Southern Gothic: Macabre Heroes in Toole's Neon Bible and McCarthy's Child of God

2016 - anglický Cílem této diplomové práce je porovnání protagonistů dvou novel, které jsou řazeny mezi díla Jižanské gotiky: Dítěte božího od Cormaca McCarthyho a Neonové Bible od Johna Kennedyho Toolea. Ačkoliv se hlavní hrdinové jeví jako odlišní, porovnání a analýza novel by měly prokázat společné rysy a motivy. Studium Jižanské gotiky tvoří pozadí analýzy a také počáteční část práce. Ta je zaměřena na základní charakteristiku žánru na základě vývoje Jižanské literatury. Obsahuje představení nejdůležitějších autorů, žánrů a typických motivů. Analytická část je zahájena odkazem na život a dílo autorů, protože jejich povaha a literární tvorba se liší. Více pozornosti je věnováno McCarthyho textům, neboť v porovnání s Toolem publikoval větší množství knih. Prvky Jižanské gotiky jsou tudíž pozorovány a porovnávány v analyzovaných krátkých románech a také v dalších McCarthyho dílech. Komparace vychází z teoretického základu. The aim of this diploma thesis is to compare the protagonists of two novels which are classified as Southern gothic writings: Child of God by Cormac McCarthy, and The Neon Bible by John Kennedy Toole. Although the pivotal characters appear dissimilar, the comparison and analysis of the novels might demonstrate common features and motifs. Studying of Southern gothic phenomena constitutes a background for the analysis, and also the initial part of the thesis. It is focused on a basic characteristic of the genre on the basis of the development of Southern literature. There is an introduction of the most important authors, genres, and typical motifs. The analytical part is prefaced by a reference to the life and work of the writers, as their nature and literary production vary. There is more attention paid to the texts by McCarthy because he has published a larger quantity of books in comparison with Toole. Southern gothic elements are therefore observed and compared in the analysed short novels, and also in other McCarthy's texts. The comparison corresponds to the theoretical ground. 2017 - anglický Předmětem diplomové práce "Od Dítěte v pravý čas k Pokání: Důležitost krize v dílech Iana McEwana" je identifikace a následná analýza výše zmíněné problematiky. Práce se zaměřuje na šest novel spadajících do daného úseku, tzn. Dítě v pravý čas, Nevinný, Černí psi, Nezničitelná láska, Amsterdam a Pokání. V teoretické části je Ian McEwan představen a zařazen do kontextu britské literatury. Práce toho spisovatele jsou příležitostně ovlivněny postmoderním uvažováním, z toho důvodu je krátce nastíněn i koncept postmodernismu. McEwanova tvorba ze sledovaného období je také pevně zakořeněna v jeho literárních počátcích, proto je v práci zahrnuto i krátké představení jeho dřívějších děl. Následující, praktická část zkoumá koncept krize v díle Iana McEwana a na příkladech vybraných děl rozebírá jednotlivá témata. The diploma thesis "From Child In Time to Atonement: The importance of crisis in Ian McEwan's works" aims to identify and subsequently analyse the issue of crisis in the selected works of Ian McEwan. The thesis focuses on six novels: The Child In Time, The Innocent, Black Dogs, Enduring Love, Amsterdam and Atonement. In the theoretical part, Ian McEwan is introduced in the context of British literature. Since Ian McEwan's work is on occasion influenced by postmodern thinking, the concept of postmodernism is characterized in brief. As Ian McEwan's later fiction is influenced immensely by his literary beginnings, his early fiction is introduced in order to provide a holistic view, a more complete picture. The following practical part examines the concept of crisis in Ian McEwan's work, using the author's selected works as references. A Comparison between Science Fiction Works of Arthur C. Clarke and Douglas Adams's Parody of the Genre

2017 - anglický Úkolem práce je nejprve definovat žánr science fiction na základě odborné literatury a dále rozebrat obecně literárně teoretický pojem parodie. Součástí práce budou stručné životopisy obou autorů (Arthur C. Clarke a Douglas Adams) a analýza Clarkovy série románů Vesmírná Odysea. Cílem práce je srovnání Clarkovy legendární série a Adamsovy parodie žánru Stopařův průvodce Galaxií, přičemž v každé sérii práce vytyčí hlavní postavy, motivy a symboly a následně porovná prostředí obou sérií, motivaci hrdinů, narativní strategii a vypravěčský styl. The first purpose of this paper is to define the term of science fiction genre, using literature specialized in the subject and later analyse the theoretical concept of parody in literature. The second part of the paper will consist of brief biographies of both authors (Arthur C. Clarke and Douglas Adams) and an analysis of Clarke's novel series Space Odyssey. The purpose of this paper is a comparison of Clarke's legendary series with Adams' parody of the genre The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by identifying main characters, motifs and symbols, and subsequently compare the settings of both series, character motivations and narrative strategies. 2017 - anglický Tato dizertační práce je věnována studiu fotofyzikálních vlastností fotosyntetických pigmentů. Stručný úvod do oboru je uveden v Kapitole 1. Ve studiích prezentovaných v této práci byla použita femtosekundová pump-probe spektroskopie pro stanovení vztahu mezi molekulární strukturou karotenoidů a jejich spektroskopickými vlastnostmi. Experimentální metody a metody analýzy dat jsou popsány v Kapitole 2. Kapitola 3 se zabývá zkoumáním vlivu izomerizace na dynamiku excitovaného stavu karotenoidu fucoxanthin obsahujícího karbonylovou skupinu. V Kapitole 4 je pro odhad struktury neznámého karotenoidu z Chromera velia použita schopnost karbonylových karotenoidů účastnit se protolytických reakcí s rozpouštědly. V Kapitole 5 byly studovány spektroskopické vlastnosti stavu S1 tří lineárních karotenoidů po nadměrné excitaci stavu S2. V Kapitole 6 je uvedena femtosekundová spektroskopická srovnávací studie Orange a Red Carotenoid Proteins, které obsahuji různé karotenoidy. This Ph.D. thesis is devoted to the study of the photophysical properties of photosynthetic pigments. The brief introduction to the field is given in Chapter 1. In studies presented in the thesis, femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy was used to determine the relation between the molecular structure of carotenoids and its spectroscopic properties. The experimental and data analysis methods are described in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 addresses the investigation of the effect of isomerization on excited-state dynamics of the carbonyl carotenoid fucoxanthin. In Chapter 4, the different response of carbonyl carotenoids to solvent proticity is used to estimate the structure of an unknown carotenoid from Chromera velia. In Chapter 5, spectroscopic properties of the S1 state of three linear carotenoids were studied after excess energy excitation in the S2 state. Chapter 6 presents a femtosecond spectroscopic comparison study of Orange and Red Carotenoid Proteins binding different carotenoids. Ecology of top fish predators, European catfish and asp, with consequences to fish communities

Paper I deals with the importance of chemical cues for predator-prey interactions in an aquatic environment. Here, I demonstrate that the ability to detect chemical cues represents a survival benefit for prey species. Paper II points out gillnet methodological bias, which may have subsequent repercussions in field evaluation of a predator's presence and assessment of larger fish abundance in general. Papers III and IV focus on asp Leuciscus aspius spawning grounds. In Paper III, I demonstrate how males maximize their spawning chances by early arrival and in Paper IV, I evaluate the predation pressure of asp prey, Alburnus alburnus, directed on asp eggs. 2017 - anglický Pour résumer, il est possible de dire que les politiques et sources de financement mises en place ? travers l'Europe encouragent ? la mobilité des jeunes. l'Union européenne s'est en effet, ? partir des années 1980, dotée de stratégies telles que la stratégie Europe2020, portée par le processus de Bologne afin de répondre au mieux aux défis proposés par la mondialisation. Ces politiques ont su ?tre efficace grâce ? une transformation simultanée des syst?mes universitaires européens visant ? faciliter les échanges inter-universitaires. De plus, ces politiques ont pu s'appuyer sur des programmes tels qu'Erasmus+, lancé en 1987 sous le nom d'Erasmus et qui devint Erasmus+ en 2014 ou m?me sur des politiques spécifiques telles que la stratégie d'internationalisation des universités. Le programme Erasmus+ regroupe l'ensemble des actions menées dans le cadre de la stratégie européenne pour l'éducation et la formation et semble avoir des effets conséquents sur les personnes participants ? ce programme en leur permettant d'acquérir de nouvelles compétences, évoluant ainsi d'un point de vue personnel, académique et professionnel. Malgré le succ?s de la mobilité étudiante via Erasmus+, des probl?mes sont toujours ? régler dans le programme dans son ensemble tels que la manque de reconnaissance de la mobilité du personnel ou bien les financements alloués notamment dans le cadre de la mobilité étudiante. Pour conclure, on peut donc dire que l'Union européenne encourage grandement ? la mobilité des jeunes de par les moyen politiques et financiers mis en place et beaucoup de bonnes pratiques ont vu le jour au fil du temps. Néanmoins, des progr?s restent ? faire notamment concernant la mobilité du personnel et des apprentis ainsi que sur les financements alloués. To summarise the present master thesis, it can be said that the policies and the funding sources in Europe supports the youth mobility. Indeed, in order to face the challenges brought by the globalisation from 1980's the European Union decided to set policies such as the Bologna process or more recently the strategy Europe 2020 or the youth policy. These policies are efficient because of the simultaneous transformation of the university system in Europe and the creation of the Erasmus program in 1987 which become Erasmus+ in 2014 and the internationalisation strategy of the universities. The Erasmus+ program backs every European strategy for the education and the formation and seems to have significant effects on the participants and these effects seem to help the young people to be more able to face the current globalised world. Indeed, taking part to Erasmus+ allows students to do a mobility in the European country they want and during this period of time students acquire new skills and consequently evolve from a personal, academic and professional point of view. However, even if the European Union via the European commission managed to put one efficient program to respond the challenges it is facing some problems are remaining as the lack of recognition of the staff mobility or the fact that some students do not authorise them to take part to the program because of financial problems. That's why it can be said that the youth mobility is hugely supported by the European Union and each of its member states from a political as financial point of view and numerous good practices have been set to make the mobility process easier but significant progress remain to be done about the staff and trainee mobility as well as the financing helps to achieve definitely the European aims. The regulatory role of cyanobacterial High light inducible proteins

During the project two Hlip proteins (HliC and HliD) were isolated from the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803; either as a pure oligomer (HliC protein) or as a small complex with a putative Photosystem II assembly factor Ycf39 (HliD protein). Pigments bound to purified Hlips were analyzed by state-of-art spectroscopic techniques to elucidate the mechanism of thermal energy dissipation. In addition, this work explained the mechanism of how the HliC protein regulates the interaction between chlorophyll synthase enzyme and the Ycf39 protein. This conceptually new mechanism is based on the replacement of HliD dimers in chlorophyll synthase complexes by stress-induced HliD-HliC heterodimers, which changes the affinity of Ycf39 towards chlorophyll synthase.
