were opposing it or demanded some sweeping reforms. Studie rozebírá vztah českého politického katolicismu k demokratickému systému v době první republiky. Vyvrací zažitý názor, že katolíci byly proti demokracii. Autor na základě archivních pramenů a dobového tisku jasně prokázal, že většina katolíků se s tímto systémem ztotožnila a pouze okrajové proudy byly proti tomuto systému, případně navrhovaly dalekosáhlé reformy. Libraries of Dietrichstein house in Mikulov, their history and discoveries of Dietrichstein's manuscripts in the National Library in Prague

2007 - Czech Dietrichstein family built up two libraries in Mikulov chateau; both belonged to the greatest noble libraries not only in Moravia but in the Central Europe. The first one was founded by Adam Dietrichstein (+ 1590); it culminated during the rule of his son Franz, archbishop of Olomouc. After his death the library came as a war plunder in the royal library in Stockholm, and the queen Kristine carried away its part to Rome (now in the Vatican library). The core of the 2nd library was gained from bibliophile Hofman von Grünbüchl; it had to be, however, sold out in an auction in 1933. The Czechoslovak Republic bought 117 manuscripts then, today preserved in the Moravian Provincial Library in Brno. 24 manuscripts were deposited in the Library of the National Museum in Prague in 1950s and 1960s. 9 manuscripts were identified in the National Library in Prague in the last time; they get there from the auction and later also thanks to purchases from Prague second-hand bookshops. Ditrichštejnové vybudovali v Mikulově dvě rodové knihovny; obě patřily ve své době k největším šlechtickým knihovnám nejen na Moravě, ale ve střední Evropě vůbec. První z nich založil Adam z Ditrichštejna (+ 1590); ta svého vrcholu dosáhla za jeho syna Františka, arcibiskupa olomouckého. Po jeho smrti však skončila jako válečná kořist v královské knihovně ve Stockholmu. Královna Kristina odvezla část knih do Říma, kde se staly součástí vatikánské knihovny. Základ své druhé rodové knihovny získali Ditrichštejnové v knihovně bibliofila Hofmana z Grünbüchlu. Průběžně doplňovaná knihovna byla z finančních důvodů r. 1933 rozprodána v dražbě. Československá republika tehdy zakoupila 117 rukopisů, dnes uložených v Moravské zemské knihovně v Brně. 24 rukopisů se v 50. a 60. letech 20. století dostalo do Knihovny Národního muzea v Praze. 9 rukopisů bylo v poslední době identifikováno v Národní knihovně v Praze, kam se dostaly ze zmíněné aukce a později také akvizicemi z pražských antikvariátů. 2007 - Czech The author presents a collection of documents regarding Masaryk family kept by the Lilly Library in Bloomington (part of the Indiana University). Valuable documents were donated to this library by social worker Ruth Crawford-Mitchel in 1963. In 1919, she helped to establish the Czechoslovak Red Cross in Prague and met Alice Masaryk there. Given, so far not arranged part contains namely a part of personal archives of Alice Masaryk (personal documents, manuscripts, press documentation), and Olga Masaryk-Revilliod (correspondence). Autorka přibližuje soubor dokumentů vztahujících se k Masarykově rodině, které jsou uchovány v Lilly Library v Bloomingtonu, jež je částí Indiana University. Cenné materiály byly knihovně předány v roce 1963 sociální pracovnicí Ruth Crawford-Mitchel, která po první světové válce pomáhala v Československu založit Červený kříž a spřátelila se s Alicí Masarykovou. Materiály, částečně uspořádané, jsou rozděleny do fondu Alice Masaryková (osobní dokumenty, rukopisy, tisk) a Olga Masaryková-Revilliodová (korespondence). Keywords: Masaryk, T.
