Cílem textu je poukázat na problémy používání statistické významnosti. Někteří autoři na základě těchto problémů navrhují přestat statistickou významnost ve vědě vůbec používat. Text se snaží nabídnout některá řešení nejběžnějších problémů, které s sebou nese statistická významnost. The goal of the article is to show some problems of statistical significance. Some authors argue that this concept is bad because of these problems and propose to abolish it in the science. The article offer some solutions to common problems of the concept.

Remarks to problem of correct interpretation of party preferences

The article points to the problematic interpretation of electoral polls provided by media, using some examples from Czech press. Journalists are not able to differentiate within various types of polls and their interpretations of poll outcomes are sometimes incorrect. In some cases therefore the psychological effect of legal threshold coupled with media campaigning based on the misinterpretations of preferences can influence voters decisions. Stať upozorňuje na problém špatné interpretace výzkumů volebních preferencí v českých médiích. Žurnalisté často nerozlišují mezi různými typy výzkumů a jejich interpretace výsledků jsou pak zavádějící. V určitých případech proto může psychologický efekt uzavírací klauzule kombinovaný s mediální dezinterpretací volebních preferencí ovlivnit voličské rozhodování.

Attitudes of the Czech borderland towards Germany

The article comparing results of opinion poll of attitudes of Czechs towards Germans, some aspects of Czech-German cooperation along and cross the border. It´s generally apparent the trend of steadily increasing trust towads Germany including diminishing fear of German dominance. In comparison of milieu along the Bavarian and Saxonian part of the border there are recorded differences stemming from specific situation of both socio-economic systems. Článek porovnává výsledky postojů Čechů vůči Německu včetně aspektů česko-německé spolupráce v česko-německém pohraničí.

The presented paper focuses on one possible approach to the typology of rural space, mentioning its methodology, data sources and partial results. The typology discriminates three major types of space: rural, suburban and urban on the basis of the intensity of commute to work to the major urban centers of the country. Příspěvek diskutoval problematiku vymezení venkova v České republice z hlediska prostorového a především z hlediska obyvatelstva v prostoru žijícího. Jádrem příspěvku byla prezentace možné typologie rozdělující území ČR na městské, příměstské a venkovské oblasti. Byly prezentovány zejména metodologické aspekty typologie, zdroje dat a dílčí výsledky její aplikace na území České republiky.

Are Czech Rural Municipalities too Small?

Since the early 90s, the extremely fragmented structure of Czech rural municipalities has been a frequent target of criticism. It was mentioned that this structure hinders the economic and social development of rural areas, is responsible for instability of local government, causes irresponsible use of public money by local authorities as well as problematic legal culture of local administration in small municipalities. The paper outlines the nature of this problem and presents a brief overview of the available knowledge about the relationship between the size of muinicipalities and their functioning as administrative, political, economic and social units V ČR je předmětem diskusí a podnětem pro uvažováná nebo realizovaná opatření roztříštěná struktura obcí. Tato struktura bývá kritizována jako problematická např. z hlediska sociálního a ekonomického rozvoje venkova, stability volených orgánů malých obcí, jejich finančního hospodaření, kvality správních úkonů atd. Příspěvek naznačuje rozměr tohoto problému a shrnuje poznatky o vztahu mezi velikostí obcí a jejich fungováním jako správních, poltických, ekonomických a sociálních jednotek.

Educational mobility during socialism

Ve svém příspěvku jsem shrnula dosavadní zjištění o charakteru a rozsahu vzdělanostních nerovností v socialistické České republice a ukázala jsem, k jakým výsledkům jsem došla prostřednictvím nové mobilitní analýzy, tj. co ukázal proces ověřování dosavadních zjištění. Mobilitní úhel pohledu a log-lineární modelování umožnily identifikovat specifický lokální strukturální kontext, tj. jakým způsobem se vyvíjel mobilitní režim českého vzdělanostního systému. In my contribution I recapitulated up to now findings about character and extent of educational inequalities in the socialist Czech Republic and I showed what the results of verification of existing findings (through a new mobility analysis) are. The mobility point of view with the help of log-linear modelling led to identify specific local structural contexts, i.e. in what way Czech education mobility system (pre-socialist and socialist) evolved.

Determinants of social trust in Czech society

The artical studies social trust with special focus on its determinants. Using survey data from „Our society 2005“ we verify validity of teories of social trust (according to conceptualization of Delheye and Newton 2003) for Czech society. The final regression model confirms validity of so called „social theory“ for Czech society, it means the connection of social trust to evaluation of relationships in society, trust in institutions and evaluation of ecomic situation in society. Stať zkoumá oblast tzv. sociální důvěry, přičemž se věnuje zejména jejím determinantám. Na datech z výzkumu Naše společnosti 2005 ověřuje teorie důvěry dle konceptualizace Delheye a Newtona (2003) na české společnosti. Výsledný regresní model potvrzuje platnost tzv. společenské teorie pro českou společnost, tedy vázanost sociální důvěry na hodnocení vztahů a vlastností ve společnosti, důvěru v instituce a hodnocení ekonomické situace ve společnosti.
