Logos liberal democracy?

The paper presents conceptual analyzes of liberal democracy. It shows that liberal democracy appears as harmonic association of different spheres and rights but it inside contains contradiction betwen democracy (collective decision) and liberal principle which emphasis constitutional personal rights. Misunderstanding of this distinction lead to confusion of democracy with liberal democracy. Práce ukazuje, že ačkoliv se často liberální demokracie prezentuje a obhajuje jako harmonicky skloubený celek, v její podstatě se nachází zásadní rozpor, běžně přehlížený. Tuto kontradikci nalezneme mezi principem demokratickým, který klade důraz na kolektivní rozhodování a principem liberálním, který staví na individuálních právech a osobním rozhodování. Právě neporozumění tomuto rozdílu vede ke směšování demokracie s liberální demokracií.

The Trade Contacts of Prague Burghers at the Turn of the 14th and 15th Century

The presented text explores the trade contacts between Prague and Bern, and other cities of the Swiss confederation. Precious metal was chiefly exported from the Czech Lands to the Swiss cantons and Swabia, whether in the form of minted silver coins or raw precious metal. Trade was mediated through Nuremberg merchants. The concrete case of several Prague burghers-merchants exemplifies their status in the city, their financial backgrounds, and the mercantile and monetary contacts that were often linked up with foreign commerce houses, the ruling court milieu or the credit possibilities of the Prague Jews. Although during the Hussite Wars (1419–1434), trade with the heretical Bohemia was restricted, the Imperial and Papal trade embargo was frequently bypassed. In the course of the Hussite Wars, a new wave of exportation of Bohemian art objects abroad took place in connection with the emigration of Catholics, where these objects were either sold or deposited by the refugees “for better times”. Thus, the exportation of Bohemian art abroad did not cease even during the Hussite Wars. Předkládaný příspěvek se zaměřuje na sledování obchodních kontaktů mezi Prahou a Bernem, případně dalšími švýcarskými městy. Z českých zemí byl do švýcarských kantonů a Švábska vyvážen především drahý kov, ať už v podobě ražených stříbrných mincí nebo nezpracovaného drahého kovu. Obchodní spojení šlo prostřednictvím norimberských kupců. Na konkrétním příkladu několika pražských měšťanů-kupců je ukázáno jejich postavení ve městě, finanční zázemí, obchodní a peněžní kontakty propojené často se zahraničními obchodními domy, panovnickým dvorským prostředím nebo úvěrovými možnostmi pražských Židů. Během husitských válek (1419–1434) sice došlo k podvázání obchodu s kacířskými Čechami, císařské a papežské obchodní embargo však bylo často obcházeno. V průběhu husitských válek také docházelo v souvislosti s emigrací katolíků k nové vlně exportu českých uměleckých předmětů do zahraničí, kde byly tyto předměty buďto prodávány, nebo uprchlíky deponovány „na lepší časy“. Ani během husitských válek tedy neustal export českého umění do zahraničí.

Ethics and the Politics of Truth. Hito Steyerl and Michel Foucault

The documentarist turn in visual art reintroduces the question of the relationship between a work of art and truth. However, rather than the truth of the work in the sense of mimesis or authenticity, it is the politics of truth. In a double entendre: documentary forms express power relationships but being themselves a political act they may represent resistance against the power relationships. This generally political approach to truth in art falls, in our opinion, within at least two philosophical-political traditions. The first is Marx and Marxism and the question of the relationship of a work of art to social circumstances. Regarding that Hito Steyerl explicitly espouses Michel Foucault, in step two we will try to refer the issue of the relationship between a work of art and truth to the three fundamental axes of Foucault’s thought — power, knowledge and the subject. Dokumentaristický obrat ve výtvarném umění znovu klade otázku o vztahu uměleckého díla a pravdy. Nejde však o pravdu díla ve smyslu mimesis nebo autenticity, nýbrž o politiku pravdy. A to v dvojím smyslu: dokumentární formy jednak vyjadřují vládnoucí mocenské poměry, jednak díky tomu, že samy o sobě představují politické činy, mohou představovat odpor vůči těmto poměrům. Tento obecně politický přístup k pravdě umění zapadá podle nás minimálně do dvou filosoficko-politických tradic. První je Marx a marxismus a otázka vztahu díla ke společenským poměrům. Vzhledem k tomu, že Hito Steyerl se explicitně hlásí k Michelu Foucaultovi, pokusíme se, v druhém kroku, vztáhnout otázku vztahu díla a pravdy k třem základním osám Foucaultova myšlení — k moci, vědění a subjektu.

Unconditional Basic Income. The Tool for Elimination of Social Accidents

The paper introduces a conception of Universal basic income. First part presents its traits and historical roots. Next part concentrates on an issue of moral argument for implementing basic income. And the last, main, section focuses on six of features of basic income supporting of elimination of social accidents. Příspěvek představuje myšlenku Nepodmíněného základního příjmu a ukazuje, jak může přispět ke snížení sociálních dopadů různých druhů nahodilostí ve společnosti. Nejprve jsou prezentovány hlavní rysy NZP a jeho odlišnost od současných podmíněných dávek. Dále je rozebrána morální obhajoba základního příjmu a to v klasické koncepci Thomase Paina i její moderní podobě u Van Parijse. V následné, hlavní části příspěvku, je představeno šest rysů, kterými může přispět základní příjem ke snížení sociálních rizik ve společnosti.

Britain and the U.S. relatively easily influenced by a systematic propaganda of disinformation aimed against democratic civilization. Klíčový geopolitický prostor mezi Německem a Ruskem si včetně Německa a Ruska zatím nevytvořil solidní demokratickou politickou kulturu. Proto je oproti např. Británii a USA poměrně snadno ovlivnitelný soustavnou dezinformační propagandou zaměřenou proti demokratické civilizaci.

The Dominican Convent (founded 1267/1290) formed together with the Hospital of The Holy Spirit (1289) of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, two religious institutions that enriched the religious and cultural life of Klatovy in a completely different way. In the Late of the Middle Ages, when a big part of Europe was affected by the Black Death, the plague epidemy (1347-1363) and the Papal schism (1383-1417), the Dominican Order was in serious crises (1350-1417), not only in the religious discipline, but also in the overall decline of studies, we can say – according to the conserved documents – that the Dominican community in Klatovy has done quite well, perhaps very well. Until the 15th century, it enjoyed the admiration of local benefactors, burghers and influential nobility, provably developed a sermon and study, its members found among bishops, papal chaplains, inquisitors and professors of theology. The later non-conformist attitudes towards the Hussitism and long-term survival in an organized exile phase along with the catholic minority from Klatovy, even after the destruction of the proper convent (1419), show a considerable Dominican identity and the determination of its members. Dominikánský konvent (zal. 1267/1290) tvořil spolu s křížovnickým špitálem Sv. Ducha (zal. 1289) dvě řeholní instituce, které zcela rozdílným způsobem obohacovaly náboženský a kulturní život města Klatov. Na sklonku středověku, kdy velká část Evropy byla zasažena epidemií moru (1347-1363), papežským schismatem (1383-1417) a dominikánský řád prožíval převážně velmi krizové období (1350-1417) nejen co do řeholní kázně, tak ale zvláště celkovým úpadkem studia, můžeme říci na základě dochovaných dokumentů, že klatovská dominikánská komunita si vedla poměrně dobře, možná velmi dobře. Až do 15. století se těšila přízni místních dobrodinců, měšťanů i vlivné šlechty, prokazatelně rozvíjela kázání a studium, její členy najdeme mezi biskupy, papežské kaplany, inkvizitory a profesory teologie. Také pozdější nekonformní postoje vůči husitství a dlouhodobé přežívání v organizované exilové fázi spolu s klatovskou katolickou menšinou, a to i po vyplenění domácího kláštera (1419), svědčí o nemalé dominikánské identitě a odhodlání jejích členů.

The first part of the contribution introduces comparison of the classical rhetoric as taught and employed by the Province of Bohemia of the Society of Jesus. The other part brings a closer look at university sermons by a professor of the Prague university P. Caspar Knittel SJ, which are typical examples of conceptual writing at the break of 18th century and, due to the lecturer's opinion, one of the peaks of conceptism in the Czech lands. První část příspěvku se věnuje srovnání klasické rétoriky s novou elokvencí, jak byla vyučována a praktikována jezuity v České provincii Tovaryšstva Ježíšova. Druhá část přibližuje univerzitní kázání profesora pražské univerzity a univerzitního kazatele P. Caspara Knittela SJ, která jsou typickým příkladem konceptuální tvorby v literatuře konce 17. a první poloviny 18. století a - dle názoru autora příspěvku - jedním z vrcholů konceptismu v českých zemích.

First, the article summarizes results achieved by the European Union in terms of the economic crises. On the basis of official statistics and statements then the author concludes that Europe is in a multiplied crisis which cannot be got over by established ways of political and economical actions. A possible solution is found in materialist concept of ideas which can act as an economical factor. Článek nejprve rekapituluje výsledky, jichž Evropská unie dosáhla při řešení ekonomické krize. Na základě oficiálních údajů a prohlášení evropských institucí autor dospívá k závěru, že Evropa se nalézá v zauzlené krizové situaci, z níž se nelze vymanit zavedenými způsoby politického a ekonomického jednání. Možné východisko se pak spatřuje v materialistickém pojetí idejí, které může působit jako ekonomický faktor.

This paper attempts to distinguish a comic level within Hájek's Czech Chronicle. Based on excerpts from anecdotal inserts, satirical and ironic passages and commentaries it finds an ongoing level of flat grotesquerie, not actually containing vulgarisms or scatological passages, but often making use of subtIe alterations of models, ludic puns on names and rythmic punchlines. Hájek used the comic both to make evaluative comments on moral shortcomings in particular and to stylistically enhance his chronicle narrative. Příspěvek se pokouší nalézt a rozlišit rovinu komiky v Hájkově Kronice české. Na základě excerpce přítomných anekdotických doplňků, satirických či ironických pasáží a komentářů nachází setrvalou míru grotesknosti a zároveň nepřítomnost vulgarismů nebo skatologických pasáží. Naopak v Kronice se objevují nenápadné úpravy předloh, ludibriální slovní hříčky nebo komické využívání antroponym, často také rytmizuje text. Hájek využívá komiku jednak k hodnotícímu komentování morálních nedostatků, jednak k stylistickému obohacování textu prostřednictvím nedějových anektod.
