INIS: Nuclear Grey Literature Repository

As one of the world's largest collections of published information on the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology, INIS represents an extraordinary example of world cooperation. Current membership includes 130 countries and 24 international organizations. 154 INIS members share and allow access to their valuable nuclear information resources, preserving them for future generations and offering a freely available nuclear knowledge repository. The presentation will give an overview of INIS role, information sharing activities, ways of nuclear knowledge organization and capacity building. It will also discuss some technological trends, current challenges and future developments. INIS, jedna z největších světových kolekcí zveřejněných informací o mírovém využití jaderné vědy a jaderných technologií, představuje mimořádný příklad mezinárodní spolupráce. Aktuálně na INISu participuje 130 států a 24 mezinárodních organizací. 154 členů INIS sdílí a zpřístupňuje své cenné informační zdroje z oblasti jaderné energie, stará se o archivaci těchto zdrojů a jejich zachování pro budoucí generace. Prezentace poskytne přehled funkcí databáze INIS, možnosti sdílení informací, způsoby organizace znalostí v databázi a plán na posílení kapacit. Příspěvek také upozorní na některé technologické trendy, současné problémy a budoucí vývoj INIS.

10 years with grey literature at Tomas Bata University in Zlín

The Library of Tomas Bata University in Zlín has been working on accessioning academic grey literature systematically for the last 10 years. During this time, one of the first information systems storing theses and dissertations changed from a closed, manually updated system into a fully automated and fully open repository with a number of integrations with both internal and external systems. New types of documents were added and several services were introduced for working with grey literature effectively. This contribution will describe its current state and outline the hurdles encountered getting there. Knihovna Univerzity Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně se již 10 let systémově zabývá problematikou zpřístupňování akademické šedé literatury. Během této doby se jedno z prvních uložišť kvalifi kačních prací změnilo z uzavřeného, ručně aktualizovaného systému na plně automatizovaný a zcela otevřený repozitář s množstvím interakcí s vnitřním i vnějším prostředím. Přibyly nové typy dokumentů a byla představena řada nadstavbových služeb pro efektivní práci s šedou literaturou. Příspěvek bude založen na popisu současného stavu s nastíněním křižovatek k němu vedoucích.

Challenges in Providing Unpublished Research Data in Biomedical Engineering to Grey Literature Repositories

Regardless of the scientific field or focus, every researcher produces during his or her career a multitude of unpublished research data such as laboratory diaries, grant proposals, images etc. Although making such data more accessible undoubtedly has value for researchers, they are currently not shared in open repositories. Why are researchers still reluctant to actively use grey literature repositories for unpublished contextual materials and data? Authors will discuss how scientists might be encouraged to add such material to grey literature repositories and specific examples of unpublished research data will be shown in connection to model scientifi c project. Bez ohledu na zaměření či oblast výzkumu, každý vědec v průběhu své kariéry produkuje velké množství různorodých výstupů – laboratorní deníky, grantové zprávy, obrazové výstupy apod. Přestože jejich zpřístupnění by přineslo značné výhody celé vědecké obci, nejsou tyto materiály běžně dostupné. Z jakého důvodu se proto vědci stále zdráhají aktivně využívat repozitářů šedé literatury pro sdílení odborných materiálů? Autorky budou diskutovat možnosti povzbuzení vědecké komunity ke sdílení různorodých výstupů v repozitářích a konkrétními ukázkami vědeckého využití šedé literatury na vlastním výzkumném projektu.

The role of academic library in disseminating grey literature – a case study: Adam Mickiewicz University Repository

One of the main and crucial strategic projects that any university, or an institution of higher learning, has been recently involved in is the creation and development of an institutional repository. The AMUR repository as an open web-based archive of scholarly material originated in 2010 and has aggregated a collection of more than 11,000 diverse digital objects. This paper presents the types of documents that have been archived in the repository, focusing in particular on unconventional (grey) literature. The following key elements are presented: standards for metadata, archiving rules that specify the criteria for the type of data to be archived, access mode to specific resources and the purpose and structure of deposit licences for the AMUR institutional repository. In addition, the language coverage (Polish, official congress languages and other languages) as well as chronological range of the grey literature deposited with the repository are briefly discussed. Jedním z hlavních a rozhodujících strategických projektů jakékoliv univerzity nebo instituce zajišťující vyšší vzdělání, je v současnosti vytváření a rozvoj institucionálních repozitářů. Repozitář AMUR vznikl jako otevřený webový archiv univerzitních materiálů v roce 2010 a shromažďuje více než 11 000 různých digitálních objektů. Příspěvek popisuje typy dokumentů archivovaných v repozitáři se zaměřením na netradiční šedou literaturu. Rovněž budou prezentovány klíčové prvky repozitáře: metadatové standardy, pravidla pro archivaci, která stanoví kritéria pro jednotlivé typy dat, která mají být archivována, režim přístupu ke specifi ckým zdrojům a licenční politiku institucionálního repozitáře Amur. Kromě toho bude krátce zmíněno i zastoupení jazyků (polština, ofi ciální kongresové jazyky a další jazyky) a časové rozložení šedé literatury uložené v repozitáři

Making data in PhD dissertations reusable for research

How can an academic library contribute to make data submitted together with PhD dissertations useful for further research? Our paper provides some recommendations for information professionals, based on a review of studies and projects and on empirical evidence from a content analysis of data sources and types from 300 print and digital dissertations in social sciences and humanities (1987–2013) and a survey on data management conducted with more than 300 scientists and PhD students in April and May 2015 on the Lille campus. Jak může akademická knihovna přispět k tomu, aby byla data odevzdávaná jako součást doktorských disertačních prací znovu využitelná pro výzkum? Tento příspěvek poskytne několik doporučení pro informační profesionály. Doporučení jsou založena na zhodnocení studií, projektů a empirických důkazů získaných pomocí obsahové analýzy zdrojů a typů dat z 300 tištěných i digitálních disertací z oblasti sociálních a humanitních věd (1987-2013) a také na základě průzkumu managementu dat, kterého se zúčastnilo přes 300 vědců a Ph.D. studentů z Univerzity v Lille v dubnu a květnu 2015.

Metodika má za cíl umožnit kvantitativní vyhodnocení dezinfekčního účinku par esenciálních olejů na spory plísní ukotvených na různých druzích substrátů. Knihy ve sbírkách jsou složeny z řady různých materiálů, které ovlivňují účinnost dezinfekčních prostředků, proto nestačí vykonat jednoduché testy na agaru nebo skle.

Cílem metodiky je na základě získaných vědomostí, tj. empirických poznatků i teoretických znalostí o jevech souvisejících s interakcemi papírová hmota - páry esenciálních olejů, shrnout zásady a vypracovat postupy, jak tyto látky nebo jejich uměle připravené analogy používat, aby jejich aplikace pro zabránění mikrobiologického rozkladu papírových artefaktů byla maximálně efektivní s minimálními negativními dopady na papírové artefakty.

Repository workflow for interlinking research data with grey literature

Publishing data is more and more considered as part of the research process. While funder mandates and journal policies demand the disclosure of research data at the time of article publication there is still a lack of guidelines and workflows to reference data from grey literature. Based on multidisciplinary examples found in our repository “PUB” we present a user friendly generalized framework for interlinking research data with grey literature. This way, we are not only increasing the number of “grey” non-textual research outputs – including data publications – but also foster awareness of its sharing and re-use in scientific communities. Publikování dat z výzkumu je stále více považováno za součást výzkumného procesu. Zatímco pro publikování dat, která souvisí s publikovanými články, existují nařízení a doporučení od poskytovatelů podpory a vydavatelů časopisů, stále pociťujme nedostatek pravidel k publikování dat spojených se šedou literaturou. V příspěvku bude popsán uživatelsky přívětivý generalizovaný rámec (návod) pro prolinkování výzkumných dat se šedou literaturou, který je založen na multioborových příkladech z repozitáře PUB. Díky tomuto systému se jednak zvyšuje počet "šedých" ne-textových výstupů z výzkumu – včetně publikovaných dat – jednak se i zvyšuje sdílení a opětovné využití těchto výstupů vědeckou komunitou.

From an institutional repository to the Base of Knowledge – case study

The Warsaw University of Technology Base of Knowledge it is not only an institutional repository but also a good place to promote the scientific activities of the University staff. Unquestionable benefit of this Base is that it allows to present not only published papers but also collect e.g.: patents and projects documentations, professional activities of our staff and students dissertations. The paper presents the advantages of the system which combines functions of a repository and the Base of Knowledge functions. Znalostní báze Varšavské technologické univerzity není pouze institucionálním repozitářem, ale slouží také jako podpora vědeckých aktivit univerzitních zaměstnanců. Nesporným benefi tem této báze je, že dovoluje ukládat a prezentovat nejen publikované příspěvky, ale také např. patenty, projektové dokumentace a jiné výsledky profesních aktivit zaměstnanců univerzity a studentské disertace. Příspěvek prezentuje výhody tohoto systému, ve kterém jsou zkombinovány funkce klasického repozitáře a funkce báze znalostí.
