Infinitive Clauses in Administrative Style

The Bachelor Thesis deals with infinitive clauses in the administrative style. The main attention is paid to the identification of the function of the infinitive structures from the syntactic point of view and to the frequency of their use. The theoretical part of the work gives details about the system of non-finite structures, with a preferential treatment to the infinitive clauses. The practical part is based on the analysis of three English texts of the administrative style where the frequency of occurrences of the infinitives in the particular function is discussed. Analysis of Ellipsis in Administrative and Journalistic Style

This bachelor thesis deals with ellipsis and its occurrence in administrative and journalistic style. The paper consists of two parts, the theoretical part and the analysis. In the theoretical part, ellipsis will be defined and classified in terms of recoverability type of ellipsis and its position within a construction. Moreover, the attention will be also drawn to ellipted sentence elements and their possible combinations. The analytical part subsequently studies the types and frequency of ellipsis identified within the administrative and journalistic style. The task of the analysis is to find out which type of ellipsis is preferred in the particular style. The Depiction of Irish Community in The Leenane Trilogy by Martin McDonagh

This Bachelor Thesis is focused on the problematics and analysis of three plays by Martin McDonagh, which together form so the called Leenane trilogy. It is The Beauty Queen of Leenane, A skull in Connemara and The Lonesome West. The first theoretical part introduces British drama with focus on the transformation and evolution of Irish drama in the second half of the 20th century with subsequent brief placement and introduction of the author. Last theoretical part presents a popular theatre of the 1990's wave called In-Yer-Face, because it is often connected with the analyzed trilogy. The practical part of this thesis is focused on own analysis of the Leenane trilogy, paying attention to the way the author depicts the life in a typical Irish community, with consideration of the environment and time in which the plays take place. The whole thesis is then finished by a short chapter covering an analysis of a life-performance of the last part of the Leenane trilogy and a short summary of the findings. This bachelor thesis deals with the theme of illusion and the American dream in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. In the first chapter, the trope of The American Dream is outlined and its origins and development are presented. A connection is made between the past, the post-World War II as well as today's world. The second chapter represents an analysis of the plot, themes and characters of Death of a Salesman using specific examples from the play to demonstrate the characters' own illusions views of the American Dream. This bachelor thesis is concerned with the political and social satire portrayed in Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. The first part of the thesis explains the term of political and social satire and its use. The second chapter gives a brief insight into the life of the author, along with his ideals and opinions. The analysis of the book's criticism is covered in the third part of the paper. In this part, there is an overview of the different opinions of critics concerning what the focus of the book's criticism is, followed by a description of the main characters and the analysis of the concrete examples of the political and social satire in the novel. The fourth chapter covers the summary of my research in the conclusion of the thesis. Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na kritiku viktoriánské společnosti v komediích Ideální manžel a Jak je důležité míti Filipa od Oscara Wildea. Práce nejprve charakterizuje historické pozadí viktoriánského období. Společensko-kulturní pozadí se následně zabývá třídním systémem a podrobným popisem jednotlivých sociálních tříd. Komedie jsou dále zasazeny do literárního kontextu, který, mimo jiné, obě zvolená díla klasifikuje. Analýza se soustřeďuje na kritiku viktoriánských konvencí a morálku nejvyšší společenské třídy, jejíž představitelé ve zvolených hrách tvoří drtivou většinu postav.
