Sensory abilities in food localization in four species of African mole-rats with diverse social organization
VITÁMVÁS, Miloš
2013 - anglický
Until recently, it was assumed that African mole-rats search for food randomly, as it is in concordance with Aridity food distribution hypothesis. However, recent studies indicate that some subterranean rodent species including mole-rats could be able to use plant chemicals (kairomones) for food localization. In my master thesis I conducted a battery of experiments on four mole-rat species to prove, that these species also posses the ability of kairomone guided foraging independently of their social organization. Vliv endokrinních disruptorů na funkčnost spermií a změny ve steroidogenezi transkriptomik u ryb
HATEF, Azadeh

In the present study, both in vitro and in vivo experiments were performed to investigate modes of action of selected EDCs including mercury chloride (HgCl2), bisphenol A (BPA), vinclozolin (VZ) and Di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalate (DEHP) on male reproductive physiology in fish. Results obtained from in vitro studies showed that EDCs decrease sperm motility via disruption in energetics and damage to spermatozoa; however the effective doses are higher than reported in the environmentally relevant concentrations. In contrast, in vivo studies showed adverse effects of BPA, VZ, and DEHP on sperm quality at environmentally relevant concentrations. Decrease in sperm quality is associated with disruption in testicular steroidogenesis, particularly inhibition of androgens. Only BPA induced vitellogenin production, associated with increase in transcripts of estrogen receptor, androgen receptor and cytochrome P450 mRNA at the high dose approaching environmental level. Inhibition of androgen production is due to disruption in transfer of cholesterol into the steroidogenesis pathway, because transcript of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein mRNA was decreased. In addition, BPA acts through sex steroid-mediated mechanism while DEHP mode of action is sex-steroid independent mechanism. Long-term changes in numbers and distribution of wintering waterbirds in the Czech Republic, 1966 - 2008
POLÁKOVÁ, Simona
2012 - anglický
This paper assessed long-term trends in the numbers and distribution of the 26 most abundant wintering waterbird species in the Czech Republic. Data were based on International Waterbird Census data, that started in our country in 1966. Climatic variables and all-european trends were taken in account. Red-backed Shrikes (Lanius collurio) adjust the mobbing intensity, but not mobbing frequency, by assessing the potential threat to themselves from different predators
NĚMEC, Michal
2013 - anglický
We tested ability to adjust nest defence in the red-backed shrike. We presented dummies of three species of adult bird predators (sparrowhawk, kestrel, and long-eared owl; differing in the potential danger for the defending birds), plus two species of nest predators (jay and magpie; differing in the proportion of nestlings of small passerines in their diets). A dummy pigeon was used as the control. Shrikes regularly attacked all of the dummies tested, with the exception of the magpie and pigeon. Regulation of cellular metabolism by the Notch receptor signalling pathway
SLANINOVÁ, Věra
2012 - anglický
Seven genes involved in metabolism were tested as direct targets of the Notch signalling pathway. For each gene the occupancy of its enhancers by Su(H), its transcriptional response to Notch pathway and its biological functionality was verified in vitro and in vivo. Klíčová slova: Notch singalling pathway; metabolism; Warburg effect; regulation of metabolism; target genes Plné texty jsou dostupné v digitálním repozitáři JČU.

Point mutations found in human breast cancer samples introduced into the Drosophila dco gene affect the Drosophila haematopoiesis. I described different haematopoietic phenotypes in such mutants and tested their connection with the Toll and the JAK/STAT signalling pathways.
