Paths to a Dictionary of Early Modern Czech

2018 - Czech Existing diachronic dictionaries record the Old Czech lexicon (from the period 1300–1500 approximately) quite well. Despite this fact, a dictionary of Middle Czech (1500–1780) is still missing. For such a type of dictionary, it will be necessary to gather representative material capturing characteristic features of its age, i.e. the increase in general literacy enabled by gradual development of the school system and the discovery of book-printing and, in addition, the Renaissance/humanistic worldview. The material will inevitably show elements of discontinuity with the previous phase of the language. In order to express all the mentioned qualities of the lexicon, there is a need to gather c 120–140 thousand lexemes, and, even in such a case, we have to take a certain percentage of words into account, which will not be recorded in the final database. The systemic description of the period lexicon will only be misrepresented at the very minimum. Dosavadní diachronní slovníky dobře zachycují staročeskou slovní zásobu (cca 1300–1500). Chybí však slovník raněnovověké češtiny (1500–1780). Pro ten je třeba shromáždit reprezentativní materiál, který bude odrážet charakteristické rysy své doby: nárůst všeobecné gramotnosti umožněný postupným rozvojem školství i objevem knihtisku a renesanční/humanistický pohled na svět. Materiál však bude nezbytně vykazovat také prvky diskontinuity s předchozí fází jazyka. K postižení všech uvedených vlastností slovní zásoby bude třeba shromáždit cca 120–140 tisíc lexémů. I v takovém případě musíme počítat s určitým procentem slov, která nebudou výslednou lexikální databází zaznamenána. Systémový obraz dobové slovní zásoby tím však bude zkreslen jen minimálně. The Verbs běžet and běhat (to Run) in the Lexicographical Point of View

2018 - Czech The paper deals with the dictionary treatment of two Czech verbs běžet and běhat in the monolingual Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech. The paper focuses on the morphological issues and semantic structure of the aforementioned verbs. Some of meanings are symmetrical, differ only in determinate – indeterminate character, and others are asymmetrical. All symmetries or asymmetries are reflected in the dictionary definitions. Special attention is paid to primary meaning: locomotion of living beings and to metaphorical and metonymic transfer establishing secondary meanings. Příspěvek se zaměřuje na lexikografické zpracování dvou českých sloves běžet a běhat v Akademickém slovníku současné češtiny. Pozornost je věnována morfologickým otázkám a sémantické struktuře daných sloves. Významové struktury obou sloves jsou do značné míry symetrické, liší se zejména sémantickými rysy determinovanosti – indeterminativnosti. V řadě významů se však vyskytují asymetrie. Všechny podobnosti a rozdíly jsou reflektovány ve slovníkových definicích těchto sloves. Zvláštní pozornost je v příspěvku věnována primárním významům: pohybu živých tvorů i metaforickým a také metonymickým posunům sekundárních významů. 2018 - Czech This contribution focuses on possibilities of proprial phraseology processing in monolingual dictionaries. The paper presents the types of (de)proprial phrasemes by means of actual examples and compares the approaches to their lexicographical processing in the upcoming Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech (Akademický slovník současné češtiny), in the previous Czech and Slovak monolingual dictionaries and in the special Czech Dictionary of Idioms (Slovník české frazeologie a idiomatiky). Příspěvek se zabývá možnostmi zpracování propriální frazeologie ve výkladových slovnících. Představuje typy (de)propriálních frazémů na skutečných příkladech a porovnává přístupy k jejich zpracování v připravovaném Akademickém slovníku současné češtiny, v předcházejících českých a slovenských výkladových slovnících a speciálním Slovníku české frazeologie a idiomatiky. Laypersons’ language rules and their importance for language cultivation

2018 - Czech In investigating the language attitudes of the laypersons, the particular importance is attached to Folk-linguistics, still less explored field in Czech linguistics. Nonlinguists’comments about linguistic topics also include the codified language rules reflection, a rich source of linguistic and sociolinguistic data. This text brings results of the analysis of laypersons’ language rules that are often present in questions for the Language Consulting Centre of the Department of the Language Cultivation of the Czech Language Institute and shows their importance for the language handbooks-making process. Přestože je tzv. laická lingvistika nedílnou a důležitou součástí výzkumu v oblasti postojů k jazyku, v českém prostředí dosud zůstávala poněkud stranou. Vyjadřování postojů k jazyku ze strany běžných uživatelů přirozeně zahrnuje i reflexi jazykových pravidel, která je ze své podstaty bohatým zdrojem lingvistických a sociolingvistických dat. Článek analyzuje laická pravidla, jež se objevují v dotazech jazykové poradně oddělení jazykové kultury Ústavu pro jazyk český, a ukazuje je jako důležitý zdroj dat pro vytváření jazykových příruček. Neologisms in fashion

2018 - Czech The article deals with new words in dynamic area of fashion. Neologisms are understood here as neologisms in the narrower sense as well as nonce words. There are presented words related to fashion from the three Czech dictionaries of neologisms (1994, 1998, 2004). Expressions from the open e-dictionary Čeština 2.0 and our own excerpts are added. New inventive expressions are proof of the full-blooded life of the national language and proof of the language creativity of the bearers of the language, and thus become a useful document on the culture of the period. The current Czech dictionary of neologisms is substantially missing. Příspěvek se zabývá novými slovy v dynamické oblasti módy. Neologismy jsou zde chápány jako neologismy v užším smyslu i jako příležitostná pojmenování. Jsou představena slova týkající se módy ze tří českých slovníků neologismů (1994, 1998, 2004). Přidány jsou výrazy z otevřeného e-slovníku Čeština 2.0 a z vlastní excerpce. Nové nápadité výrazy jsou důkazem plnokrevného života národního jazyka i jazykové tvořivosti nositelů jazyka a stávají se užitečným dokumentem o kultuře doby. 2018 - Czech This article is about verifying the conclusions of D. Šlosar concerning deverbal nouns denoting an activity with suffixes -nka and -tka. We focus in particular on the dating of their origin and on their quantity. For verification we use materials of the Department of Language Development of ÚJČ AV ČR. V příspěvku konfrontujeme poznatky D. Šlosara k slovotvorným sufixům dějových jmen -nka a -tka s materiálovou základnou staročeských slovníků dostupných na Vokabuláři webovém, staročeskou kartotékou OVJ ÚJČ AV ČR a Lexikální databází humanistické a barokní češtiny. Cílem je ověřit dataci vzniku daných jmen a jejich množství.
