Online Subject Searching of Dissertations

2016 - Czech This paper evaluates searching for doctoral dissertations by topic in various online systems. The situation in the Czech Republic is introduced, including the problems involved in completing successful topical searches for dissertations – is it possible to find all relevant materials, or is it sufficient just to find something? The Czech situation is then compared with how systems abroad, particularly in the United States, are being implemented with new access routes for dissertations in the form of linked open data, in which controlled vocabularies of subject terms figure prominently. The paper also discusses how selected European systems whose dissertations are already presented in the WorldCat database will cope with a challenge: “... Over time, these references [for topic entities] will be replaced with persistent URIs to... Linked Data resources”? Příspěvek vyhodnocuje vyhledávání doktorských disertací podle tématu v různých online systémech. Představena je situace v ČR, diskutován je problém úspěšnosti tematického vyhledávání disertací – lze najít vše relevantní nebo postačí najít jenom něco? Porovnána je situace u významných systémů v zahraničí, zejména pak v USA, kde byla již nastoupena také nová cesta zpřístupňování disertací formou propojených otevřených dat, ve které jsou řízené slovníky termínů, vyjadřujících téma, důležitou podmínkou. Jak se vybrané evropské systémy, jejichž disertace jsou již dnes reprezentovány v databázi katalogu WorldCat, vyrovnají s výzvou: „... Časem tyto odkazy [na entity témat] budou nahrazeny trvalými URI na ... zdroje propojených dat“? Text and Data Mining of Grey Literature for the Purpose of Scientific Research

2016 - Czech The paper explores the legal possibilities of users to text and data mine repositories of grey literature for scientific research without the consent of the GL repository operator and right holders of the documents contained therein. Firstly the scope of the respective copyright and sui generis database rights exceptions for scientifi c research is analyzed. Secondly the term “scientific research” and its meaning in the regulatory instruments is explored. Lastly the debated mandatory exception for TDM for scientific research is introduced. Příspěvek zkoumá možnosti uživatelů jak legálně realizovat text a data mining nad repozitáři šedé literatury (a v nich obsažených dokumentech) pro vědecké účely bez souhlasu provozovatele repozitáře šedé literatury a nositelů práv k jednotlivým dokumentům. Nejprve je analyzován rozsah omezení výlučných práv (autorské právo, zvláštní práva pořizovatele databáze) a následně je prozkoumán význam pojmu „vědecké účely“ v příslušných regulačních nástrojích. V poslední části je představeno debatované omezení exkluzivních práv pro TDM pro vědecké účely. General Data Protection Regulation and its Impact on Grey Literature

2016 - Czech In April 2016, the European commission adopted a new General Data Protection Regulation. This regulation is based on fundamental principles of the existing legislation and elaborates it further into the set of rather detailed legal instructions. The suggested paper aims to summarize the parts of the new regulation that are most relevant for operators of gray literature repositories, who will have to adapt within the next two years. The paper will focus on the issues of consent to the processing of personal data, the legal regime of processing personal data without the consent of the data subjects, the data subject’s right to information as well as the legal regime of acquisition of personal data by third parties and exercise of the newly formulated right to be forgotten. V dubnu 2016 bylo přijato nové obecné nařízení o ochraně osobních údajů, jež v zásadních principech vychází ze stávající právní úpravy, v mnohém ji však rozvádí a konkretizuje. Příspěvek má převážně přehledový charakter a zaměří se na novou úpravu povinností, jimž se budou muset správci repozitářů v horizontu nejbližších dvou let přizpůsobit. Příspěvek bude věnován zejména otázkám souhlasu se zpracováním údajů, informovanosti subjektu údajů, přebírání osobních údajů od třetích stran, možnostech zpracovávat a zveřejňovat některé osobní údaje i bez souhlasu dotčených osob a nově formulovanému právu být zapomenut. The Catalogues of Records Companies of Early 20th Century

2016 - Czech Grey literature often contains documents such as publisher or corporate catalogues. Included among these are catalogues of record companies, which provide evidence of all the sound documents issued for sale. Recordings are part of the collections of many institutions, but few of them also own these secondary information resources. Therefore, they are not able to contribute to the overall view of the cultural heritage of the era when the gramophone industry began and developed rapidly. Pojmem šedá literatura je možné označit také dokumenty typu nakladatelské či firemní katalogy. K takovým patří také katalogy gramofonových firem, které přinášely svědectví o produkci zvukových dokumentů, resp. nahrávek. Tyto nahrávky jsou dodnes součástí sbírek řady institucí, avšak žádná z nich nevlastní tyto sekundární informační zdroje a není proto schopná přispět k celkovému pohledu na kulturní dědictví doby, kdy se gramofonový průmysl začal bouřlivě rozvíjet. 2016 - Czech The digital transformation has had a tremendous impact on graduate research workflows and output. Most theses are submitted as ETDs, although the share varies by country and by subject. Universities worldwide are running institutional repositories to showcase new graduate research, as well as recently digitized material. The presentation will highlight studies on dissertation and theses usage on repositories as well as giving insights into ProQuest’s unique dissertations and theses analytics. Digitální revoluce podstatně ovlivnila postgraduální výzkum včetně příslušných pracovních postupů a konečných výstupů. Většina závěrečných prací je odevzdávána v elektronické podobě, i když se podíl takových prací liší v jednotlivých zemích a podle oboru. Univerzity po celém světě provozují institucionální repozitáře, ve kterých zpřístupňují nové výsledky postgraduálního výzkumu i starší zdigitalizované práce. Prezentace představí několik studií sledujících využívání kvalifikačních prací v repozitářích a také analytické nástroje ProQuestu vytvořené ke stejnému účelu. Legal aspects of primary scientific results

2015 - Czech This contribution focuses on the legal aspects of raw grey literature that is understood as yet to be published, interim or incomplete scientific results like raw primary data or drafts of scientific articles. Specifically the contribution deals with two problematic areas: 1) liability for damages resulting from inadequate (or even forbidden) use of the results and possibilities of limitation thereof; 2) ownership of such grey literature and contractual possibility to dispose therewith after it has been offered to official publication (i.e. the copyright issues of pre-prints, post-prints and publisher’s edition). Tento příspěvek se zaměřuje na právní aspekty surové šedé literatury, která je chápána jako dosud nepublikované, prozatímní nebo nekompletní vědecké výsledky jako např. primární výzkumná data nebo pracovní verze vědeckých článků. Konkrétně se příspěvek zabývá dvěma problematickými oblastmi: 1) odpovědnosti za újmu vyplývající z nedostatečného (nebo dokonce zakázaného), využívání výsledků a možnostech omezení této odpovědnosti; 2) majetkovými právy k takové šedé literatuře a smluvním možnostem nakládat s ní poté, co byla nabídnuta k publikaci (tj. i otázky autorských práv k pre-printům, post-printům a vydavatelským verzím vědeckých článků). INIS: Nuclear Grey Literature Repository

2015 - Czech As one of the world's largest collections of published information on the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology, INIS represents an extraordinary example of world cooperation. Current membership includes 130 countries and 24 international organizations. 154 INIS members share and allow access to their valuable nuclear information resources, preserving them for future generations and offering a freely available nuclear knowledge repository. The presentation will give an overview of INIS role, information sharing activities, ways of nuclear knowledge organization and capacity building. It will also discuss some technological trends, current challenges and future developments. INIS, jedna z největších světových kolekcí zveřejněných informací o mírovém využití jaderné vědy a jaderných technologií, představuje mimořádný příklad mezinárodní spolupráce. Aktuálně na INISu participuje 130 států a 24 mezinárodních organizací. 154 členů INIS sdílí a zpřístupňuje své cenné informační zdroje z oblasti jaderné energie, stará se o archivaci těchto zdrojů a jejich zachování pro budoucí generace. Prezentace poskytne přehled funkcí databáze INIS, možnosti sdílení informací, způsoby organizace znalostí v databázi a plán na posílení kapacit. 10 years with grey literature at Tomas Bata University in Zlín

2015 - Czech The Library of Tomas Bata University in Zlín has been working on accessioning academic grey literature systematically for the last 10 years. During this time, one of the first information systems storing theses and dissertations changed from a closed, manually updated system into a fully automated and fully open repository with a number of integrations with both internal and external systems. New types of documents were added and several services were introduced for working with grey literature effectively. This contribution will describe its current state and outline the hurdles encountered getting there. Knihovna Univerzity Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně se již 10 let systémově zabývá problematikou zpřístupňování akademické šedé literatury. Během této doby se jedno z prvních uložišť kvalifi kačních prací změnilo z uzavřeného, ručně aktualizovaného systému na plně automatizovaný a zcela otevřený repozitář s množstvím interakcí s vnitřním i vnějším prostředím. Přibyly nové typy dokumentů a byla představena řada nadstavbových služeb pro efektivní práci s šedou literaturou. Příspěvek bude založen na popisu současného stavu s nastíněním křižovatek k němu vedoucích.
