Interspecific and seasonal changes in epidermal structure of Carassius gibelio x Cyprinus carpio hybrids
Halačka, Karel; Vetešník, Lukáš
2014 - Czech
Morphology of epidermis Carassius gibelio and Cyprinus carpio shows specific differences in dependence on both sexual activity (reduction epidermal thickness in spawning period) and given species (epidermal thickness and prevalance of single types of secretory cells). Epidermis of hybrids shows similar seasonal changes as parental species, its structure was similar to epidermis of C. carpio.

Ichthyological monitoring of the Hamry water reservoir in the year 2014
Jurajda, Pavel
2014 - Czech
This study, which has been running since 2008, examines the use of the Hamry Water Reservoir as a model for fish community biomanipulation studies with the aim of improving water quality. Of primary interest to the Reservoir administrators, the Elbe River Basin authority s.p., is the maintenance of high water quality for drinking purposes, thereby preventing conflict of interest with multiple stakeholders. In addition, the study aims to determine whether biomanipulation of fish communities can be undertaken effectively in a reservoir.

2014 - Czech
The project monitoring the growth of tagged two-season-old common carp (K2) being stocked into the selected reservoirs managed by the Moravian Angler Association was initiated in 2001 in the reservoir of Nové Mlýny. Few other reservoirs, namely the Dalešická, Brněnská, Vranovská and Letovická, were then also studied in course of the following period up today. The altitude of investigated reservoirs ranges 171-382 m a.s.l., the flooded area of water bodies 104-1600 hectares. The stocking series in every of reservoirs were performed in the course of subsequent five years and two thousands of tagged carps (K2) were always yearly stocked in every of reservoirs. In total, 50 335 (17.61 inds per hectare) tagged carps have been stocked and 1361 individuals (0.48 inds per hectare) were recaptured and reported by the anglers. The mean recapture rate of tagged fish reached thus 2.70 % (1.02 - 4.74 %). A significant negative relationship was also ascertained of altitude (in m a.s.l.) and growth indices. The maximum growth rate was found in the Novomlýnská reservoir (mean annual weight increment 1725 g). Gradually lower weight increments were found out in the Vranovská reservoir (1064 - 1200 g), Dalešická R. (1050 g), Brněnská R. (1070 g) and Letovická R. (630 g). A similar sequence existed also in growth of other parameters studied, i.e. total length (TL), specific growth rate (SGR), and weight condition expressed by means of the Fulton condition factor (FCF). On the basis of these results, some new, more convenient, rules were suggested for stocking of common carp.

Pilot study on the efficient use of ponds greater than 100 hectares
Mrkvová, Markéta; Jurajda, Pavel; Adámek, Zdeněk; Zukal, Jan
2014 - Czech
Fish distribution in carp ponds tends to be uneven as fish prefer those parts nearer the feeding sites. As such, carp usually only occupy around two thirds of the pond area. Compared with more remote parts of the pond, control sampling campaigns showed the regular occurrence of significantly larger fish at the feeding sites. Further, fish located on the feeding sites consumed cereals almost exclusively, whilst those outside the feeding sites grazed predominantly on zooplankton. Environmental parameters at the feeding sites differed from those in the surrounding area, particularly in relation to the post-feeding period. We recommend that fish farmers both increase the size of feeding sites and alternate feeding at different sites in an effort to spread the fish stock over the whole pond area, thereby better utilising natural food resources. Projekt přinesl doporučení rybářské praxi spočívající v rozšíření rozsahu a střídání krmných míst s cílem docílit lepšího rozptýlení obsádky po celé ploše rybníka a tím i lepšího využití přirozených potravních zdrojů.

Application of genetic methods for the detection of deer origin and existence of interspecific hybridization
Krojerová-Prokešová, Jarmila; Barančeková, Miroslava; Koubek, Petr
2014 - Czech
Hybridization between native red deer and non-native sika deer is a real threat in the Czech Republic, even though its existence has been questioned for a long time. The main cause of hybrids’ non-acceptance has been the fact that no reliable methods of their detection exist until recently. However, the application of modern molecular-genetic methods, mainly the analyses of microsatellite loci polymorphism, helps us to detect the proportion of hybrid individuals in wild populations and to establish necessary management measures for their elimination. Most importantly, the usage of molecular-genetic methods enables to detect hybrid individuals of next generations that bear no visible phenotypic signs of previous hybridisation. Aplikování molekulárně-genetických metod, především využití mikrosatelitových markerů, by nám mělo pomoci určit celkový podíl hybridních jedinců v populaci a stanovit příslušná opatření k jejich eliminaci. Právě využití molekulární genetiky totiž umožňuje odhalit i hybridní jedince dalších generací, kteří již navenek nenesou žádné fenotypové znaky po předcházejícím mezidruhovém křížení.

The structure of zooplankton in diet of common bream (Abramis brama) during biomanipulation
Zapletal, T.; Špaček, J.; Jurajda, Pavel; Všetičková, Lucie
2014 - Czech
The structure of zooplankton in diet of common bream (Abramis brama) was analysed in the Hamry water supply reservoir during the period 2011-2014. Fish were captured by gill netting, beach seining and electrofishing in the littoral part of reservoir. Minimum twenty specimens of each size group were taken for analysis on each sampling occasion. Zooplankton in the diet of adult bream SL 210-315 mm and subadult SL 124-186 mm made recedent proportion. Juvenile bream (0+) SL 18-51 mm consumed zooplankton only. Daphnia galeata was dominant there. We found that decrease of cladoceran communities in the water supply reservoir might to cohere (related) with this specific feeding activity of bream's fry and the feeding competition of bream's and perch's fry in it's habitats.
