Archeozoological analysis of finds from an excavation of the town fortification moat (?) in Šumperk

Bones from fortification moat were analysed. The moat was dated to 15. – 17. Century. Here were found bones from domestic and wild animals. The most remains belong to animals which were breed for meal, milk and wool.

Horizon findings in a Period of Marcomannic wars on the example Samian ware from Hradisko near Mušov

The article presents the file of Samian ware from the locality Hradisko near Mušov found till 2006. The biggest part of the Samian ware originates from Central Gaulish (59,1 %), only 11,4 % representing the oldest period production of Rheinzabern. The majority of Central Gaulish pottery was made after the year 150/160 A.D. Samian ware by Cerialis II (Rheinzabern), which was manufactured after the year 175 A.D. is significant for dating the locality Hradisko near Mušov. Článek pojednává o zpracování terry sigillaty nalezené na lokalitě Hradisko u Mušova do roku 2006. Nejpočetnější jsou výrobky ze střední Gallie (59,1 %), v menší míře se vyskytuje terra sigillata z nejstarší fáze výroby hrnčířské dílny v Rheinzabernu (11,4 %). Většina středogalských výrobků byla vyrobena po roce 150/160 n.l., podstatný pro datování lokality Hradisko u Mušova je přítomnost mistra Cerialise II (Rheinzabern), jehož výrobky se začínají vyskytovat až po roce 175 n.l.

Overview of new rockshelter sites and radiocarbon datings that complete the previous ideas on the Bohemian Switzerland Mesolithic. In addition, there is a discussion of Mesolithic lifestyles (hunting, fishing – namely of salmons, diversification of the settlement structure along the two main rivers, Kamenice and Křinice). Přehled nových skalních převisů a radiokarbonových datování, které doplňují dosavadní obraz mezolitu Českého Švýcarska. Doplněny jsou úvahy o způsobu života v mezolitu (lov, rybolov – zvláště lov lososů, členění sídelní struktury podél dvou toků, Kamenice a Křinice).

Roman temporary camp and new finds from the Roman Period in Charvátská Nová Ves

In year 2006 during the testing phase of a predictive model project (Institute of Archaeology and Museology, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University) were encountered traces of the Germanic activities in vicinity of the Roman temporary camp in Charvátská Nová Ves. Using the method of geological probing it was possible to spatially specify exact position of the temporary camp, discovered previously during the aerial survey. The probing also provided information for buildup of simple profile of temporary camp ditch. V roce 2006 bylo v rámci testovací fáze projektu prediktivního modelování (Ústav archeologie a muzeologie FF MU) zjištěny stopy germánských aktivit v blízkosti již dříve objeveného římského krátkodobého tábora v Charvátské Nové Vsi. Zároveň byly zpřesněny polohové informace o táboře prostřednictvím pedologických sondáží, které poskytly podklad pro sestavení jednoduchého profilu příkopu tábora.

Minor medieval fortifications in Skorošice, near Javorník

In this contribution, the authors asses what little remains of minor medieval fortifications (motts) in the cadastre of the village of Skorošice in Czech Silesia. There are no written records of the two fortifications, only sparse archaeological finds. These enable the dating of the constructions to the 14th century; they did not last long and probably did not survive the Hussite military campaign in Silesia in 1428 (?). Autoři ve svém příspěvku hodnotí dnes již neexistující drobná středověká opevnění na katastru vsi Skorošice v českém Slezsku. K oběma fortifikacím chybí jakékoliv písemné prameny, k dispozici jsou pouze nečetné nálezy archeologické. Ty dovolují položit vznik těchto objektů do průběhu 14. století, když jejich trvání nebylo dlouhé a nejspíše nepřežily husitské tažení do Slezska v roce 1428 (?).

The study examines changes of the settlement pattern during the first four centuries A. D. Interpreting the discontinuity of the sites as an archaeological reflection of their succesive extinction attemts to place it in the wider context of historical events from the Marcomannics wars in 2. century A. D. to the beginning of the Migrations Period at the end of 4. century. Studie zkoumá změny sídlištních struktur v průběhu prvních čtyř století n. l. Diskontinuitu sídlišť vysvětluje jako archeologický odraz jejich postupného zanikání, které se pokouší zasadit do širšího historického kontextu od období markomannských válek až do počátku doby stěhování národů.

The article introduces the POHAN DATA SERVER/PDS of the Institute of Archaelogy and Museology used to store documentation from the long-term excavations of the Institute of Archaeology and Museology at the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University. The data server is presented via a manual of instructions for its use which provides the reader with an overview of the server functionality and the efficiency of the solution as a whole. Článek seznamuje s datovým serverem Ústavu archeologie a muzeologie DATA SERVER/PDS, na kterém je ukládána dokumentace z dlouhodobých systematických výzkumů Ústavu archeologie a muzeologie FF MU. Datový server je prezentován formou manuálu k jeho obsluze, na jehož základě si čtenář může udělat kompletní obrázek o funkčnosti a efektivitě celého řešení.

Hradisko (Burgstall) at Mušov in the light of results of excavations in 1994-2007

The essay analyses archaeological structures founded at locality Hradisko at Mušov. Detailed analysis of the fortification and internal buildings and their comparison with parallels from the territory of roman provinces are accompanied with summary of historical and archaeological evidence of the dating of these objects. Testimonies of the objects of the internal buildings at Mušov, but also the fortification and the collection of finds show that the Roman installation occurring here has been the most important in the barbaricum at the time of the Marcomannic wars. It was not conceived as a classical camp for the accommodation of large military units. This praesidium has provided a sufficiently protected space for, inter alia, all the craftsmen activities required, for the storage and distribution of supplies, for the coordination of the troops operating in the broad surroundings and for the accommodation of high-ranking visitors. Studie je věnována rozboru archeologických struktur, nalezených na lokalitě Hradisko u Mušova. Detailní rozbory opevnění a vnitřní zástavby a jejich komparace s archeologickými strukturami z území římských provincií jsou doprovázeny shrnutím nejdůležitějších datujících historických a archeologických pramenů. Výpověď objektů vnitřní zástavby Mušova, ale i fortifikačního zařízení a nálezového souboru, ukazuje, že se zde nacházelo nejvýznamnější římské zařízení v době markomanských válek v barbariku. Nebyl koncipován jako klasický tábor pro ubytování velkých vojenských kontingentů. Toto praesidium poskytovalo dostatečně chráněný prostor mj. pro veškeré potřebné řemeslné aktivity, pro uskladnění a distribuci zásobování, pro koordinaci v širokém okolí operujících vojenských jednotek a pro ubytování mimořádně významných návštěvníků.

Burial rite of hunter DV 16 from paleontology and palaeoethnology point view

During the archaeological research, which was made at the locality Dolní Věstonice was uncovered a recessed hut. Compared to the rest of settlement the animals from this object are remarkably distinguishing. The bones of foxes, hares and wolves are closely concetrated to each other, so it seems that they were mostly in the anatomic position and that they are belonging to one individual. In addition these bones are constituing noticeable accumulations around the body of deceased. All animals were hunted in the early spring (February-April), which is resulting from the analysis of the seasonal increaments of the cementum on the roots of teeth. It seems that these animals were probably given to the deceased man, so they could indirectly show the time period of the hunter’s burial. Fauna nalezená v objektu chaty, kde byl pohřben lovec DV16 vykazuje několik nápadných odlišností od zbytku sídliště. Kosti zvířat jako lišek, zajíců a vlků jsou koncentrovány blízko sebe, což znamená, že kostry byly víceméně v anatomické poloze a dají se přiřadit k jednomu jedinci. Podle analýzy sezónních přírůstků cementu zubů bylo zjištěno, že zvířata pocházející z chaty byla ulovena během jedné sezóny a to brzy na jaře (únor-duben). Tyto skutečnosti, navíc korespondující s archeologickými poznatky, by mohly naznačovat rovněž dobu lovcova pohřbu, během kterého byla zvířata s největší pravděpodobností dána vcelku přímo k mrtvému muži.
