NMR Metabolomics Study of the Association between Pancreatic Cancer and Diabetes Mellrtus.

In our study, 1H NMR metabolomics was employed to plasma samples of pancreatic cancer patients, individuals with long-term diabetes mellitus type 2 (lasting more than 5 years) and healthy controls. The NMR analyses were followed by establishing a statistical model based on principal component analysis and discriminant analysis. The aim was to discover differences between these groups and to define a potential biomarker panel. The statistical evaluation of metabolomics-based profiles provided high values of sensitivity and specificity. Subsequently, plasma samples of the risk group, specifically patients with recently diagnosed diabetes mellitus with a duration of <3 years (possible T3cDM), were analysed and the possibility of PC development was predicted. The achieved results showed strong potential of 1H NMR metabolomics to establish a biomarker panel that would facilitate the early diagnosis of PC and the possibility identify diabetic individuals, who are at risk of developing PC. The effect of the various wetting procedure on the membrane performance was studied [1]. Spraying is clearly more efficient than spreading water on the top of the membrane with a brush and results in higher methane purity. Spraying ensures a more uniform distribution of the water on the skin layer of the membrane, leading to much higher CO2 permeation through the membrane and higher CH4 content in the retentate stream. The trend of reduction of landfilling can lead, especially in areas with low population density, to the need to build new waste-to-energy capacities in the form of small units. However, flue gas treatment in small scale has to be sufficiently simple to decrease capital costs and allow the construction of such facilities. For that reason, the possibility of one-step dry flue gas treatment at compromise conditions was investigated as well as the limitation of flue gas composition.\n\n Trend omezování skládkování může vést, například v oblastech nízkou hustotou zalidnění, k nutnosti vzniku malých zařízení na energetické využití odpadu. V případě malých zařízení je však nutné, aby byl systém čištění spalin dostatečně jednoduchý a náklady na něj nebránily vzniku takových zařízení. Proto byla zkoumána možnost suchého jednokrokového čištění spalin a limitace vycházející ze složení spalin a kompromisních podmínek čištění. Biochar Preparation in Quality of Activated Carbon via Pyrolysis of Hemp Waste

The paper describes the preparation of adsorbents with the properties of activated carbon from biomass waste. Prime feedstock are hemp stems and a referential material is hardwood. The preparation is divided in two phases. The first phase includes pyrolysis in the temperature range 450-850 °C in the horizontal furnace and in the second phase the pyrolysed material is activated with steam and carbon dioxide in a vertical reactor. Finally, biochar was analyzed and relevant properties including BET surface and pore size distribution were determined to appoint suitable operational conditions for the biochar production in quality of activated carbon.\n Příspěvek pojednává o přípravě adsorpčních materiálů na bázi aktivního uhlí z odpadní biomasy. Primární surovinou je pazdeří z technického konopí a refernčním materiálem je tvrdé dřevo. Jedná se o dvoustupňovou přípravu, kdy v první fázi dochází k pyrolýze v teplotním intervalu 450-850 °C v horizontální peci a v druhé fázi dochází k aktivaci vodní parou a oxidem uhličitým ve vertikálním reaktoru. U biocharu byly stanoveny relevantní materiálové vlastnosti mj. BET povrch a distribuce velikosti pórů s cílem nalézt nejvhodnější provozní podmínky pro výrobu biocharu v kvalitě aktivního uhlí. Advanced Treatment Methods for Incineration Bottom Ash.

Bottom ash is main solid residue from waste-to-energy. Recent development and trends change the approach to IBA, it is no longer regarded as unwanted waste from WtE plant but can be considered a valuable secondary source for several materials like ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Mineral residue after metal separation can be used in construction industry, e.g. as aggregates substitute for bound or unbound applications such as subbase layer for road construction. The paper summarizes results of recent activities for bottom ash utilization in WtE plant in Prague within last few years. Hlavní pevný výstup z energetického využití odpadů je škvára. Náhled na škváru jako na nežádoucí odpad se v poslední době změnil i díky přechodu na cirkulární ekonomiku, neboť škvára obsahuje velké množství železných a neželezných kovů. Škvára po separaci kovů lze úspěšně využít jako náhradu primárních surovin v různých stavebních aplikacích. NMR Aerosolomics as a Tool to Distinguish Various Types of Aerosol Samples.

In the recent study, the summer and winter aerosol samples were analyzed using NMR aerosolomics approach. The samples were collected in Prague-Suchdol during summer 2008 and winter 2009 in two different particle size fractions - PM2.5 and PM 10. Around 50 compounds were identified in each aerosol spectrum owing to the comprehensive library. The profile of 86 identified compounds, which were identified in the samples altogether, served as an input data for statistical analysis. Multivariate statistical analysis clearly discriminates the two groups studied. Furthermore, it is possible to determine the most significant compounds.
