Poverty in the Czech Republic: A Critical Look at EU Indicators

National and cross-national data from EU-SILC surveys are used for various comparisons: of different indicators of poverty; of this data source with administrative data; of the time of remaining in poverty according to various indicators; of the situation in the Czech Republic with EU countries. The advantages of the “subjective” poverty indicator based on reporting on make ends meet are stressed. Národní a mezinárodní data šetření EU-SILC jsou využita k porovnání různých ukazatelů chudoby; k porovnání dat tohoto šetření s administrativními zdroji; k porovnání doby setrvání v chudobě podle jednotlivých ukazatelů; k porovnání situace v České republice se zeměmi EU. Oproti indikátorům EU prezentujeme výhody „subjektivního“ ukazatele chudoby založeného na výpovědi, že domácnost vychází s příjmy s velkými obtížemi.

Report on gender bias in evaluation and governance

This report on gender bias in evaluation and governance has been prepared within the framework of EGERA Workpackage 5 and addresses research evaluation and gender bias in evaluation and related governance structures in partner organization 3 CVGZ. Specifically, the report looks into the evaluation process of academic and administrative staff, focusing on the possible gender bias in these processes. The report concludes with a list of recommendations proposed to improve the management in terms of gender equality.\n\n

The report summarizes the results of the research project Social and Institutional Conditionality of Culture Development and Cultural Heritage Maintaining in the Regional Setting and its Exploitation for Effective Organisation of the Regional Cultural Activities. The main of the project was paid to research on relations between social, economic and political characteristics of the inhabitants and regional cultural distinctiveness; research on relations between characteristics of the institutions supporting or organising cultural activities, public administration particularly, as well as non-profit and private sector organisations, and impact of their activity on culture development, on cultural heritage accessibility and local democracy deepening; research on openness of these institutions toward themselves and toward general public, research on the practices supporting public participation in planning, organisation and realisation of cultural activities. In the last stage of the project, Methodology for creation of conceptual documents for culture development and tourism support using participatory approaches was developed. Zpráva shrnuje výsledky řešení výzkumného projektu Sociální a institucionální podmíněnost rozvoje kultury a uchování kulturního dědictví v regionálním prostředí a její využití v efektivnější organizaci kulturních aktivit regionu. Projekt se zaměřil zejména na výzkum souvislostí sociálních, ekonomických a politických charakteristik obyvatel a kulturních specifik regionu; výzkum souvislostí mezi charakteristikami institucí podporujících nebo organizujících kulturní aktivity, především institucí veřejné správy, ale i organizací neziskového a soukromého sektoru, a dopadem jejich činnosti na rozvoj kulturních aktivit, zpřístupnění kulturního dědictví a na prohloubení demokratických procesů v krajích a obcích; výzkum otevřenosti uvedených institucí vůči sobě navzájem a také vůči veřejnosti, výzkumem praktik podporujících účast veřejnosti v plánování, organizaci a realizaci kulturních aktivit. V rámci poslední etapy výzkumu byla vytvořena Metodika tvorby koncepčních dokumentů pro rozvoj kultury a podporu cestovního ruchu s využitím participativních přístupů.

Research report summarizes the results of an on-line survey conducted in the spring of 2014 on ICT Prague in the frame of the FP7 project TRIGGER. The survey, which included technical and administrative staff, focused on working conditions and gender equality at ICT. Výzkumná zpráva shrnuje výsledky on-line dotazníkové šetření provedeného na jaře 2014 na VŠCHT Praha v rámci mezinárodního projektu 7. rámcového projektu TRIGGER. Dotazníkové šetření, které zahrnovalo technické a administrativní pracovníky a pracovnice, se zaměřilo na otázky pracovních podmínek a genderové rovnosti na VŠCHT.

In September survey CVVM investigated how people trust to political Parties and whether they are willing to take part in elections to Chamber of Deputies. In the press release there are two different types of information: Party preference and a model of voting behaviour. Party preferences give us information about public sympathy with political Parties in the group of citizens who have voting right and there is also included a part of citizens who will not take part in elections or they do not knot who to vote for. V šetření realizovaném v září CVVM tradičně zjišťovalo podporu politických stran ve veřejnosti a ochotu zúčastnit se parlamentních voleb. V tiskové zprávě jsou publikovány dva odlišné typy informací: stranické preference a volební model. Stranické preference vypovídají o sympatiích k politickým stranám v souboru všech občanů s volebním oprávněním, tj. i těch, kteří k volbám nepůjdou nebo nevědí, koho by volili.

In September 2014 CVVM SOÚ AV ČR investigated whether respondents trust to selected top politicians. They were given a list with 27 names of top politicians. In a survey there were included names of membres of Parliament, president, chairmen of Senate and Chamber of Deputies, leaders of political parties in Parliament and chief of Constitutional Court CVVM Sociologického ústavu AV ČR, v.v.i. v zářijovém šetření zjišťovalo, zda dotázaní důvěřují vybraným vrcholným politikům. Předložený seznam tentokrát obsahoval jména sedmadvaceti čelných ústavních činitelů. Do výzkumu byli zařazeni prezident, předseda Senátu, předseda Poslanecké sněmovny, členové vlády, předsedové parlamentních politických stran, ombudsmanka, guvernér ČNB a předseda Ústavního soudu.

In June 2014 Public Opinion Research centre investigated, how Czech citizens evaluate material living conditions of their households and economic situation in the Czech Republic. During summer months of 2014 comparable surveys on this theme were carried out also in Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. V červnu 2014 CVVM zjišťovalo, jak občané hodnotí materiální životní podmínky svých domácností a ekonomickou situaci v zemi. Pod zastřešením CEORG byl výzkum na toto téma v letních měsících realizován též v Polsku, v Maďarsku a na Slovensku.

In October 2014 Public Opinion Research Centre's survey investigated views of Czech citizens on some social conditions. From all specific social conditions included in the survey people evaluate mostly positively only the accessibility of education (79% positively, 16% critically) and the health care (72% : 27%). Součástí říjnového šetření CVVM byla otázka zjišťující hodnocení možností, které nabízí naše společnost občanům v oblasti bydlení, finančního zabezpečení, zdravotní péče, vzdělávání a uplatnění na trhu práce.
