Overview of the effects of selected dietary supplements on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases

The article is an overview of selected studies that dealt with the effects of long-term administration of certain dietary supplements,\nwhich are assumed to positively influence the prevention and treatment of the most serious non-communicable (chronic) diseases, which are currently mainly cardiovascular disease. Only in our country, heart diseases have been the cause of death for a long time\nalmost two-thirds of people. \nThe aim of this study was to show that despite the popularity and mass distribution of dietary supplements, their health benefits are questionable.\n Sdělení je přehledem vybraných studií, které se zabývaly účinky dlouhodobějšího podávání některých doplňků stravy,\no nichž se předpokládá, že pozitivně ovlivňují prevenci a léčbu nejzávažnějších nesdělných (chronických) onemocnění, což jsou\nv současné době především onemocnění kardiovaskulární. Jenom u nás jsou srdeční onemocnění už dlouhodobě příčinou smrti\ntéměř dvou třetin lidí.\nCílem tohoto sdělení bylo ukázat, že navzdory popularitě a masovému rozšíření doplňků stravy jsou jejich zdravotní přínosy\nsporné.

Effect of a cultivar and thermal treatment of seeds in selected vegetables at early growth phase on the sensitivity to infection by important fungal pathogens

The methodology is focused on the effect of selected factors on the development of important vegetable illnesses: Alternaria brassicicola dark leaf spot of cabbage, A. dauci carrot leaf blight, and Botrytis aclada onion neck rot and Peronospora destructor onion downy mildew. In the case of A. brassicicola, A. dauci and B. aclada, the plants in a defined stage of development were infected by the strains of fungal phytopathogens originating from acknowledged collections. In the case of P. destructor the plants were infected by a fungal strain obtained from a field plant culture massively affected by this phytopathogen. The effect of the cultivar used and of the seed thermal treatment on the development of the above given phytopathogens was investigated. It was found that, in the case of the cultivars used, the interpretation of the results had to include the factor of the cultivar´s earliness that was important with respect to the resistance to the fungal pathogens. Předkládaná metodika zahrnuje výsledky laboratorních experimentů, v nichž byl sledován vliv vybraných faktorů na rozvoj závažných chorob, za prvé na skvrnitost brukvovitých působenou patogenem Alternaria brassicicola u hlávkového zelí, za druhé na skvrnitost listů mrkve působenou patogenním mikroorganismem Alternaria dauci a za třetí na dvě závažné choroby cibule, krčkovou hnilobu cibule vyvolávanou mikroorganismem Botrytis aclada a plíseň cibule působenou patogenem Peronospora destructor. V případě A. brassicicola, A. dauci a B. aclada byly rostliny v definovaném stavu vývoje infikovány kmeny fytopatogenních hub získaných z renomovaných mezinárodních sbírek mikroorganismů. V případě P. destructor byly rostliny infikovány houbovým organismem získaným z polní kultury výrazně zasažené infekcí tímto fytopatogenem. Byl hodnocen vliv odrůdy a termického ošetření osiva na rozvoj uvedených patogenů. U zahrnutých odrůd je třeba při interpretaci dosažených výsledků přihlédnout k jejich ranosti, která je důležitým faktorem odolnosti odrůdy k houbovým patogenům.
