2018 - Czech In recent years, the number of people who are searching for their roots and compiling their pedigree is rising. They discover the names of their own direct ancestors, where they lived, what kind of work they were doing... Sometimes they are compiling a pedigree of famous personalities, actors, writers, artists. People compose also family chronicles or chronicles of the inhabitants of one houshold, a farmhouse where ancestors lived for some time. The motifs may be dissimilar: someone wants to get acquainted with the history of an ordinary person, another decides to compose a pedigree for their own children. Gathering information about ancestors brings family members closer together, intensifying communication between the elderly and the young. V posledních letech stoupá Česku počet lidí, kteří pátrají po svých kořenech a sestavují si svůj rodokmen. Zjišťují, jak se jmenovali jejich vlastní přímí předkové, kde žili, jaké pracovní činnosti je živily… Někdo zase sestavuje rodokmen známých osobností, herců, spisovatelů, umělců.\nPopulární je také sestavování rodinných kronik nebo kronik obyvatel jednoho domu, usedlosti, v nichž po určitý čas předkové žili.\nMotivy mohou být různé: někdo se chce seznámit s dějinami obyčejného člověka, jiný se zase rozhodne sestavit rodokmen pro své děti. Shromažďování informací o předcích sbližuje v rodinách členy jednotlivých generací, zintenzivní komunikaci mezi starými a mladými. Vocabulary of Old Czech Translation of the Coronation Order of Charles IV.

2018 - Czech The paper focuses on the Old Czech translation of the Coronation Order of Charles IV. The oldest surviving manuscript of the Czech translation of Charles's Coronation Order dates back to 1396 and seven other texts of the Czech translation from the 15th to the 16th centuries, contained in various manuscripts, have been preserved to this day. The paper describes the differences and changes of the Old Czech translation and appreciates the quality of the Old Czech version of this important work. Příspěvek se soustřeďuje na staročeský překlad významné písemné památky, a to korunovačního řádu Karla IV. Nejstarší dochovaný rukopis českého překladu Karlova korunovačního řádu je datován rokem 1396 a do dnešní doby se dochovalo ještě dalších sedm textů českého překladu z 15. až 16. století, obsažených v různých rukopisných sbornících. Language management on social networks: Language as a topic being discussed and as an index of the author’s social identity

2018 - Czech The paper deals with various language management types on Czech social media, namely on Twitter and Facebook. Having provided an overview of some common types of language management activities on the Czech internet, such as the activities of the so called “grammar Nazis”, the author focuses on a special type of language management, which includes writing and interpreting strikingly non-orthographic texts. This type of a playful and humorous management is based on the shared beliefs of the communicants that people of xenophobic, chauvinist etc. attitudes have poor competence in Czech spelling and in the Czech language generally. Příspěvek se zabývá různými druhy jazykového managementu uplatňovaného na sociálních sítích jejich uživateli, konkrétně na Twitteru a Facebooku. Všímá si mj. fenoménu tzv. Grammar Nazis, hlavním tématem je ale zvláštní typ managementu spojený s psaním a interpretací nápadně neortografických textů. Jde o hravý a humorný management, vycházející ze sdíleného přesvědčení komunikujících, že lidé s xenofobními, šovinistickými apod. postoji neovládají český pravopis a mají obecně slabé jazykové kompetence. There are f. e. names of persons (f. e. vrátný, pokojská), types of meat or drinks (f. e. kuřecí, plzeňské), names of biological families (psovití, hřibovité) etc. ranked among these nouns and some surnames (f. e. Černý) or geographic names (f. e. Deštné) as well. They are formed by adjectival suffixes and declined as adjectives Příspěvek je věnován substantivům v češtině, která jsou formálními adjektivy. The Emancipation of Czech as a Cultural Language during the Rule of Charles IV

2017 - Czech Under the rule of Charles IV, the Czech language system underwent a series of changes which instrumentally broadened it, enriched its function, and deepened its structure. Part of it was a reflection of the internal language development and part was caused by external circumstances of a cultural and historical nature. Impulses which emerged from the cultural, political, and social situation introduced by the style, goals, and results of Charles’ rule were pivotal for the entire language, its functions, and the means of expression. Během vlády Karla IV. prošel český jazykový systém řadou změn, které jej instrumentálně rozšiřovaly, funkčně obohacovaly a strukturně prohlubovaly. Část z nich byla projevem vnitřního vývoje jazyka, část vyvolaly vnější okolnosti kulturněhistorické povahy. Z hlediska celkového postavení jazyka, objemu funkcí, které plnil, a repertoáru vyjadřovacích prostředků byly pro tento vzestup klíčové podněty, které vyrůstaly z kulturní, politické a společenské situace navozené stylem, cíli a výsledky Karlova panování. Playwright Ladislav Stroupežnický: author of comedies (Naši furianti etc.) and historical plays

2017 - Czech The one work from the oeuvre of the first Czech realistic playwright that continues to be staged to this day is the comedy Naši furianti; the principal value of this comedy is that it introduced to the stage a realistic picture of a typical Czech village and the life of ordinary village people in the second half of the 19th century. One of the major features of the comic dialogues between the overly confident fellows (furianti) is realistic language: Stroupežnický endowed his villagers with a real combination of common Czech (obecná čeština) and words typical of regions in south-western Bohemia, with one of the characters speaking the dialect associated with the Chodsko region. Stroupežnický’s other play set in his own day whose characters are characterized by realistic descriptions and distinctive language features is Václav Hrobčický z Hrobčic (with language characterizing the dramatis personae and the social differences among them). In his two historical comedies, Zvíkovský rarášek and Paní mincmistrová, Stroupežnický, having been inspired by reading Paměti (Memoirs) by the Renaissance scholar Mikuláš Dačický z Heslova (1555–1626), made an interesting attempt at stylizing the Czech language as it was used in Dačický’s day. Z díla prvního českého realistického dramatika dosud žije hlavně veselohra Naši furianti; její význam spočívá především v tom, že zde byl na jevišti poprvé představen reálný obraz české vesnice, života prostých venkovanů ve 2. polovině 19. století. Komické dialogy „furiantů“ se vyznačují i jazykovým realismem – dramatik vložil do úst svých vesničanů reálnou kombinaci obecné češtiny a některých jihozápadočeských regionalismů; jedna z postav je navíc nositelkou chodského dialektu. Prostřednictvím realistických popisů i prostřednictvím osobitého vyjadřování jsou charakterizovány také postavy v další hře ze Stroupežnického současnosti, v dramatu Václav Hrobčický z Hrobčic (řeč postav tu vystihuje i sociální rozdíly mezi nimi). V historických veselohrách Zvíkovský rarášek a Paní mincmistrová se dramatik – inspirován četbou Pamětí Mikuláše Dačického z Heslova, renesančního vzdělance (žil v letech 1555–1626) – pokusil o zajímavou stylizaci dobového jazyka. Spoken Urban Language of Czech, Equalizing Processes in Traditional Dialects.

2017 - Czech Next to the complex view capturing the geographic differentiation of the traditional Czech dialects, Czech dialectologists turn their attention also to equalizing language processes that manifest themselves above all in the spoken urban language. Their research follows the program paper Ke zkoumání městské mluvy (On Research of Urban Speech, 1962) by the eminent Czech linguist Jaromír Bělič. On the one hand, the urban speech of Czech is described in monographs, on the other hand, the research results are presented in the Czech Linguistic Atlas (1992–2011) and in the arising Dictionary of Czech Dialects. A great amount of language material is concentrated in the corpuses of spoken language. Vedle komplexního zachycení územní diferenciace tradičních českých nářečí obrací čeští dialektologové svou pozornost též na nivelizační jazykové pocesy, které se projevují především v mluvě měst. Ve svých výzkumech navazují na programovou stať významného českého lingvisty Jaromíra Běliče Ke zkoumání městské mluvy (1962). V českém jazykovém prostředí městskou mluvu popisují jednak dílčí monografie, jednak jsou výsledky výzkumu představeny v Českém jazykovém atlase (1992–2011), ve vznikajícím Slovníku nářečí českého jazyka a v korpusech mluveného jazyka.
