A certified monument protection methodology for the application of interests nd goals of monument protection institutions in the management of protected monuments of garden art with a high importance of woody plant collections

The main goal of the certified methodology is to establish a firm sequence and content of individual measures taken to secure interests and goals of institutions of monument protection in the management of monuments of garden art with important collections of introduced woody plants. The approach consists of a logical sequence of specific assessment and the interpretation of their results. This integrates interests of all the relevant specializations; in particular, the potential conflict between the viewpoints of a dendrologist and a garden architect is solved. Cílem památkového postupu je stanovit postup a obsah jednotlivých kroků pro zajištění zájmů a cílů památkové péče u objektů zahradního umění, v kterých je lokalizován vysoký podíl rostlinných sbírek, především dřevin. Metodický postup spočívá v realizaci logického sledu oborových průzkumů a jejich interpretace. Cílem je sjednocení oborových postupů s ohledem na specifické zastoupení rostlinných sbírek v památkách zahradního umění (PZU). Specifikum těchto problémů spočívá v umístění jednotlivých taxonů (vegetačního prvku, položky sbírky), které bylo realizováno bez potřebné znalosti kompozice objektu. Tento rozpor je v současné péči o tyto objekty zahradního umění pouze obtížně řešitelný.

Methods to register living collections in monuments of garden art

This methodical tool is designed to register and catalogue woody plants in living collections that are integrated in monuments of garden art. The tool, with the aid of descriptive and evaluating criteria and within the framework of architectural composition and vegetation elements of the monument, aloows to develop a spatially explicit registry organized in a database in the GIS environment. Metodika představuje nástroj, který umožňuje evidovat a katalogizovat dřeviny v živých sbírkách v rámci PZU pomocí popisných a hodnotících kritérií, a to v kontextu kompozice a vegetačních prvků PZU, a současně umožní tato data uvádět prostorově explicitně na platformě databáze v rámci vebové aplikace v prostředí GIS.

Methodology for the observation and assessment of the process of woody plant introduction in monuments of garden art

The methodology aims at the comprehensive evaluation of the process of woody plant introduction in monuments of garden art. The evaluation serves for the identification of suitable assortment of woody plants not only for historical gardens and parks but also for urban greenery. A detailed classification the methodology allows the assessment of individuals from the viewpoint of their aesthetical and biological functions. Data sets for individual species make it possible to estimate the introduction risk. Metodika si klade za cíl vytvořit nástroj pro všestranné vyhodnocení procesu introdukce v objektech památek zahradního umění. Toto vyhodnocení bude též sloužit k identifikaci vhodného sortimentu dřevin použitelného nejen pro historické objekty zahrad a parků, ale též pro sídelní zeleň. Na základě podrobné klasifikace metodika umožní hodnotit jedince introdukovaných rostlin zejména z hlediska zachování jejich estetické a biologické funkce. Soubory dat pro jednotlivé taxony umožňují též vyhodnocení rizika introdukce.

Landscape management - lessons from the landscape development

The landscape of the Czech Republic is unable to sufficiently compensate for extreme weather events such as droughts and floods within the current climate change. Damage is done to human health, property and key resources (water, soil and biodiversity), and costs are rising in agriculture and forestry. Sustainable soil management is in the public interest, and the fundamental question is how to encourage land users to farm the landscape while respecting its fine-grained mosaic and in accordance with the European Landscape Convention. For this purpose, we have set up the so-called Platform for Sustainable Landscape Management, in which research institutes even outside the Academy of Sciences are increasingly involved. The main objectives of the platform are the sharing of information, assistance in developing strategic advice and education on sustainable landscape. Akademie věd České republiky rozvíjí Strategii AV21, která nese motto „Špičkový výzkum ve veřejném zájmu“. Cílem našeho projektu řešeného v rámci této aktivity (konkrétně programu Rozmanitost života a zdraví ekosystémů) je sjednotit výzkum o krajině na jednotlivých akademických pracovištích a představit jejich práci cílovým uživatelům ve srozumitelném jazyce. Vytvořili jsme mezioborovou platformu pro výzkum krajinných a ekosystémových služeb, platformu pro krajinu.

Utilization of endophytic microorganisms for growth promotion of Miscanthus

Increased survival and aboveground biomass yield of Miscanthus was achieved due to the inoculation of Miscanthus seedlings by a mixed inocula based on the selected endophytic microbes (bacteria and fungi). Inoculated treatments produced 20-90% higher yield of biomass compared to the controls. Importantly, fungal inoculum increased also production of rhizomes and the same trend was observed in the treatment inoculated by the bacterial mixture. Bacterial endophytes also strongly augmented overwintering of the plants on one of the tested model plantations. Because the price of the inocula production is economically feasible and does not substantially increase the plantation establishment costs we hope for fast implementation of the methodology both in CR and beyond. V důsledku inokulace rostlin ozdobnice směsí endofytních mikroorganismů došlo ke zlepšení přežívání a zvýšení výnosů nadzemní biomasy, které se na různých stanovištích pohybovalo mezi 20-90% proti kontrole. S ohledem na klíčovou roli rhizomů pro přezimování ozdobnice považujeme za významné, že houbové inokulum vedle nadzemní biomasy signifikantně zvýšilo produkci rhizomů a stejný, byť nesignifikantní trend vykázalo bakteriální inokulum. To také výrazně zvýšilo procento přežívajících rostlin na jedné z experimentálních ploch. Protože cena produkce obou inokul je ekonomicky přijatelná a nezvyšuje výrazně náklady na zakládání porostu, předkládáme tuto metodiku potenciálním pěstitelům a producentům in vitro sazenic s nadějí, že najde brzy své uplatnění v ČR i za jejími hranicemi.

Paeonies and their breeding

Paeonies are old ornamental and utilitarian plants. This contribution represents horticultural division of varieties and their history. The collection of paeonies in Pruhonice Botanic Garden was founded in 1968, since the eighties it is also engaged in their breeding. Peonies were in 2015 included in the National Program, we are now preparing their classifier. Pivoňky jsou staré okrasné a užitkové rostliny. Práce představuje zahradnické dělení odrůd a jejich historii. Sbírka pivoněk v Průhonické botanické zahradě byla založena v roce 1968, od osmdesátých let se zabývá také jejich šlechtěním. Pivoňky byly v roce 2015 zařazeny do Národního programu, nyní připravujeme jejich klasifikátor.

On the basis of two project results rotational mixed sheep and goat grazing without housing them combined with mowing to reduce expansion of tall grasses into dry grasslands or into degraded or newly established grasslands is suggested. V lučních společenstvech dochází se změnou srážkového, vodního a živinového režimu k poměrně rychlým změnám druhového složení, chemismu a mikrobiální aktivity v půdě, které se nejvýrazněji projevují v ekosystému suchých acidofilních trávníků. Jejich dlouhodobá existence je také ohrožena silnou expanzí dlouhostébelných trav jako je Calamagrostis epigejos a Arrhenatherum elatius. Jako nejvhodnější způsob managementu se jeví rotační pastva ovcí a koz s rychlým přeháněním kombinovaná s kosením a odnosem biomasy, která znásobí efekt exportu živin ze systému.

Possibilities of the use of the fishpond sediment in the improvement of arable land is discussed. Among others, this approach has a high potential to contribute to the recycling of phosphorus in the agriculture landscapes. For this purpose, we propose set of particular techniques which were tested in the field study. Práce diskutuje možnosti využití rybničního sedimentu při zúrodňování zemědělské půdy. Tento přístup má mimo jiné velký potenciál při recyklaci fosforu v zemědělské krajině. Proto navrhujeme soubor konkrétních opatření, která jsme testovali v našem terénním experimentu.
