Vyšehrad: from a medieval fortification to an Early Baroque citadel

2012 - Czech The area of the fortified complex used by the Bohemian princes and kings has changed substantially since the Early Middle Ages. Today it is composed of the Baroque Bastion of St Ludmila on the south side with the "Old Burgrave's House", and the bastion of St Wenceslaus on the west side. The massive Early Baroque armoury that originally stood on the north side of Vyšehrad burned down in 1927. It was built in 1654-1678, when Vyšehrad has been rebuilt to the Baroque citadel and the terrain relief has changed significantly. Prostor knížecí a královské akropole se od raněstředověkého Vyšehradu podstatně změnil. V současnosti se skládá z barokního bastionu sv. Ludmily na jižní straně, s tzv. Starým purkrabstvím, z bastionu sv. Václava na západě a ze severní části, kde původně stávala mohutná raně barokní zbrojnice, která v roce 1927 vyhořela. Vznikla v letech 1654-1678, kdy byl Vyšehrad přestavěn do podoby barokní pevnosti a došlo k podstatným změnám v jeho terénním reliéfu. Bohemian finds of stove tiles with the signature "HANS BERMAN"

2012 - English The article looks at one phenomenon of material culture of 16th century in Europe - stove tiles produced by Hans Berman workshops in central Germany. The finds of renaissance stove tiles with the signature and the date - "HANS BERMAN 155X" or "HANS BERMAN 1562" are known from the area of today's Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Sweden (south), the island part of Denmark and Latvia (Riga). From Bohemia and Moravia these stove tiles were not yet published. In 2007 in collection of Regional Museum in Teplice two complexes of fragments of stove tiles with signature HANS BERMAN 155X were detected. Later similar fragments have been found on the other Bohemian sites. Most of them are located in northern Bohemia (Bílina, Krupka, Prosetice, Teplice), and two sites in eastern part of the country (Dvůr Králové nad Labem, Pecka). Frontal parts of these stove tiles are decorated with 6 various reliefs - "Adam and Eve and the Tree of Life", "Crucifixion of Jesus Christ", portraits - "elector Maurice of Saxony", "August of Saxony", an "unknown nobleman" and "Architecture - church window". It has been newly shown, that production of Hans Berman workshop was in 16th century also distributed to the Bohemia.
