2015 - English Firstly, the thesis focuses on the overall context of contemporary Anglo-American post-colonial literature and in a brief enumeration it covers British and American writers from various ethnic groups, whose novels are currently the most widely read (Zadie Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Salman Rushdie in Britain, Jhumpa Lahiri, Amy Tan, Sandra Cisneros, Sherman Alexie in the USA). The core of this thesis is the analysis of Zadie Smith's novel White Teeth, its language and the overall multicultural context. The thesis includes the thematic aspects of the novel White Teeth (mixed marriages, skin colour, nurture of children from mixed families and different ethnic groups) and it focuses on the language and situational humour within the novel White Teeth. Práce se nejprve soustředí na celkový kontext současné angloamerické postkoloniální literatury a ve stručném výčtu se zaměří na britské a americké autory z různých etnických skupin, jejichž próza je v současné době nejčtenější (Zadie Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Salman Rushdie v Británii, Jhumpa Lahiri, Amy Tan, Sandra Cisneros, Sherman Alexie v USA). Jádrem práce bude rozbor díla Zadie Smith White Teeth (Bílé Zuby) po jazykové stránce a v celkovém multikulturním kontextu. Práce zahrne tematické aspekty románu Bílé Zuby (smíšená manželství, barva pleti, výchova dětí ve smíšených rodinách a různých etnických skupinách) a zaměří se na jazykový a situační humor provázející dílo autorky. DEVELOPING YOUR OWN TEACHING STYLE: TEACHING ENGLISH TO CZECH L2 LEARNERS

2016 - English This bachelor's thesis seeks to explain why it is necessary to develop your own style of teaching English instead of following a prescribed methodology. It provides the reader with a presentation of the key factors that affect this development, and discusses the steps a teacher needs to take or issues he/she should think about carefully in order to make the lesson as effective as possible. The thesis is divided into two parts. Part One introduces the topic of the development of an individual language teaching style, based on the reference books. Part Two is represented by a field-study that consists of an analysis of questionnaires completed by three current English language teaching professionals expressing their opinions and personal approaches to teaching in the Czech school environment. The thesis concludes with the summary of the key factors that need to be considered when developing an individual teaching style. Cílem této bakalářské práce je vysvětlit, proč je pro učitele anglického jazyka nezbytné rozvíjet vlastní styl vyučování namísto toho, aby se řídili pouze předepsanou či doporučenou metodikou. Čtenáři práce předkládá přehled nejdůležitějších faktorů, jenž rozvoj vlastního stylu vyučování ovlivňují. Popsána je také spojitost těchto faktorů s kroky, které by měl učitel promyslet, aby byla výuka co možná nejefektivnější. Bakalářská práce je rozdělena do dvou částí, z nichž první, na základě odborné literatury, představuje téma rozvoje jazykově zaměřeného vyučovacího stylu. Druhou část představuje shrnutí zjištění praktického výzkumu malého rozsahu. Podstatou výzkumu bylo dotazníkové šetření zaměřené na získání informací o rozvoji individuálního stylu vyučování v prostředí českých škol. Šetření se zúčastnili celkem tři zkušení, středoškolští učitelé anglického jazyka. Jejich slovní odpovědi a osobní zkušenosti byly analyzovány na pozadí poznatků z teorie vyučování, které byly představeny v úvodní části práce. Odpovědi přinesly praktický vhled do vybrané problematiky, a vytvořily tak paralelu mezi teoreticky zaměřenou částí práce a reálnou výukovou praxí. Práce je následně zakončena shrnutím problematiky a zaujetím vlastního stanoviska. The aim of the thesis is to depict the postmodern characteristics and features presented in the novel and to describe their significance. The thesis is focused on the analysis and the interpretation of the chosen chapters, themes and motifs with the intention to examine and to understand more profoundly the text according to the postmodern theory. Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá knihou anglického spisovatele 20. století, Juliana Barnese, Flaubertův papoušek, z hlediska postmoderny. Cílem práce je poukázat na postmoderní rysy a charakteristiky přítomné v románu a jejich význam. 2016 - English The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe the theme of reincarnation and predation in David Mitchell´s Cloud Atlas. The novel consists of six parts which are interconnected by the aforementioned ideas. Cloud Atlas bears features of a historical novel and science fiction. The task of the thesis will be to describe the form and the connection among the novels. The secondary task of the thesis will be to describe how Mitchell deals with the theme of the universality of human experience and to prove the possible influence of eastern philosophies over the work. Cílem této bakalářské práce je popsat a zpracovat téma reinkarnace a predace v komplexním díle Atlas mraků autora D. Mitchella. Dílo britského spisovatele se skládá ze šesti novel, které jsou vzájemně ideově propojeny výše zmíněnými tématy. Román vykazuje rysy historického románu a zároveň žánru science fiction. Sekundárním cílem této bakalářské práce bude zamyšlení se nad otázkou, zda Mitchellův román spadá či nespadá do zmíněných kategorií. A Comparison between Science Fiction Works of Arthur C. Clarke and Douglas Adams's Parody of the Genre

2017 - English The first purpose of this paper is to define the term of science fiction genre, using literature specialized in the subject and later analyse the theoretical concept of parody in literature. The second part of the paper will consist of brief biographies of both authors (Arthur C. Clarke and Douglas Adams) and an analysis of Clarke's novel series Space Odyssey. The purpose of this paper is a comparison of Clarke's legendary series with Adams' parody of the genre The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by identifying main characters, motifs and symbols, and subsequently compare the settings of both series, character motivations and narrative strategies. Úkolem práce je nejprve definovat žánr science fiction na základě odborné literatury a dále rozebrat obecně literárně teoretický pojem parodie. Součástí práce budou stručné životopisy obou autorů (Arthur C. Clarke a Douglas Adams) a analýza Clarkovy série románů Vesmírná Odysea. Cílem práce je srovnání Clarkovy legendární série a Adamsovy parodie žánru Stopařův průvodce Galaxií, přičemž v každé sérii práce vytyčí hlavní postavy, motivy a symboly a následně porovná prostředí obou sérií, motivaci hrdinů, narativní strategii a vypravěčský styl. 2017 - English This thesis discusses the role of trees in agricultural landscape with a focus on the impact on the environment and on sustainability. First, general problems of current agriculture, and its effects on the components of the environment, are described. Then, I give a brief historical context of deforestation in the development of agricultural landscape is captioned. The main focus of the thesis is to explain the effect of various tree functions on the components of agricultural landscape. The effects of trees on atmosphere, hydrology, biology and soil are also described. Furthermore, I explain the elements of non-forest woody vegetation, which can be found in agricultural landscape, are described. The final part of the thesis evaluates the various functions of trees according to the number of references, presented in literature in the form of tables and graphs. Bakalářská práce se zabývá úlohou stromů v zemědělské krajině se zaměřením na jejich dopad na životní prostředí a udržitelnost. Nejprve je popsána obecná problematika dnešního zemědělství a jeho efekt na složky životního prostředí. Dále je popsán stručný historický kontext odlesňování v utváření zemědělské krajiny. Hlavní částí práce je popis vlivu jednotlivých funkcí stromů na složky zemědělské krajiny. Účinky stromů na atmosféru, hydrologii, biologii a půdu jsou popsány. Dále jsou popsány prvky nelesní dřevinné vegetace nacházející se v zemědělské krajině. Poslední část práce vyhodnocuje jednotlivé funkce stromů podle četnosti zmínek v použité literatuře a to ve formě tabulek a grafů. The Effect of Temperature on Nitrogen Mineralization in Spruce Forest Soils

2017 - English The effect of temperature on gross nitrogen mineralization was studied in soils of research site at the Gärdsjön Lake (Sweden) using the 15N pool dilution technique at four temperatures (5, 10, 15, 25°C). Nitrogen mineralization rates in organic and mineral horizons of nitrogen loaded soils were compared to rates in soils with natural nitrogen deposition and an eventual effect of chronic increased nitrogen deposition was examined. Vliv teploty na hrubou mineralizaci dusíku byl stanoven pomocí izotopové zřeďovací techniky v půdách odebraných v povodí jezera Gärdsjön (Švédsko) při teplotách 5, 10, 15 a 25°C. Rychlost mineralizace dusíku v organických a minerálních půdních horizontech byla porovnána při různých teplotách a vliv zvýšené (simulované) depozice dusíku na rychlost mineralizace byl zkoumán.
