Relationship between early child temperament and adult personality: Preliminary results from forty years lasting study

The study deals with the prediction of adult personality from behaviors observed in the nursling and toddler stages. The sample consisted of 56 participants (22 men and 34 women aged from 38 to 42 years) who had taken part in the longitudinal research of children and agreed to participate in the follow-up study of adults. For description of child behavior the set of 34 rating scales was used during each testing session. Factor analysis with mean scores of rating scales for the age of 9 to 30 months yielded 3 factors: positive affectivity, negative affectivity, and disinhibition. Child positive affectivity is connected to adult extraversion, emotional stability, agreeableness, and even predicts life satisfaction. Child negative affectivity is linked just with adult neuroticism. Disinhition is predictor of extraversion, conscientiousness and generalized self-efficacy. The findings support assumption that innate qualities provide matrix for formation of social cognitive components of personality Studie se zabývá možnostmi predikce osobnosti v dospělosti na základě dětského chování v kojeneckém a batolecím období. Soubor představuje 56 osob (22 mužů a 34 žen), které se zúčastnili longitudinálního výzkumu dětí které souhlasili s účastí v navazujícím výzkumu dospělých. Dětské chování bylo hodnoceno experimentátorem v průběhu vyšetření na 34 deskriptivních škálách. Pomocí faktorové analýzy na průměrných skórech vybraných škál pro věkové období od 9 do 30 měsíců jsme identifikovali tři dimenze dětského temperamentu: pozitivní afektivitu, negativní afektivitu a inhibici/disinhibici. Dětská pozitivní afektivita je spojena v dospělosti s extraverzí, emocionální stabilitou a disinhibicí. Dětská negativní afektivita je spojena jen s neuroticismem v dospělosti. Disinhibice predikuje extravrzi, svědomitost a generalizované self-efficacy. Zjištění podporují předpoklad, že vrozené kvality poskytují terén pro formaci sociálně kognitivních komponent osobnosti.

This report resumes results of the research about the efficacy of aid, which was provided to the victims of flood in the Czech Republic in 2002. Introductory chapter includes survey of knowledges about catastrophical events, human reactions to these events, and about the organizational and providing principles for help by these events. Next chapters pursue results of the qualitative research of the workers view to the flood and important and critical moments in aid providing, and of quantitative research of flood (including aid) nursing from the view of victims. Special part of the report pursue the image of one from the aid providers ů assigner of the project, Czech Caritas ů in printed media. Project was realized in cooperation with Czech Caritas and by financial contributing of German Caritas (DCV). Zpráva shrnuje výsledky výzkumu efektivity pomoci poskytované obětem povodní, které zasáhly značnou část ČR v roce 2002. Úvodní teoretická kapitola obsahuje přehled poznatků o katastrofických událostech, reakcích na ně a zásadách organizace a poskytování pomoci. Další kapitoly jsou věnovány výsledkům kvalitativního výzkumu obrazu povodňových událostí a důležitých či kritických momentů v poskytování pomoci z perspektivy pomáhajících a kvantitativního šetření prožívání povodňových událostí včetně poskytované pomoci z perspektivy obětí. Zvláštní oddíl je věnován obrazu jednoho z poskytovatelů pomoci a zadavatele projektu ů České katolické charity ů v tištěných médiích. Projekt byl realizován ve spolupráci s Českou katolickou charitou za finančního přispění Německé katolické charity (DCV).

Determinants of coping: personality, appraisal, self-concept

The study tested three groups of factors of coping - appraisal of situation, personality and self-concept factors. Behavior in load, stressfull situations was measured by CSI - Coping Strategy Inventory. We found that the most influencing factor of appraisal situation was factor changeable/unchangeable, it is related to coping strategies expressing emotions, social support, cognitive restructuring and wishful thinking. The most influencing factor of personality was extraversion: expressing emotions, social support, cognitive restructuring and social withdrawal and of self-concept it is self-concept clarity, it is related to coping strategies expressing emotions, social withdrawal, wishful thinking and self-criticism. V naší práci jsme se zabývali třemi skupinami proměnných, a to vnímání charakteristikami situace (appraisal), dispozicemi chování ve smyslu rysů osobnosti a proměnnými sebepojetí chování v zátěžové situaci, a to z hlediska sebehodnocení, vědomí vlastní účinnosti a jasnosti sebepojetí, jakožto determinantami výběru strategií zvládání zátěžových situací. Z vnímaných charakteristik situace ovlivňuje chování v zátěžové situaci nejvíce ovlivnitelnost, je spojena se strategiemi kognitivní restrukturace, vyjadřování emocí, fantazijní únik a sociální izolace. Z rysů osobnosti dle modelu Big Five ovlivňuje chování v zátěžové situaci nejvíce rys extraverze, je spojena se strategiemi kognitivní restrukturace, vyjadřování emocí, vyhledávání sociální podpory a sociální izolace. Z charakteristik sebepojetí ovlivňuje chování nejvíce self-concept clarity: je spojena s vyjadřováním emocí, fantazijním únikem, sebeobviňováním a sociální izolací.

Personality resources of coping with pain: gender differences

Study is aimed at gender differences in personality resources of coping with chronic pain. The research was done with the sample of patients, which were undergoing treatment of chronic pain (N=150, 50 male an 100 female). Respondents evaluated their capability to influence level of perceived pain on the seven-point rating scale, personality was measured by the means of Eysenck's Personality Inventory and Freiburg Personality Inventory. In male the capability to influence level of perceived pain is connected with low level of impulsive as well as reactive aggression and with low level of excitableness. In female the capability to influence level of perceived pain is related positively to moderateness, openness, and psychoticism and negatively to neuroticism. Studie se zabývá rodovými rozdíly v osobnostních předpokladech zvládání chronické bolesti. Výzkum byl proveden u souboru osob léčících se chronickou bolestí (N=150, 50 mužů a 100 žen). Schopnost ovlivnit míru percipované bolesti hodnotili respondenti na sedmibodové škále, osobnostní vlastnosti byly měřeny dotazníky EPQ a FPI. Schopnost ovlivnit míru percipované bolesti je u mužů spojena především s nízkou mírou spontánní a reaktivní agresivity a dále snízkou mírou vzrušivosti. U žen přispívá ke schopnosti kontrolovat vlastní bolest mírnost, otevřenost a psychoticismus, zatímco nervozita a neuroticismus kontrolu bolesti snižují.
