Some Specifics of Social Capital and Social Networks in Rural Municipalities

V příspěvku je testována hypotéza o vlivu různé velikosti a typu obcí na sociální kapitál. Na základě dat z šetření ISSP 2001 pro Českou republiku jsou analyzovány vybrané indikátory sociálního kapitálu a sociálních sítí. Výsledky jsou porovnávány pro různé typy obcí. The statement about the impact of different size and type of municipalities on social capital is tested in the paper. Some characteristics of social networks and some indicators of social capital are analyzed on the basis of the ISSP 2001 data for the Czech Republic. The results are compared for different types of municipalities.

Regional disparities in rental housing affordability

The paper addresses an analysis of regional disparities in rental housing affordability in the Czech Republic. In the paper, the issue of measuring housing affordability and the lack of relevant data set(s) are discussed. Additionally, the paper shows selected results of analysis of regional disparities in rental housing affordability in the period 2000 – 2006. The aim of the paper is to discover whether the disparities have been growing or shrinking among regions and among different types of households. Příspěvek se zaměřuje na analýzu regionálních disparit ve finanční dostupnosti nájemního bydlení v České republice. V příspěvku je diskutována problematika měření finanční dostupnosti bydlení i nedostupnosti zdrojů dat. Dále příspěvek ukazuje výsledky analýzy regionálních disparit ve finanční dostupnosti nájemního bydlení v letech 2000 – 2006. Cílem příspěvku je zjistit, zda se disparity mezi regiony a mezi různými typy domácností zvyšovaly nebo snižovaly.

This lecture will be focused on some aspects of sociological methodology that can be used for development of surveys carried out between readers in libraries. This lecture try to answer on these questions: How to find out that our survey is representative? How to formulate questions in survey? Which topics could be placed in survey? And how to work with and interpret obtained data? Příspěvek se soustředí na vybrané aspekty sociologické metodologie, jež mohou být užitečné při vytváření a analyzování výzkumů mezi čtenáři knihoven. Důraz klade zejména na to jak najít reprezentativní vzorek čtenářů, jak formulovat otazky v dotaznících, na co se ptát a jak tyto odpovědi interpretovat.

Educational aspirations of 15-year olds pupils and unintended consequences of testing

The paper deals with the educational aspirations issue in the context of the fact that according to various international comparisons educational system of the Czech Republic is highly stratified. Apart from that, specific concern is also given to the topic of unintended consequences of high-stakes testing. Příspěvek je zaměřen na problematiku vzdělanostních aspirací a vzdělávacích nerovností. Je zpracován s ohledem na východisko, že vzdělávací systém v České republice je v mezinárodním srovnání nadprůměrně stratifikovaný a selektivní a to podporuje vytváření nerovností již při formování vzdělanostních aspirací u žáků základních a středních škol.

Perception of social stratification: Those "at the bottom" – do they deserve recognition?

Text focuses mainly on discursive formation of unequal social categories, symbolic boundary maintenance and social identities. Analysis of 30 interviews with working men and women of different education and social position presents a closer view on ascribed characteristics and attitudes towards social categories/groups regarded by interviewees as "at the bottom" - "“homeless people" and "low-income employees". Differences are interpreted particularly in regard to past experiences and social position of interviewees. Text se zaměřuje na diskurzivní vytváření nerovných kategorií lidí, budování symbolických hranic mezi nimi a sociálních identit. Analýza rozhovorů s 30 pracující lidmi různého vzdělání a sociálního postavení přináší bližší pohled na připisované charakteristiky a postoje účastníků k sociálním kategoriím/skupinám označovaným jako "ty dole – bezdomovci" a "nízkopříjmoví zaměstnanci". Zjištěné rozdíly ve výpovědích jsou interpretovány především ve vztahu ke zkušenosti a sociální pozici vypravěčů.

Regional disparities in housing affordability – project description

The conference paper aims to provide basic information about the project supported by the Ministry for regional development of the CR. The goal of the project is to describe situation and development of regional disparities in housing availability and housing affordability and to analyse selected consequences (unemployment and migration rates, demographic conditions etc.) of regional disparities. The goal of the project, expected outcomes and research activities are described in the conference paper. Cílem příspěvku je podat základní informace o projektu podpořeném Ministerstvem pro místní rozvoj ČR, jehož cílem je zmapování a kvantifikace aktuálního stavu i vývoje regionálních disparit mezi kraji (NUTS 3) ČR ve finanční i fyzické dostupnosti bydlení a komplexní analýza vybraných důsledků těchto regionálních disparit. Příspěvek zejména popisuje jaký je hlavní účel projektu, jeho očekávané přínosy, hlavní a dílčí cíle projektu a očekávané výstupy projektu.

Development of educational inequality in the Czech Republic in mobility perspective – stagnation or dynamics?

This paper shows, with the aid of mobility analysis, how education reproduction evolved in the Czech lands from the pre-socialist period to the end of socialism. Analysis gives detailed insight into the processes that before 1948 and between 1948 and 1989 are concealed behind the observed stability of relative chances. The paper addresses the questions of when, whether, and to what extent the Czech education system became more dynamic and open, and when it stabilised or became closed. Příspěvek pomocí mobilitní analýzy ukazuje vývoj vzdělanostní reprodukce v českých zemích od před-socialistického období (r. 1916) až po konec socialismu. Analýza umožňuje detailnější pohled na procesy, které se před r. 1948 a mezi lety 1948 až 1989 skrývaly za stabilními relativními šancemi. Stať tak odpovídá na otázku, kdy, zda vůbec a do jaké míry během těchto dvou etap došlo ke zdynamizování a otevírání českého vzdělávacího systému, a kdy tento systém stagnoval či se uzavíral.

Sport as status symbol

Sports and physical activites can be linked to stratification system as status symbols. The analysis based on representative survey ISSP 2007 „Leisure Time and Sports“ is focused on position of most common sports in stratification map of the Czech society. Inspite of the most influencing variable in the analysis – demographics (age and gender), importance of social position of respondents can’t be neglected. Na sportování a pohybové aktivity je možné nahlížet jako na činnosti, které jsou svázány se stratifikačním systémem jako statusové symboly. Na základě analýzy dat z reprezentativního šetření ISSP 2007 je hledána pozice nejčastějších sportů ve stratifikační mapě české společnosti. Přestože největší vliv na aktivní provozování sportů mají demografické charakteristiky (věk a pohlaví), lze nezanedbatelný význam připsat i sociálnímu postavení.
