Book of Abstracts: 17th International Conference on the Strength of Materials

The Book of Abstracts covers twelve exciting scientific topics addressed by the International Conference on the Strength of Materials 17 (ICSMA 17). Eight excellent plenary speakers were selected based on the discussion and vote within the International Committee of ICSMA. The topics include not only traditional areas like cyclic or high temperature deformation and scale-bridging modeling but also still growing subjects of nano-micro scale experiments and the strength of biological systems. Moreover, the Local Organizing Committee, in cooperation with the Department of Materials Physics, Charles University in Prague, has decided to highlight the 80th anniversary of Prof. Pavel Lukáč, a brilliant international teacher and scientist. The thirteenth topic of the ICSMA 17 is thus dedicated to honour his contribution to materials research. Altogether, the Book presents 376 abstracts evenly distributed among the individual research areas that entered the scope of the conference.

The XVI International Colloquium on Mechanical Fatigue of Metals was organized by the Institute of Physics of Materials, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno, in September 24-26, 2012. The Colloquium has been opened to participants from all countries interested in the subject of fatigue of metallic materials. The proceedings contains 39 abstracts of 35 oral and of 4 poster contributions by 122 authors from 18 countries to be presented during the Colloquium.

A Mid-Term Conference of the COST Action P19: Multiscale Modeling of Materials (Book of Abstracts)

Konference se zúčastnilo 62 účastníků z 19 zemí (mimoevropské státyz byly representovány Indií, USA a Novým Zélandem), kteří presentovali 56 orálních příspěvků (včetně dvou plenárních a 14 zvaných přednášek) a 7 plakátových sdělení. Konference přinesla přehled současného stavu oboru a přispěla k navázání nových osobních kontaktů a vědeckých spoluprací. Prof. Mojmír Šob was entrusted with organization of the Mid-Term Conference of the COST Action P19: Multiscale Modelling of Materials in Brno, June 25-28, 2008. The conference took place at the Institute of Physics of Materials of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno and was attended by 62 participants from 19 countries (non-European countries were represented by India, USA and New Zealand), who presented 56 oral contributions (including 2 key-note lectures and 14 invited talks) and 7 posters. The conference surveyed the present state of this research field and promoted establishing new personal contacts and scientific collaborations.
