2012 - English The thesis is focused on the analysis of English and Scottish Reformation, on the description of the main differences and the impact of the Reformation on the society. Furthermore, the emphasis is placed on a fact, that the monarchs and nobility, whose participation was necessary for the success of the Reformation, were not concern about the religious reform but about finances and political power. Tato práce je zaměřena na analýzu anglické a skotské reformace, popsání hlavních rozdílů a dopadů reformace na společnost. Dále na zdůraznění faktu, že panovníci a šlechta, jejichž podíl byl pro úspěch reformace klíčový, se nezajímali o náboženskou reformu ale o finance a politickou moc. Ambivalence v překladu dětské literatury a její percepce dvojím čtenářem

2013 - English This thesis deals with translation of children's literature, and more particularly is focused on ambivalence in translation and the perception of the dual readership. The theoretical part introduces a general theory of children's literature, translation theory and theory about translating children's literature, ambivalence in translation, and levels in translation. In the practical part the Czech translation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is analyzed, investigating ambivalence and levels preserved in translation. The last chapter of practical part is realized by a research, regarding the actual realization of ambivalence and the perception by the dual readership in the Czech translation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Tato práce se zabývá překladem dětské literatury, zvláště se pak zaměřuje na ambivalentnost překladu a vnímání dvojím čtenářem. V teoretické části je představena základní teorie dětské literatury, teorie překladu a překladu dětské literatury, ambivalence a roviny v překladu. V praktické části se pak práce zaměřuje na analýzu ambivalence a rovin v překladu Alenky v Kraji divů. Závěr praktické části tvoří dotazníkové šetření týkající se právě vnímání Alenky v Kraji divů dvojím čtenářem a současně i vnímání již zmiňovaných rovin a ambivalence v překladu. 2017 - English This thesis deals with comparing Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by himself, in order to recreate the image of slavery in the mid 19th century American South. The aim of this thesis is to explore the social, intellectual and religious environment described in the work of both authors and, at the same time, to emphasize their shared view of slaveholding having a corrupting influence not only on the slaves, but also on the whole society. Závěrečná práce se zabývá porovnáním knih Marka Twaina Dobrodružství Huckleberryho Finna a Fredericka Douglasse Vyprávění o životě Fredericka Douglasse za účelem vytvoření obrazu otroctví amerického jihu v polovině 19. století. Cílem práce je prozkoumat sociální, intelektuální a náboženské prostředí popisované v dílech obou autorů a zároveň zdůraznit jejich shodný názor potvrzující neblahý vliv otrokářství nikoliv pouze na otroky, ale rovněž na celou společnost. 2017 - English This thesis analyzes the capability of Czech high school students to translate the given sentences from Czech to English focusing on the word order of adverbials and single adverbs. We found out that what causes them the most problems are sentences with multiple adverbials. On the other hand, sentences with common adverbials used on daily basis are easier and they proved to form them correctly. Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje schopnost středoškolských studentů angličtiny přeložit věty z českého jazyku do angličtiny a je zaměřena na slovosled příslovečných určení a příslovcí samotných. Zjistili jsme, že největší problém jim způsoboval překlad vět s více než jedním adverbiem. Na druhou stranu, věty s jednoduššími příslovečnými určeními, které používají denně jsou pro ně snazší a ví si s nimi rady. The first chapter is devoted to the development of the legend from its first sources to modern literature. The second chapter provides historical context for this development. The third chapter describes places connected with Arthur and the theories about his identity. Předmětem této práce je popis vývoje legendy o králi Artušovi, jejího historického kontextu a jejího spojení s historií. Ambivalence v prvotních románech Muriel Sparkové

2018 - English This thesis deals with the feature of ambivalence in Muriel Spark's early novels written in the period from 1957 to 1965, particularly: The Comforters, Robinson, Memento Mori, The Ballad of Peckham Rye, The Bachelors, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, The Girls of Slender Means and The Mandelbaum Gate. In the first part, there is a brief summary of the main events from the life of the authoress, because she likes to incorporate the autobiographical facts into her fiction. This thesis also focuses on the tradition of doubleness typical of Scottish literature and culture. The next part is dedicated to the actual analysis of the works, where I establish how the ambivalence affects each novel as a whole and its characters as well. Furthermore, I support my claims by adding concrete examples from the aforementioned works. Bakalářská práce se zabývá ambivalencí v prvotních románech Muriel Sparkové napsaných v letech 1957 - 1965, jmenovitě: Utěšitelé, Robinson, Memento Mori, Balada z předměstí, Staří mládenci, Nejlepší léta slečny Jean Brodieové, Nezámožná děvčata a Mandelbaumova brána. Součástí práce je krátký přehled hlavních mezníků ze života autorky, protože ráda je využívá ve své tvorbě. Práce se rovněž zaměřuje na tradici dualismu ve skotské literatuře a kultuře. Další část je věnovaná samotné analýze děl, ve které zjišťuji, jaký vliv má ambivalence na román jako celek i jeho postavy. Mé tvrzení dále podporuji konkrétními příklady z výše uvedených děl.
