LPE Growth of III-V Semiconductors from rare-earth Treated Melts
Grym, Jan; Procházková, Olga; Zavadil, Jiří; Žďánský, Karel
2008 - English
We focus on the characterization of InP and InGaAsP layers prepared by liquid phase epitaxy with rare-earth admixtures. We applied photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), capacitance-voltage measurements, and secondary ion mass spectroscopy in order to explain: (i) the gettering effect and conductivity crossover of InP layers for Pr treated samples, (ii) narrowing of the PL and elecroluminescent spectra of the active InGaAsP region of a double-heterostructure LED. Keywords: semiconductor technology; rare earth elements; III-V semiconductors Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Measurement of electrical and mechanical oscillations of yeast cells membrane in acoustic frequency range
Jelínek, František; Pokorný, Jiří; Vaniš, Jan; Hašek, Jiří; Šimša, Jan
2008 - English
The paper describes the measurement of electric activity of yeast cells at frequencies around 1 kHz and of mechanical vibrations of cell membrane. Synchronized and non-synchronized tubulin mutants of yeast cells were measured. The paper includes a description of the laboratory equipment with a platinum wire point sensor and a spectrum analyzer. Obtained results are in good agreement with AFM findings. Keywords: Cellular Biophysics; Electromagnetic Fields Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Fiberisation of access networks - update
Kuchar, Anton; Hrstka, J.
2008 - Czech
Up-to-date information on the progress in implementation of optical access networks abroad and in the Czech Republic is given. Special attention is given to the situation in Europe, progress in this area in France, where mass implementation of optical fibres in access network has already begun, a is described in detail. A list of companies providing access to broadband networks over optical fibre links in the CR is given and the main obstacles to accelerate this process are identified. Keywords: optical communication; telecommunication networks Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Optics and its competitors in access networks
Kuchar, Anton
2008 - Czech
Various technology options of telecommunications access networks are discussed: metallic, optical fibre and wireless. They are compared according to their achievable technical parameters, capital (CAPEX) and operational expenses (OPEX), legislative constraints and prospects for further development. Market share of the major access technologies in Japan, Norway, Ireland and the Czech Republic are given V práci jsou diskutovány různé technologické varianty přístupových sítí: metalické, optické a bezdrátové. Growth of InP crystals for radiation detectors and other application
Pekárek, Ladislav; Yatskiv, Roman
2008 - English
Bulk InP single crystals were grown by Czochralski method. Various dopants were added to the melt to obtain single crystals suitable for radiation detectors and other application. The intentionally doped of InP crystals were characterized by measurements of resistivity and Hall coefficient. Prototype detectors were prepared and evaluated by spectral detection of alpha particles and x-rays. Keywords: crystal growth; radiation detector; InP Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Application of speech recognition and rhyme tests for assessement of Czech speech processing systems
Vích, Robert; Nouza, Jan
2008 - English
Speech intelligibility is the most important parameter of speech quality. In the contribution a new objective intelligibility assessment of speech processing algorithms, e.g., speech coding, synthesis, enhancement, conversion, is proposed. It is based on automatic speech recognition of rhyme tests. The idea is illustrated by comparison with listening evaluation of Czech rhyme tests and is applied for intelligibility assessment of Czech text-to-speech system and voice conversion. Keywords: speech processing; speech synthesis; speech recognition Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Ultra low frequency yeast cells electric activity
Cifra, Michal; Pokorný, Jiří; Jelínek, František; Hašek, Jiří; Šimša, Jan
2008 - English
This paper presents results from the measurement of the electrical activity cold sensitive beta-tubulin mutant tub2-401 of yeast cells in frequency region 0.4 - 1.6 kHz. 25 measurements of both synchronized and nonsynchronized cells show that the synchronized cells have higher electrical activity what corresponds to the findings of Pohl et al. Mechanical oscillations of electrically polar structures in cell may give rise to electric oscillations we measured.
