Decentralized energy policy in a selected EU country

The main aim of the thesis is to analysis the past fifty years of energy policy in Denmark to gain insight on how Denmark has become one of the European leaders in decarbonising its economy and developing renewable energy resources. A thorough review of academic articles, government and international institutional reports, and books on decentralised energy and climate change were essential for the research required for this work and make up the literature review section. The analysis and results section is divided into three parts that cover the three phases of the Danish energy transition and analyses the different government policies implemented during the different stages and how well they were in achieving the government's goals. - Phase one: Adding renewable energy production into energy system. - Phase two: Seeking solutions to the intermittency of renewable energy technologies when renewable energy production is between 40-50%. - Phase three: Seeking storage solutions in an 100% renewable energy system. The research led to some important insights that may be useful for other states seeking to decarbonise their economies within their own contexts and some policy recommendations conclude the paper. Hlavním cílem práce je analyzovat posledních padesát let energetické politiky v Dánsku a získat představu o tom, jak se Dánsko stalo jedním z evropských lídrů v dekarbonizaci ekonomiky a rozvoji obnovitelných zdrojů energie. Práce má rešeršní povahu a vychází z širokého přehledu akademických článků a knih o decentralizované výrobě energie a změně klimatu a zpráv vládních a mezinárodních organizací. Část věnovaná analýze a výsledkům je rozdělena do tří částí, které pokrývají tři fáze dánské energetické transformace a analyzují různé vládní politiky prováděné v těchto fázích. - První fáze: Prvotní nárůst výroby energie z obnovitelných zdrojů do energetického systému. - Fáze druhá: Hledání řešení nestability dodávek obnovitelných zdrojů energie, když je výroba energie z obnovitelných zdrojů mezi 40 a 50 %. - Třetí fáze: Hledání řešení pro ukládání v systému 100 % obnovitelné energie. Výzkum vedl k některým důležitým zjištěním, které jsou užitečné pro další státy, jež se snaží dekarbonizovat své ekonomiky. Práce je uzavřena vybranými politickými doporučeními.

Applying CA to the Understanding of How Interactional Teaching Strategies Contribute to the Development of Communicative Competence: A Case Study of Online English Lessons Delivered to a Group of Four Mature Students

Maintaining relationships with students is one of the most important tasks for a teacher. If the relationship is well-built and steady, the teacher can start focusing on the way of managing classroom interaction. In this regard, there is no single universal conclusion, therefore this thesis will aim to map the process of interaction itself. The study focuses mainly on the parts of sessions in which there occurred the successful development of language skills in the foreign language as well as the development of fluency in the spoken language. The research takes the form of a case study of a group of four students of English as a foreign language. All of them were more than fifty years old. Each student had not only a different level of language skills but also different motivations for studying English-it was a small heterogenous group of adult learners. The teaching process was done fully in the online environment during the Covid-19 pandemic. 50 data samples were gathered from 11 sessions, each spanning approximately 60-90 minutes. These became the subject of analysis and interpretation. Data analysis was done using the conversational analysis methodology, specifically conversational analysis for second language acquisition (CA-for-SLA). Via this methodology, the process of data collection was done through audio recordings. Parts of them were transcribed word-by-word, using a simplified transcription system. The transcripts were further studied and analysed to capture interactional strategies used by a teacher during the language acquisition process through which developed interactional competence was shown, and how this competence contributed to the development of learners' communicative competence. Zvládnout vztah se svými studenty je jedním z nejdůležitějších úkolů učitele. Pokud je vztah mezi ním a studenty dobře vybudován a stabilně nastaven, může se učitel dále soustředit na to, jakým způsobem řídit interakci ve třídě. V tomto ohledu však nelze dospět k jednomu univerzálnímu závěru, proto cílem práce bylo zmapování samotného průběhu interakce. Studie je zaměřena hlavně na takové části hodin, kdy vyučující usilovala o obecný rozvoj nejen řečových dovedností v cizím jazyce, ale i plynulosti mluveného projevu. Zkoumání proběhlo v rámci případové studie provedené na čtyřčlenné skupině studentů angličtiny jakožto cizího jazyka. Všichni byli ve věku 50+ a lišili se nejen úrovní jazyka, ale i motivací pro studium; jednalo se o malou heterogenní skupinu dospělých studentů. Výuka probíhala kompletně v online prostředí v období pandemie Covid-19. Z jedenácti výukových hodin o přibližné délce 60-90 minut bylo shromážděno 50 vzorků dat, které byly podrobeny rozboru a interpretaci. Analýza dat byla provedena za pomoci metodologie konverzační analýzy, konkrétně konverzační analýzy pro výuku cizího jazyka (CA-for-SLA). Prostřednictvím této metodologie došlo k samotnému sběru dat skrze audionahrávky, jejichž části pak byly doslovně přepsány za použití zjednodušeného transkripčního systému. Přepisy byly dále zkoumány a rozebírány za účelem zachycení interakčních strategií užívaných učitelem v rámci procesu výuky cizího jazyka, skrze něž se projevovala jeho rozvinutá interakční kompetence přispívající k rozvoji komunikační kompetence studentů.

Namelessness in the Works of George R. R. Martin and Ursula Le Guin

The thesis explores the significance and implications of namelessness in fantasy literature on the example of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin and the Earthsea series by Ursula Le Guin. The literary use of namelessness serves to develop characters, examine power structures, and challenge traditional notions of identity and belonging. The author uses various theoretical perspectives, including those of Josef Campbell, Carl Jung, Michel Foucault, Gérard Genette, Jane Bliss, and Lao Tzu to analyze the phenomenon. By drawing on these diverse perspectives and applying different methods of analysis, the thesis highlights the interdisciplinary nature of the study, drawing from theories in history, mythology, psychology, philosophy, and literary criticism. Práce zkoumá význam a důsledky bezejmennosti v fantasy literatuře na příkladu série Píseň ledu a ohně od George R. R. Martina a série Zeměmoří od Ursuly K. Le Guinové. Literární použití bezejmennosti slouží k rozvoji postav, zkoumání struktur moci a výzvě tradičním představám o identitě a přináležitosti. Autorka využívá různé teoretické perspektivy, včetně těch Josefa Campbella, Carla Gustava Junga, Michela Foucaulta, Gérarda Genetta, Jane Blissové a Lao Tzua, aby tento fenomén analyzovala. Tím, že čerpá z těchto různorodých perspektiv a aplikuje různé metody analýzy, práce zdůrazňuje interdisciplinární povahu studie, vycházející z teorií v dějepisu, mytologii, psychologii, filosofii a literární kritice.

This Diploma thesis studies the ability of Czech users of English to distinguish stress-related pronunciation aspects of British and American English, and to utilize this in their own speech. In the first part, therefore, I identify and describe the most prominent differences in the two regional standards. In the second part, after working with Czech participants using a dialogue, a prepared text and questionnaires about recordings of native British and American speakers, I present findings on the variables explored. I also study the general awareness in Czech users of English of the stress-related pronunciation differences between British and American English by means of a questionnaire sent to randomly chosen Czech natives. The conclusions of this thesis serve as practical recommendations for the teaching of English pronunciation in Czech schools, and suggest possible ways of broadening the thesis. Diplomová práce se zabývá schopností českých uživatelů angličtiny rozpoznávat rozdíly v přízvuku britské a americké angličtiny a tím, do jaké míry se tato jejich schopnost promítá do jejich vlastní výslovnosti. V první části práce tedy určuji a popisuji hlavní odlišnosti v umístění přízvuku a jeho vlivu na výslovnost v obou těchto regionálních standardů. Ve druhé části jsou nejprve shromážděna data získaná od účastníků výzkumu prostřednictvím rozhovoru, nahrávky čtení krátkého textu obsahujícího zkoumané jevy, a dotazníku k nahrávkám rodilých mluvčích užívajících výše zmíněné standardy. Tato data jsou následně kvantitativně vyhodnocena. Dotazník ohledně rozdílů ve výslovnosti přízvuku mezi britskou a americkou angličtinou také posílám náhodně vybranému vzorku Čechů a zkoumám míru jejich znalosti daného jevu. Závěrem práce je praktické doporučení pro výuku výslovnosti angličtiny v České republice a uvedení možností dalšího rozšíření práce.

This Diploma thesis is concerned with a translation of one of the stories written by an author Fay Weldon from the book Nothing to Wear, Nowhere to Hide (2002). The theoretical part aims to introduce the topic of a translation with its forms, analyze the process of translator's work using models of translation based on theories from several important linguists and apply the knowledge in the practical part on one of the short stories with the following commentary. Also, it aims to develop the skills acquainted during the study of translation and develop knowledge in literary translation. Diplomová práce je zaměřena na překlad jednoho z krátkých příběhů spisovatelky Fay Weldon ze sbírky Nothing to Wear, Nowhere to Hide (2002). Teoretická část práce je věnována seznámení s tématem překladu a jeho podobami a také rozboru procesů překladatelské práce s přihlédnutím k modelům a teoriím významných lingvistů. Tyto znalosti jsou následně uplatněny v praktické části práce, jejíž cílem je vlastní překlad příběhu s následným komentářem. Cílem je mimo jiné využít znalosti získané během studia překladatelství a prohloubit dovednosti v oblasti překladu literatury.

The effect of Ixodes ricinus tick serpin on the cytotoxic function of natural killer cells

The aim of my thesis was the functional characterization of IRS-4 from Ixodes Ricinus. Particularly the effect of IRS-4 on cytotoxic activity of NK cells was analysed. First, the optimization of calcein-AM release method, which was used for this analysis, was performed. Afterwards, the method was used for the measurement of the cytotoxic activity of NK cells. Moreover, the effect of tick serpin on the activation of NK cells by measuring the cytokine production IFN- was examined. The aim of this thesis was to determine the functions of subgenomic flaviviral RNA (sfRNA) in host cells. In more detail, sfRNAs derived from dengue virus, zika virus and tickborne encephalitis virus were studied. The housing market in Ukraine

The purpose of this thesis was to take a deeper look into the Ukrainian housing market, understand its problems and find or synthesize possible solutions. My primary motivation for writing this paper is a period in my life when my father bought me an apartment in Kyiv and I, having no experience dealing with Ukrainian housing market bureaucracy and corruption, had to do all the paperwork to become a legal owner of the property. I failed multiple times before I succeeded and experienced a lot of issues, I researched in this paper first hand. Due to the reasons explained in the paper, obtaining primary data about the Ukrainian housing market is virtually Impossible, therefore the main sources for this thesis were theoretical works of scientists and researchers and secondary statistics. In the process of research, it was discovered that some problems undermining the development of the housing market in Ukraine are more trivial and easily solvable than it was hypothesized. However, some of the problems turned out to be deep-seated and systemic. This thesis definitely shows that even though the problems of the Housing market in Ukraine are serious and very damaging, there are possible solutions that can be effective in solving or at least mitigating those issues. The purpose of this thesis was to take a deeper look into the Ukrainian housing market, understand its problems and find or synthesize possible solutions. Blood glucose concentration in Barn Swallow (\kur{Hirundo rustica}): sources of variability and association with fitness

Glucose is an important fuel for intense activities of short duration, but in high concentration is reputed to be tissue-damaging at least in mammals. In birds, blood glucose concentration is naturally considerably higher than in other vertebrates of similar body mass. In this thesis, we focused on blood glucose concentration in the wild populations of the Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica). Firstly, we investigated the level of repeatability of blood glucose concentration to find out if this trait is individual-specific and thus, it is subject to selection. Secondly, we examined which environmental and physiological variables explain variation in blood glucose level. Thirdly, we tested association of blood glucose level with fitness related traits, namely individual body mass and lifespan. Glukóza je jedním z hlavních zdrojů energie cirkulující v krvi obratlovců, který je využívaný pro krátkodobé intenzivní aktivity. Nicméně je známé, že v nadměrných koncentracích způsobuje u savců poškození tkání. U ptáků je koncentrace krevní glukózy výrazně vyšší než u ostatních skupin obratlovců srovnatelné velikosti. V této práci jsme se zaměřili na hladinu krevní glukózy u vlaštovky obecné (Hirundo rustica). V první kroku jsme se zabývali otázkou, jestli je hladina glukózy opakovatelným znakem a lze ji proto považovat za individuální znak, který může podléhat selekci. Následně jsme se pokoušeli identifikovat možné zdroje variability pocházející jak z vnějších, tak i vnitřních příčin. Tato práce se také zabývá souvislostí krevní glukózy s kondicí, konkrétně individuální hmotností a délkou dožití.
